This is a series that basically everyone who's seen it, loves it.* I thought this might be a good place for discussion. Just a quick note: I'll start another thread for discussion of what constitutes "real" anime, so you can discuss that there.

*not counting the opinion of people who's opinion doesn't count.

well an "anime" is what constitutes something animated made in japan or an older term we less use nowadays is japanimation which is short for japanese animation so when the term anime arises in general an anime is such, "japanese" animation while many american animation companies are adopting many of the styles used in anime i.e. big eyes, sweat drops, etc. as they become more mainstream here in america, so quite literally an anime is anything animated in japan.

I really like Avatar, particularly how the creators were influenced by Japanese anime They even studied the six legged cat bus and applied it to Apa. The animation itself uses a similar frame rate to that used in anime. This makes it easier to provide a smoother flow to the animation. Some productions use really high frame rates in parts of a show (particularly recycled and/or rotoscoped footage, like that in He-Man) and leave the rest of the episode with a lower rate, making everything unbalanced and choppy. Avatar uses the funds left from cutting back on the rate to insert some really nice special effects and hire really good writers.

The world is really well developed and so are the characters. There are some cliches in the storyline, but they're either done well, or they're twisted to the point that you can't really tell what will happen next.

So the series has finally wrapped up smile ! So what are your opinions of how it ended?

Mine are:
I kind of wanted Zuko and Katara to get together, and I was curious to see if Sokka and Toph might make it as a couple, too. However Aang ended up with Katara and Sokka with Suki. It reminded me of Harry Potter where everyone is paired up with their childhood sweethearts, rather than finding suitable mates outside their clique of heroes. It makes more sense in this world, though, as the societies are a bit more isolated compared to modern England. You'd be more likely to pair up with someone you've known your whole life, especially if you don't have good transportation and can't travel outside your tribe's community.
The ending itself was very well done. I expect they will have some kind of follow up movie concerning the search for Zuko's mother, before starting the storyline for doing a spin-off series.
