I'm not racist but vampires have white skin! Someone can be bitten and not be pale, like Maria, but once they are changed they HAVE to be pale. Unless, the make-up artists for Twilight are planning on making the actor look white, he won't look like Laurent!

The paleness would be caused by lack of flowing blood, because the heart is stopped. Vampirism would not turn a black man white. That said, I didn't imagine Laurent being black, but he seems good for the role. The actor certainly seems to be enjoying his job and role, which usually means a good performance. Give him a chance before you condemn him and throw him to the wolves. (Aw the irony.) heart

Remember Maria? Also Laurent is french. Heres even more proof, "The man in the front was easily the most beautiful, his skin olive-toned beneath the typical pallor, his hair a glossy black."

I forgot he was french. He is actually my least favorite of all of the vampires of the series. I still think that if a human was dark black he wouldn't be turned completely white by the transformation, but you're right, Laurent isn't black. I still think the actor will do a good job as Laurent, however. He isn't the only one wrongly cast race wise. The actor playing Jacob certainly isn't an indian.

I didn't think that Jacob's hair was as long as they had it. But that's just me. Laurent has to be a good actor, or else they wouldn't have chosen him. I mean they should have known the risks of choosing someone who's not as pale as Stephenie Meyer's vampires.

The casting for Jacob doesn't bother me too much it just sucks the Taylor is hotter than Robert (extreme fuzy eyebrows in the fight scene). In my mind Edward is waaayyy better looking! I may biased though.

I wasn't too pleased when they casted Laurent. He is supposed to be olive skinned, not black. But we have to remember that we aren't the ones who cast the actors and that our opinions only count when the movie comes out in the theaters. We have to look past the little differences b/w the book and movie because, let's face it, not every movie is fashioned 100% from the book. There aren't real vampires that they can cast for the parts and they have to make do with what they have.

Well first of all when you become a vampire your skin becomes snow white, and laurence is jamacin. That dosn't make sense to me... I don;t know, like right before Jasper vecomes a vampire, he see that other vampire that has clearly mexin features, but her skin was snow white. So i don;t know, it dosn't make sense to me. but either way, i can't wait to see the movie

The book did describe him as olive toned, but I think he was a wonderful pick. The color of an actors skin shouldn't have anything to do with what roles he can or can't get. I would have liked to see a little make up on him to make him more pale, but in general I was happy with him.
And it does need mentioning, there is a such thing as a black Frenchman. He said he was around 300, so he would have been alive during the days of slavery and America wasn't the only country that practiced that tradition, we were just the only country that did it to such harsh degrees.
