In four mystical days, which will probably seem to take forever, I will go to see the stageplay of Phantom of the Opera here: http://www.foxtheatre.org. I have never seen the play before so... do you think I will like it better than the movie? I have very high hopes, seeing as I told my mom that I would rather see this play than go to any rock concert, ever.

I need a fancy dress.

No fancy dresses are needed, yeesh..... I walked into 3 broadway shows with a hawaiian shirt on and baggy goth pants, lol. It should be better, but sometimes the cast can suck... like it did for me.... grrrr.

.. still... it's a damn good excuse to buy a fancy dress.

Yes, fancy dress is required, or at least a nice pair of slacks or Sunday best. You should go in fancy dress, especially if you are seeing an evening performance. This isn't a movie you just bought tickets for - it's respect for the performers, not to mention it is assumed etiquette that you do so. And especially if you're going to the Fox. The Fox is just lovely.

Besides, the tour cast is supposed to be very good now, especially now that they've switched out the Christine and they've gotten a lovely Raoul. You should probably enjoy it; the cast isn't half bad.

Oh, Daemon, what are we going to do with you? I think you just didn't like it because you'd seen the movie first and had completely different expectations. Besides, there was nothing wrong with the cast, and you know it. The Broadway cast that you saw was rather good.

F- is such a pointless grade...

Anyway, it will always be better than the movie, since these people had to REALLY audition based on their vocal talent... not just their looks. >.<

Yes. Catching up with events now...
The play was wonderful. Gary Mauer did a magical job as the Phantom. Their Raoul was amazing as well, though I am not sure who it was, since they had an understudy for Michael Lewis. I did not enjoy their Christine however, as there were some points in the songs where Marie Danver's vibrato singing sounded identical to a car alarm. I wish I had gone on the weekends, as I am curious to hear how Mauer's wife would have done in the role of Christine.

Overall, I liked it alot.
I understand why the play-fans are so upset with the movie.
The movie was disgraceful compared to the play.

*slaps fuoku* HOW DARE YOU ACCUSE ME OF BEING A MOVIE BEFORE PLAY PERSON! I SAW IT WHEN I WAS 6 DAMN YOU AND I LOVED IT! Christine had a freaking "deep opera woman voice" not a nice soprano.

The Phantom had a voice where if you were supposed to say "Ah" he'd say "Eh". Christine was bloody FLAT on the high note in "Think of Me". Don't you dare say it was good. Oh, and there are some blatant screwups: Ferman ******** up a line, AND he had a flattop. I don't recall that being in style in that period.

Finally, the reason beyond that, that I don't like it even more, is that it was BROADWAY. Broadway is "epitomy of good in theatre", yet it SUCKED.

I'm sorry that your rendition ruined the play for you......

Neener neener. My show was better than your show.

I think Daemon just had a different idea in his mind than what he got, which is why he's so disappointed... And there's no need to brag, I saw the same cast Daemon saw, and it was pretty darn good. razz

A flat-topped Firmin would be fun to see.

When you were 6? Oh, yes, because I'm sure you remember that with any coherency. Clearly, if you liked it then, you ought to like it now because it's the same show.

Sandra Joseph does not have a "freaking deep opera woman voice", so I don't know what you're talking about. You can't expect perfect theatre from a live performance because simply by default, there is a wide range of possibilities for error due to the nature of humans. One flat note won't kill you, because clearly you survived the 2004 film. If you died over one flat note I really ought to show you Celia Graham who sang more than one flat note and still performed well.

Firmin's hat might be in the wrong period, but the Phantom's evening wear dates back to at least the 60's and 70's, so I really don't see what your deal is, buddy. Why aren't you going mad over the inaccuracies of dress in the 2004 movie, then? There were a few of those, too, in case anyone noticed.

And you know what, everyone screws up their lines or adds things in any show. That's just what happens. And it's cool that way. If you want a perfect show everytime, then why did you even go to see it? I think, Daemon, that you lack the perspective to stand back and see what was good about it, instead than nitpicking over absolutely ridiculously small facets of the show and allowing them to ruin things. If I based my opinion of the show on absolute perfection each time I've seen a show, then I'd never be able to give a postitive review for anything.

Why aren't all critics like you, fuoko? O.O

I hope they're not -- I'm far from a decent critic.
