Jamie wondered about the unfamiliar, for lack of a better word, streets. Dressed in the tatty clothing the old woman he’d met the other day, with that he could only do so much to cover up his changes. The shoes could hide his thick toenails, but his hair was hardly long enough to disguise the points of his ears and the bumps on his forehead. Right now, he was trying to remember the right way to get back to her house, but the streets where to strange and similar to him to remember the way back, and even if he managed to trace their walk through the market, he’d still have to figure out the path out of town. But it wasn’t just because of her kindness he’d wanted to get out of town. Also, everything was too noisy for him in the town since his ears had grown. Right now, he felt he could use some peace and quiet, somewhere secluded, away from all his hustle and bustle.

It was hopeless. He’d never find his way home.

He glumly looks about, with a sigh. At least he had money to pay for food, he thought, jingling the coin bag the baron had given him.

Jonas certainly had an interesting day so far, after his run-in with Blythe and the few odd customers he had to deal with in his shop, he had enough for one day, and needed something to eat and drink at the pub. He was still worried about Blythe, it was almost unearthly what had happened, and it haunted his mind.

In Fact, Jonas was still thinking about her when he almost walked right into Jamie, bumping up against him slightly.

"Whoa! Sorry there Lad, didn't mean to nearly run you down there, my mind was elsewhere and I wasn't paying attention"

Jamie too had his mind else, he was also preoccupied with trying to avoid the stares of the other villagers. Even in his clothing, it was fairly obvious he wasn’t from around here, or anywhere remotely similar for that matter.

“...S-sorry” he muttered automatically apologising as always, at the loudest he could manage by his standards of speaking. He winced for a moment, not looking at the mans face, choosing to look at his knees, hoping he wouldn’t notice anything strange and leave.

" Its alright lad, no harm done, I guess we both will have to be more careful"

Jonas said as he looked Jamie over, The young'un looked a bit, off, to say the least, with the pointed ears, and the odd clothes, Jonas couldn't really see the bumps on Jamie's head since he was looking down towards his knees. But overall, the boy reminded Jonas of Blythe.

"You need directions or help finding someplace lad? anything I can do to help?" Jonas offered, not wanting to leave Jamie all on his own unless the young'un knew where he was going.

“Er..ye-yeah” He muttered, rubbing his hands together absentmindedly.

“J…just looking for a place out-outside of town”, he said, going his bests to sound as normal as he could given his shyness. But managed to only draw more attention to his new features with his constant fumbling on the spot. And he continued to stare at the mans knees.

"Out of town you say? you know who owns the place? I might know the name. I'm Jonas Hawthorne by the way"
Jonas said as he kept an eye on the boy, the lad definitely didn't look from around town.

"oh and looks like someone gave you a couple hard knocks on the head, how you do that?" he asked after noticing the pair of bumps on Jamie's head.

“This…this old lady” Jamie replied vaguely, he really couldn’t remember her name, that, and he preferred the man leave him alone as soon as possible. “Sorry” he added his apology automatically.

“I..I just f-fell” He lied badly, Jamie was never one to lie, and thus, was never really good at it. he tried to cover them up with his fore arm.

Jonas nodded with a sigh, He could understand the boy if he didn't want to talk about the bumps on his head, they did look strange, almost like the nubs on a young goat's head before they grew into horns.

"It's alright.... ah, the Woman's name didn't happen to
Gerta Elkweed would it? she lives out in the woods and doesn't see all that well" Jonas asked, knowing the name of the reported witch, but he didn't personally believe Gerta was a witch like some said, too many folks had been run out of town under that charge of either witch or heresy.

“Gerta” Jamie repeated under his usual mumbling speech. No, he was sure it wasn’t that, and the woman he’d met didn’t quite live in the woods, her house was more in a sort of clearing. Then again. He though, maybe he just calls it something different. Given what had happened to him so far, he was willing to believe that.

“I...think so” Jamie said a little unsure. He remember the woman didn’t see to well, so maybe they where thinking of the same person. “Can…can you show me the way?”

Jonas nodded as Jamie asked if he could show the boy the way to Gerta's home. "Sure, no problem lad, you all set to do some walking? Its a bit away, but not far enough to worry about needing to use a horse and cart"
He didn't want to mention it be just about impossible to get a cart into the forest where Gerta lived anyway.

"Need anything before we go?"

“O-okay, thank you” He said, perking up at bit, and nearly looking Jonas square in the eye for the first time since they’d started talking. Even though he was about to head in the completely wrong direction, he thought he’d trust the man. Jamie really needed to stop convincing himself to believe things like this.

“..No, no sir.” Everything he had was currently with him, not that’s it was much, he had his coin bag, his flute and the shirt on his back.

Jonas nodded even though he had a nagging feeling at the back of his mind it be better to keep the lad in town, and to avoid going out to see Getra.

"You sure? don't need to talk to anyone, or how about a hat? that might help keep some folks from staring and getting the wrong idea about those bumps on your head" Jonas mentioned, they certainly weren't from a fall in his mind.

“I’m...I’m sure, really…sir” He added quickly at the end.

“A hat?” he thought for moment, wondered why he hadn’t thought of that. He had the bag of coins, he could get something, at least for now. “Do…know a place I could get one before you show me the way?” he asked hesitantly.

Jonas nodded towards Jamie as he pointed down the street.

"Actually I own a pawnshop and have a few hats there if you're not particularly picky, a couple straw and leather hats made for farmers and field hands, a hood or two. If you can't find what you're looking for there is a clothing shop a few stores down" The shopkeeper said as he motioned for Jamie to follow as Jonas lead the way to his shop, which wasn't far away at all. It took Jonas a moment to unlock the door with an iron key, and then a special shaped rock to open it

"I'm going to have to find someone to watch the storefront, I can't afford to take much more time off" Jonas pointed towards a shelf on one side of the shop. "hats and other things are over there if you want to look lad."

“Oh, okay…th-thank you sir.” He nodded, half smiling for a moment. Maybe he had some luck left after all, he thought cheerfully.

Jamie picked up one of the straw hats from the shelf and tried it on, pushing it a little further down and backwards that usual to cover his ears and bumps. It did the job nicely. Jamie actually felt sort of comfortable in it.

He rummaged through the small con bag he had through the unfamiliar currency, unsure what the should pay Jonas for the hat he was already wearing.
