I'm Jewish.

In the Bible it says you should dress to show respect. 3nodding

Fair point!

That's what it says in the Old Testament,

The New Testament says to come as you are!

But here's an interesting question. how do you show respect to an Omnipresent being? If you take that question to the end, because god is Omnipresent. All seeing, All being etc... then Then i'm not sure God really minds.

I went to a Synagogue once for a talk about the similarity's and differences between Christians and how we can still work together in Religion. Or something like that.

But i was left with one question! If men wear skullcaps and woman can/should (depending on opinion) sit in a different Area "Higher up" how is that then respecting god?

So this entire topic is directed at me, eh? xd

Let me start by saying that I am NOT orthodox. I don't believe in all the laws of Kashrut. I think a lot of them are unnecessary.
I will try to argue from that perspective, however.

Men wear skullcaps because you are supposed to cover your head in the presence of Adonai.

Women sit separately so they do not arouse the men who are trying to make connections with God.

xd

God minds because dressing nicely is showing that you have respect, and you love God, and want to go out of your way to look nice for prayer.

well I'm not sure i quite understand the answer.

Maybe I'm getting too theological about this.

But "looking nice" for pray doesn't to me make sense.

A large number of the profits in the Old Testament (the Jewish Bible)

They were not particularly people who had nice things to begin with.

the other thing is that as i grew up. I was given to understand that when talking to God. That i should talk to God where I'm at. Not where someone else says i should be at.

To me that simply means that God may appreciate the effort. But it doesn't really matter.

I know what I'm saying might seems offensive. but I'm trying to interpret into words what my prospective is.

It's not offensive.

"Looking nice" means that you are going out of your way to put on something more fancy than what you usually wear because you are designating this time to pray to God. This is showing respect for the time you have set aside and showing that you care about how God perceives you in his house. We are also taught that God is everywhere, but since that is a very abstract concept, we make a Temple where we can worship him and feel extra connected to his presence.

Now i know that the basis behind this is originally based on the first temple built by Solomon.

Built to house the Ark.

Later on people started building temples around Israel. the exact reasoning behind this is unknown to me. but i suspect that it's because

1) It allowed locals a place to focus on God

2) Being in a building also means that's people are protected from the weather.

While i try and work out another question. I would like to add that i have never personally believed in looking nice or cool of whatever. It's just something that has never made much sense to me.

ok. I've got got another complicated question.

Why if Islam is such a peace loving religion. do some people of Islam purposefully misread the text's to sanction violence?

I don't think so. I think people who interpret the Koran in a way that they think justifies violence convince don't purposefully misread the text...it's just what they THINK it means, or they think that it means something else.
But you have to be careful. Because many many Muslims are peace-loving, and want nothing to do with the terrorism that America likes to project as the stereotypical Muslim.

one of my friends at school was a muslim. quite frankly. he was a year older. but me and my best friend who were social outcasts excepted him. (although to be honest i struggled because he was soo different).

but when we grew up a bit and talked about religion. we came to an interesting conclusion or 2. but the basis we came up with was that Islam and Christianity share the same basic principles.

1) 1 god

2) Community

3) Acceptance of others.

But these Terrorists in my view misread it purposefully because they just hate the west.

Kinda like in the same way we invaded Iraq for the Oil. (although the weapons were really there once, cause Bush's extended family supplied them.)

I have nothing against the average Muslim (apart from my personal struggle to understand their religion). it's just that those who hate the west for no known reason decided to find a reason to attack. when normally they are peace loving.

(what's even more insane is they are also operating in China.)

mind you. something else. there is a big uproar about using Muslim laws over solid English laws. I'm not apposed to the idea of letting it be reviewed to integrate a few ideas. But i don't like the idea of people trying to impose laws from other places on my country.
