I'm sure Hypno will like the title of this one and pick up the reference. ^_^'
BlueLaguna.net - Wandering Ghosts
----------------------------------------

If ghosts wander and haunt places all over the world, then surely there must be a cross over point between the material world and the spiritual world. Perhaps it's some kind of level plane with ours, so that Heaven and Hell are still above and below in terms of higher and lower planes.
In my opinion, I follow the Casper theory to some degree. That spirits who have not moved on to Heaven or Hell depending on how they've lived their lives have some kind of unfinished business/something they haven't come to terms with or cannot accept. The other way I can still see them clinging to this world is if they're either not yet good enough for Heaven or bad enough for Hell. There's two ways of thinking about the existence of ghosts to begin with.
FACT: The Tower of London is said to be the most haunted building in the world.

Oh, me likes the title and, me also likes you for starting the thread! wink wink
I agree with Mel about her view on ghosts. I also think the Casper movie got it right when it comes to the whole unfinished business kind of thing. I also loved to see Dan Aykroid with his Ghostbuster costume in that one, it was hilarious! rofl
I think I heard about the Tower of London somewhere but I don't remember the details. Should we post more about it here or any other ghost stories then? Cuz I got one! It's about the Kerrigan castle in Moycullen, Ireland. The story creeped me out when I was 16 years old. I did a search for it a few months ago and I couldn't find anything on it though... neutral

Ghosts are spirits that have failed to move on for the reasons Mel stated above. In order for them to interact with us, they need to use an outside energy source like electrical fields or pure human energy, depending on how strong they are to begin with. They take the warmth/energy out of the air in order to materialize, which is why places go cold or you feel as though winter came a tad bit early in the wrong region.
There are four types of hauntings with ghosts or their energies:
Intelligent/Traditional, which is when they know you are there and interact with you. They are able to move around freely and are responsible for many things that go "bump" in the night.
Residual, which is when a very strong, traumatic memory/event has been etched on an area and it reoccurs over and over again without interaction by anyone or anything. The energy left by the person/people is all that remains.
Poltergeist, which is usually a spirit or created energy that haunts one person, mostly a teenage female, but can haunt others as well. Sometimes there are several spirits that decide to clan together and cause chaos, but their appearances and disappearances are too random.
The most dangerous of them all, being Demonic, are as bad as you can get. They are inhuman and can take forms of anything, including half man half beast (picture a centaur to get an image of what they might look like). Demons are not afraid to show their power and will haunt a person up until they can possess them.
I always watch "Ghost Hunters" because I love their work. That is where a lot of my information comes from, aside from other sources.

Interesting!
ED, what category then would you put my experience at home in?
Sometimes I get the feeling that something or someone is watching me after my parents have gone to bed. The sensation stems from the area by the porch door that connects to the lounge in our bungalow. When it's there, I walk out of my room or out of the kitchen (there's no hallway), and my attention becomes fixed on that area.
It used to make me SO uncomfortable that I would dart back into my room as soon as possible. However, ever since my faith grew considerably I am not as bothered about it as I was. It still makes me feel uncomfortable, but I can usually deal with it now. It only ever happens after my parents have gone to bed though. The feeling I get extends throughout the lounge, and occasionally when I turn the light out in my room. It rarely extends there though. So, as the bathroom overlooks a section of the lounge, I close it when I am doing my teeth if I feel it's there (of course we close it when we're using it for other purposes, but there's generally no need if you're only brushing your teeth).
An elderly minister I regularly speak to says it's a stain; the leftovers of something that happened in that part of the house. That would bring me to the conclusion of it being "residual" as you name it, ED. However, it somehow feels like more than that to me because I feel like I am being watched by someone or something as well.

