This blog is written as a question to atheist/agnostics, but read it anyway, regardless of your religion.
If right now, in the blink of an eye, you had the power to make all theists wake up, would you, knowing well what it would mean?
Would you take away the one thing some people look to for comfort?
Would you take away the thing that helps them deal with their insecurities?
Would you stop them from not being afraid of death?
Would you make them feel alone by depriving them of the feeling that a god is watching over them?
Would you take away the false (but existing) meaning they think their lives have?
Would you bring back the nagging curiosity that died when they started believing in religion?
Would you sadden them by taking away all of that?
I've thought on and off about this question over time, but talking to a very good jesus-believing friend of mind tonight revived the argument in my head. I realized that, if I tried enough, I just might, might might might*, be able to cause her to doubt or at least consider her being wrong (she prays to jesus). And I also know that, if she did that, well, what I mentioned above.
