ottery
I have posted this thread so you can vent about people saying bad things about our furry children. I will start it off with a quote from a pro-life blog.
Quote:
On my way to work, I heard a ad on the radio for a new PetSmart location in my area. "For all you pet parents..." Ugh!! I knew I had to blog about that. Then, it got worse. A high school friend who just got married posted some pictures on Facebook. 31 different pictures of the dog that she and her new husband just got. Babies don't even get that much attention! It's sick!!!
Why are slobbery, shedding, smelly DOGS the new baby? And, why on earth do they now have health insurance for pets? There was a heart-throbbing-- or should I say gut-wrenching-- article in Parade Magazine in the newspaper on Sunday about the expense of heath care for pets. My goodness. It's a dog!
When I grow up, I want 31 children, not 31 pictures of a dog. Seriously, who could you be more proud of-- a child that will learn to be potty trained or a pet that you have to be popper scooper for for the next 15 years.. 3 times a day? Would you rather a child who could bring home a proud report card or a dog that will chew your couch to pieces when you're at work for the day? Would you rather have a child who can grow to genuinely love and admire you or a dog that doesn't even know you're speaking English to it?
When I read that the first thing that came to mind was the guy who has that pronatal website. However, the writer of the quote you posted is slightly more sane, which isn't saying much, but is still saying something.
Really, I don't understand how people like that blogger can say, "It's only a dog! Who cares?" Quite a few years ago my cat had to get surgery after he got injured. If we didn't take him to the vet he would have died. Would it have been easier to just have him put down because he's "only a cat"? Sure, but when someone decides to take care of a pet medical care is something that should be expected. They're not stuffed animals that can be thrown out when something goes wrong; they're living, breathing animals that will need attention and care. And if people don't agree then they can keep quiet and go back to raising their children while pet owners who love their pets can continue to care for them properly.
As for bad thing said about pets, I heard my grandmother and her sister talking about how pets can get MRIs, which they both are against considering there are long waits for humans who need them. That was really bothering because from what I've read about it the center was opened specifically for pets. It's not like they're using MRI centers for humans and taking away from people. If this pet center wasn't opened then nothing would have changed, so this is simply another way to diagnose what's wrong with an animal.
Yuck. I read that yesterday and am now really glad I stopped liking that comic strip. I love how he writes that he knew that Lilah would get married, pregnant, and then miscarry as soon as she was introduced. A female character that isn't just a love interest and isn't subject to tons of stereotypes? Unheard of.
