Kamrynn here, author of the novel...or series (I haven't decided yet) Fates: Gods of the Traditional Era.
Plot
Kamrynn Onasi, an ordinary college student, becomes infatuated with a 50 foot tall marble statue depicting the Greek giant Orion. It puzzles her how youthful and lovely he is shown based upon the Greek Myths. Eventually, the mystery of the statue and the Gods (or the beautiful creatures known as Firenze) is revealed and with Orion's resurrection comes a revival of the old society, mingling the Firenze and Humans once again, and single-handedly catching them up in a war with the Monsters. It follows the relationship of Orion and Kamrynn, as well as the other Gods and Mortals inhabiting Earth and the planets beyond.
Characters
Kamrynn Onasi: Named as a male through her father's insistence, Kamrynn attends an English boarding school in the first part of the novel and expresses interests in becoming a scientist. She is well educated, though not what other people would consider "beautiful". She has short brunette hair cut by herself into an artistic design, cold gray eyes, pasty freckled skin, and often wears glasses. She is lean, but short for her age and often mocked for her height and small chest. However, she loves the arts, whatever form they may come in, and most of all, Greek Mythology. She is a bit of a klutz, often thought to be "uptight", and has the constant feeling of being surrounded by idiots that think nothing of actual issues. Once she meets Orion, her rational world is turned upside-down and she clings to what little logic she has left in her life while slowly getting to know him, and even coming to love him in her own nervous way.
Orion Sinclaire: A naive, lonely, and sickly Firenze who was set in stone by a jealous woman he was betrothed to for trying to flee to the lower world. He finds comfort in the friendship of Kamrynn and falls in love with her after being in touch with her personality. Orion is intelligent, but lacks some common sense and relies of Kamrynn for help. He has a very serene disposition, though is slightly cynical due to his families constant bickering and fussing over him. He loves them, however, and knows they only want what's best for him (even if it means leaving him set in stone to ensure his "safety"). He at first believes that he is powerless, as he has been programmed to think as such through his entire childhood, but realizes through the girl's intervention that all he requires is the will to fight (though of course, his disabilities restrict him somewhat). He is quite paternal in nature and dotes on Kamrynn as if she were his own daughter (a trait also found in one of his cousins, Hermaphroditus).
Hermaphroditus Veena: A young Firenze, appearing in his late teens, who is actually a Hermaphrodite by birth. He was raised in both genders and was allowed to choose one when old enough, choosing a male one over the female gender his mother had hoped he would fit into (needless to say, this was a fine choice up until puberty took it's toll). He wears male clothes, asks to be referred to as such, and yes, uses breast-binding techniques in order to better form with his identity. He is quite content with his life and decision, and remains today as one of the Gods of Love (consisting of himself and his siblings under their mother Aphrodite). Herma is kind yet firm in the way he treats others, making an exception for Kamrynn (and treating her as a child to be doted upon). The two remain very close friends thought the series. Hermaphroditus is often insulted or ridiculed for his intersex and has developed a dark side as a result, revealing itself in violent outbursts and his power to curse others and certain objects. He is the most down-to-earth of his siblings and has the qualities of a true leader, something he has gained respect for through the years.
Dionysus Vivaldi: Orion's half-brother, a "pompous a**" as described by Kamrynn. He is the titled God of Wine and enjoys drinking his cold little heart out. He is rivals with Hermaphroditus, usually the one throwing the most insults. Though he has his faults, Dionysus would never do anything to deliberately hurt Kamrynn. He has a strong jealousy for her, suggesting that he may be pining for his brother's attention. He is Bisexual.
