What got you into the Rockabilly/Psychobily scene?
What influenced you to be apart or take curiosity in it? -What music influenced you? -People or places? -Movies,tv shows, other forms of media? -Do you parttake in any other scene then this one?

I don't have much of a story about how I got into the psychobilly scene but I remember sitting in the garage with my dad about 2 years back and he felt like poppin' in a CD with a whole mix of oldies and rockabilly songs. I fell in love with the whole collection and stole it away from my dad. It was a total of about 8 CDs, dating from 1954-1962. I listened to it day and night and eventually got myself more into rockabilly. Although, I didn't get too deep into rockabilly since I was preoccupied with punk and metal. One of my friends had a shirt, Horrorpops, a really cool looking shirt, and I asked her what type of genre that band was. Psychobilly, she said so I became interested. I looked it up then got into the "gateway" psychobilly bands like Nekromantix, Tiger Army, and Horrorpops. Not much afterwards, I got into an older, much better set of bands like The Meteors, Demented Are Go, and Koffin Kats. With time, I'd say I got deep into the psychobilly music, now I just can't escape it, nor do I want to. Psychobilly is now my favorite genre, and I seem to love it more and more everyday. I wouldn't say that anything from the public media influenced me at all, nor did anybody. The only person who in a way introduced me was my dad, but otherwise I found it all on my own. Aside from the billy scene, I guess you could say I partake in the punk scene. The thing is, if you were to see me walking around on the streets, you wouldn't be able to tell that I have anything to do with the billy scene. I dont dress the same way most of you gals do here. I'd say I have my own style. I still think it's a nice way to dress though, just not for me. You wouldn't be able to tell if I like punk or not either. Maybe just my band shirts would give you a hint. :/

Love Stiff Records. Ian Dury & The Blockheads - Sweet Gene Vincent. You get where I'm goin' :]. Wouldn't say I'm really a part of the scene - like quite a lot of other stuff tbh: Proto-punk, pub rock, punk (UK'76-'82 mostly) - I'll have a go with most genres but I have to admit, I'm quite taken with rock'n'roll smile .

Its cool to see where everyone gets the billy in them smile
I always liked the 50's the cars and all that. I was into the 80's metal and 90's punk scene and one day a psychobilly band opened for Rancid and .. my jaw dropped i had to get more of it. And yeh i started going to shows and its like i found a style i had always been looking for. Something with hard rock and from the 50's. heart

I guess I grew up kind of a rockabilly (I was born in Hendersonville, TN, which is where Roy Orbison made his home and my dad played for various bands in the 80's that are now considered rockabilly I guess) but kind of grew away from it in my early teen years.
Last summer, a musician friend of mine who plays bass for a British Invasion tribute band kind of re-introduced me to rockabilly and psychobilly through a band that he fronts called Third Degree Sideburn. That in turn got me re-hooked on it all. cool

My grandmother was a big fan of Elvis. She loved his music and had a wicked crush on him. I never gave him a thought until she introduced him to me. After listening to him I found that I enjoyed the music he made in the 50's more then his lasted stuff. At the time I had no idea it was rockabilly. After growing up listening to punk I just happened to come across a few rockabilly bands. They were sharing a web page with a punk band and I just happened to check them out. As soon as I heard the thump thump of the stand up bass I fell in love. I not only love the music but the cars, the clothes, and the movies.

Really tall man with big jet black hair, speaks in a weird accent so I'm told (to mask his true identity? :/). I don't get the bus (thankgodit'sbrightyellowD smile so can't give no more info on that. He actually looks more like an unattractive Dave Vanian tbh.

So, that didn't fly with him. I would have loved that though. I still plan on renting a 1955 Cadillac for the wedding. If I can't own one then I have to rent one.
