Most people care enough about the environment to make personal sacrifices to save it
Above is a new topic.
Choose your position. Are you in agreement (For it) Not in agreement (against it) or neutral?
State your side/position and then defend your viewpoint.

**claims a couch**
This is the FOR section! mrgreen
I think it is more about the amount of sacrifice that is required, though. Doing something "little" to help the environment is something that people tend to think is acceptable. However, if it is something majour or something that will be an inconvenience for them, they are less likely (and less willing) to do those things...

*pulls a chair to the middle of the room* I guess i start ethe neutral side..
i'm neutral becasue some poepp do care a lot about the environment and then again there r others who would rather have the trees gone so that they didn't have to deal with the leaves...Then there r others who don't care but do care..if that makes any sence...

Okay, I'll join in.
I'll be in the AGAINST section on this one.
While I agree that a lot of people these days are concerned about the environment, I do not think that they are concerned sacrificially. They will say they are, but they still drive big cars and consume a lot of energy. When I see the majority of people going without cars, gas, and electricity, then I will believe this statement.

I'm going to be on the against section. It says that a person from the "agree" position is supposed to be here, but it's been like, a week and no one's posted Dx
Ok, so. If you see how many people are in buisnesses that tear down trees. Yes, only the top people of the buisnesses decide to do this, but what do the other people in the buisness do to prevent it? How many companies do you see trying to not tear down trees for their own benifit, or not using a lake to dump their waste in because it's cheaper for them?
People may think "oh...it'd be nice to keep the enviorment nice" but they do NOTHING about it. I agree with Ashterah. If they say that they REALLY DO care about the environment, I'm not going to beleive it until they show some effort.

Since the couch has been filled, I'll stand.
I agree with the statement because most people "care" for the enviroment, but when it comes to all that work and effort it takes to have the area enviromentally safe they wont really do it. Although they want to, people are naturally lazy so they wouldnt really do it. The thought is there, but the action isnt.
So I agree, but i dont want to expand on it a lot because this has been said

Ashterah Okay, I'll join in. So, according to you, the only way to sacrifice for the environment is to do without cars, gas and electricity? confused Certainly there have to be other ways that people can sacrifice for the environment without giving up these things. After all, society as a whole is finding ways to cut down on the use of electricity. We (as a society) are trying to come up with better sources for energy, including organic fuels. In addition, there are new vehicles being made which produce fewer emissions and use their fuel more efficiently. In addition to all of that, we also have things like recycling and buying things that made from recycled materials. THOSE entail sacrifices, too. It takes time to separate those materials that can be recycled from those that cannot be. There are also "earth-friendly" ways of cleaning that do not pollute the environment. Sticking to these things, even though it would be easier to just buy less expensive, easier to use items that would harm the environment IS making a sacrifice. People who donate to charities that help the planet are making a sacrifice. They could keep that money for themselves or, worse, spend that money on things that HARM the environment. My point is that not all sacrifices have to be majour OR harmful to those who make them.

i would like to say im all for saving the environment, but not many share this view, if i give my opinions to others they just laugh at it and go about what they were doing before.

I believe it is possible to care about the environment and make small sacrifices on a daily basis. If someone cares about the environment enough to make a few huge sacrifices ONCE, it is nice, but they still need to make the smaller sacrifices that will keep the conservation "movement" going forward instead of stagnating.
I have encountered people who claimed it was okay to do small things that harm the environment because they have made one large sacrifice (such as switching form a car to a bicycle) to help the environment. They feel that not using a car does enough to help the environment that their littering (or other small thing) is permissible.

1.
I would be neutral.
I care, but not too much. I'll try, but truthfully i won't dedicate my life.
I'm not thrilled our world is becoming polluted. But i'm not going to only eat a certain thing, or never use napkins.
But i will recyle, to an extent. So if that is how i am, along with most my family members, then more than likely many others feel the same.
