I thought we'd gather some tips for the times when you have to hold the money tight to make it last the whole month... 3nodding

Best tips:

* Control the portions, most people eat too much.
* Don't throw away food, leftovers are completely edible. (Take them with you to work so you don't have to buy lunch!)
* Freeze fresh fruit and veggies so they'll last longer.
* Don't go shopping hungry and always have a list of what to buy.

Frozen Treats

Mix fresh fruit (like banana) into a puré and freeze into tiny cups for a few hours. You can store it for a long time and take it out when you or the kids want a treat.

Soup

Why? Because water is cheap and soup is mostly water. 3nodding

* Bake your own bread, cook your own jam and if you have to eat candy - do it yourself. It's only sugar, flavorings and color anyway.

there's hundreds of flavors its cheap and all it takes is water n a microwave

Pasta is actually cheaper per portion than ramen, but the portion packs are convenient. There's actually two portions per pack but most people seem to count them as one. wink
