So I saw this thread posted in another guild I'm in. Apparently Craig Sherman of Gaia believes World of Warcraft isn't successful since only 10 million teenagers are on it out of the 800 million teens in the world.
Okay, WTF??? Like a person in the other guild said, I think this guy has a screwy sense of the term "success." How many teens in the world have computers, let alone access to the internet? Isn't WoW aimed more toward people in their twenties on up? Of course, there are probably a lot of teens and pre-teens playing on WoW, but I think he's kind of comparing apples to oranges. Even with the new Battle system, Gaia is still pretty much forum based, whereas WoW is an actual game that happens to also be online. Plus, isn't he kind of insulting Gaia, since I'm pretty sure there aren't over 10 million teens on here. Here is the link to the article featuring Sherman: http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/04/10/craig-sherman-of-gaia-online-wow-is-not-a-success/ Link to Sherman's career recap: http://www.linkedin.com/pub/0/78/559

WoW targets children and adults with very little life left in them xp , not all games need teenagers to succeed, but I can see why this guy would say that teens are essential. Almost all of our commercials and ads aim teenagers, in fact, the term 'Teenager' was created and used by commercials in order to target the new rising demographic of 'kids with money who will do things even though it it wouldn't be wise' >.<
Teenagers are nothing more but a 'market', forged and led by the media and its need for money. Are you a teenager?...or an adolescent? hmm, if you think that the second word sounds funny then you my friend have been institutionalized 3nodding
Woa...way off the subject....or AM I ninja

Something on here I wrap my head around. I hear people complaining all the time that the "teenage years" are being applied to earlier ages. Fro example, in my day (I'm 27 now) kids aged 10-12 were known as tweens, tweenagers, and adolescents. Kids aged 13-18 were considered teenagers. Recently, I've heard that anyone 10-19 are officially recognized as teenagers. Does this mean that kids will over take teens as a market?