That's very interesting indeed E-Dragon! I don't watch that show cuz mainly, I don't know if any of the channels around here carries it and if it does, I don't know the day or time. Don't worry Mel! That's probably just me dreaming about you. lol Just kidding, of course. I suppose it may be a combination of "inteligent & Residual" types. Who knows what someone with more experience on the matter might say anyways. BTW, I went looking online some more for info on Castle Kerrigan and I still can't find a darn thing. At least the place known as Moycullen isn't a fake... I think I need to expand the search a bit cuz, I'm not in the mood for translating the whole story from Spanish to English. It's quite long! 3nodding BTW, how far is the Tower of London from where you live Mel? In the mean time, look at this castle I found: Huntington Castle

Mel, I don't think a residual haunting would cause you to feel watched and you probably would have seen the event taking place again at least once. It could possibly be a traditional haunting since the spirit doesn't have to move things around to be noticed. Or, it could be a poltergeist. That would make sense since it happens after your parents are not around you and could be manifesting from your own mind. In other words, something about being left alone causes you to create your own energy around you, making you feel uneasy and watched. Perhaps something in your past relating to your parents not being there has subconsciously effected you in a way that it still lingers in your mind whether you know it or not.

No, I don't mind being alone. My parents can be out all day and I feel nothing. I'm quite content being alone.
It's only in that room, and it's always after dark late at night when my parents have gone to bed. It may occur a couple of times a week, or it might not appear for a month. It's definitely not me. I have a very strong faith, which I personally believe makes me resilient to anything affecting my psychologically. It doesn't harm me, but makes me feel very uncomfortable. It's a rather unpleasant sensation when it's around.

Then it might be traditional. Residual would take place every night, if not most. Poltergeist would be around more often, causing problems more frequently. Perhaps you can try to do a saiyonce (sp? xD) and see what happens, but to be careful to protect yourself ahead of time because other harmful spirits can enter without a personal invite.
Whatever it is, it's not there to harm anyone. Do not worry about it, unless things start to stir up and things begin happening without warning. If you still feel uncomfortable, try telling the entity to leave and that it's not wanted. That usually works for a simple spirit.

I have told it to leave, and in the Lord's name too. The elderly minister I sometimes speak to says that the only way to permanently get rid of it is to have communion in the room, because then God's presence is called directly there in the Christian belief.
He said to tell mum to speak to two people in her church about it because he did the same thing with them once. Mum's as yet not done that. *Sigh.* If she doesn't do it by the time I next speak to either of these people I'll mention it myself.
Perhaps I'm not being forceful enough with this "thing" as it were. It's against our faith to commune with spiritual beings like that, but if it's they who are contacting you, you can tell them to leave and if they're bugging you. It's apparently wrong to try to contact them to have a chat and to find out who they are etc.

Unless it's demonic, telling it to leave in God's name won't do a thing. The best way to get rid of it is if every person of the household joins together holding hands and says it at once. One person may not be able to get rid of something that occupies a residence full of other people.
Sometimes I wonder about religious dictations...

Well, ever since I did say that it doesn't come back anywhere near as often as it used to. It just makes me feel uncomfortable when it does. It try to ignore it as best I can and it usually works to a degree, but it doesn't alter the fact that it's there and I feel it.
Anyway, let's get on to discussing these things in general rather than making it all about what I experience on occasions.

Wow Mel, that must be something. I'm like you in the way that I enjoy being by myself too but I don't shun people either. I'm a bit sad that I haven't been called for work with those friends of mine like before but what is one to do if there ain't enough work?
So, has anyone seen the show "Ripley's: Believe it or not"? I seem to recall an episode where they captured a ghost on tape. The show I'm talking about was hosted by Jack Pallance (cuz there's a new one with Dean Cain, right?) and it was scary to watch back when I was a kid. 3nodding

I used to watch a show with that title! I don't think it's the same one though. There used to be a version of it over here that talked about real encounters with the supernatural.
The show "Ghost Hunters" makes me laugh. I wouldn't delve into that kind of stuff because it's against my faith, but it's still interesting to see what goes on in the world of the paranormal. The people in that show just don't seem serious enough about what they're doing, and the guests they have on it aren't really interested either. The way they act doesn't seem genuine in the slightest. They hear a noise and say "hello? Is anyone there? Make a sound if you can understand us. Hello? Where are you? Do something so that we know you're there." I just think they're thick to be perfectly honest. If you're going to hunt ghosts, that's not exactly the right way to go about it.
