"In the swamp, we see visions of people we've lost; people we've loved..."
I'm sure most of you know this quote and what it's referring to. A lot of Taangers think that, because Aang saw Toph in the swamp, it means she will die. Others disagree. I'm curious as to which side you're on.
Personally, I'm on the fence. I can understand both sides of the arguement, but don't have a strong belief in either one. I know which one I hope is right, but ither one could turn out true, in my opinion. D:
So, what about you guys?

I mean, everybody dies, right? That doesn't mean Toph will die in tehs series. But the quote, study it carefully:
"In the swamp, we see visions of people we've lost; people we've loved..."
If Aang saw Toph in the swamp, then that means he must love Toph. I know what you're all thinking, he didn't even know her yet, but...Here's another quote from the episode...Actually, two quotes:
"Time is an illusion and so is death."
"Time is an illusion… so, it’s…someone I will meet..."
So not only does it mean that Aang will meet Toph, but according to the main quote of this thread, he might also love her...*winks*

And I love how it implies that Aang will love her. =D It and 'Friendships can transcend lifetimes' are, like, the foundation for canon!Taang. In my opinion, anyway.

Time is an illusion. Katara and sokka's visions were of the people they knew in the past. Aang's vision was a vision of the future. He saw Toph so that he knew who he was looking for and how to find her.

Yes, I was the one who voted for 'Don't care.'
Why?
Because I thought about it. And there is four theories in here that I would like to point out as WRONG.
1st is the main one. And like, WUT!??!? She is OBVIOUSLY not going to die. She is one of the main characters.
2nd is the one with the past lives. Like, people! Hello! Try thinking of characters all day and drawing people and writing scripts and stuff...it could get VERY tiring! (And trust me, I know. -.-) So it would be easy to just copy things. So why not?
3rd is the whole 'Ummi past life' thing. What? I know the whole 'faceless' thing, but like, I think Katara is Ummi's reincarnation. I HATE Kataang, but the creators are the people who planned Avatar. And then planned Kataang, and we can't do anything about it. Well, we can, and me, knowing the creators, is working on it. >< But for now, that's cute, but not very likely.
4th is teh little he'll love her thingy that everyone loves. I LOVE IT TOO! But I just don't support it at the very least. But this one, I basically have no reason, is brain dead, or just doesn't feel like typing it. So yea. I hope this makes you think. I want to believe these as much as you do, and I'm not hating on people who do, I'm just sharing my opinions. ^^

I want to believe these as much as you do, and I'm not hating on people who do, I'm just sharing my opinions. ^^ Main characters die all the time - Zhao (main villain in S1), Jet (frequently recurring character) and Yue (not really main character, but still). If killing her would help plot progression and/or character development, then I don't see why the creators wouldn't do so. And, at the time the theory came out, Toph was still a relatively new character - she was only around for half of the series, actually. But if they're going to 'copy' or base Ummi off of any character, then why not Katara, the one who's supposed to be the Ummi to Aang's Kuruk? Ummi and Toph, from what I know, are incredibly similar, as are Aang and Kuruk - it's reasonable to draw parallels between the characters and hink their storylines will take similar direction. Not hating, either, just defending my opinion. :3

I see where you came with that conclusion. And Zhao I really just thought as Zuko's enemy. And plus, he didn't die. Remember how Aang can see what he is doing in the Avatar state? Then he would know if he killed Zhao. And near the end of the series, he says that he has never taken a life.
And I'm the type of boring person who listens to the commentary, and the creators say that they planned out the whole series before the first episode was even made.
Yes, I see where you would draw those conclusions with Ummi and Toph. What I don't see is how they are similar. Explain? :3
P.S. Jet I don't often see as a main character....but okay. Whatever you think, I respect that. x3 And Yue, she is a spirit. As in, immortal. So like...I don't think she died. And if people actually died on A:TLA, then wouldn't be on Teenick instead of Nickolodeon? xD
P.S.S. I'm pretty smart for a 10 year old, huh? ;P

I'm pretty smart for a 10 year old, huh? ;P Actually, when Zhao was killed, the Ocean Spirit had released Aang - it was killing Zhao for revenge on its own accord. As for Aang not killing anyone... That's so far from true. It might not be shown, but he's definitely killed a lot of people - all those ships he sunk in the Siege of the North, all those soldiers would've drowned. Plus, in 'The Desert', when he freed Momo from the buzzard-wasp that had tried to steal him, Aang shot with a blast of air. We saw it crash to the ground and never get up - I'm assuming that meant it's dead. There's probably more, but those are the main examples I can think of. I don't actually know much about Ummi, I've just heard other Taangers say they're similar. I think it's posted in one of the topics in the guild - probably the one on symbolism/foreshadowing. True. I just consider it a form of death whenever someone leaves the mortal world. ^.^; And a lot of mature content can be put into children's programming if it's handled properly - it's just a matter of not being too graphic with it.

Yeah, Aang contradicts himself a lot. I was kinda wishing Toph would pop up and give him a smack a couple times during the finale. xD Hehe. xD Yeah, it probably is better suited for there. Edit: Okay, what's up with the quote system on Gaia? The HTML looks fine, but it won't work for me. Dx
