When I do actually buy anime now these days, I usually wait for the thin pack for the series to come out. I usually don't bother with special features, except for the one on the final disc of the Azumanga Daioh DVDs. On that disc, they have a theatrical short with slightly different character designs for the characters and a really bizzare dream sequence for Osaka, which isn't seen in the manga or the TV series. I guess I can always go out and buy the DVD, but would it really be worth it to buy the same thing just to get the short extra? Most of the people in anime club buy the individual DVDs, especially ones that come with art boxes. I guess it just depends on how much of a fan of a series you are. I don't really see why they can't have the extras on the discs in the thin packs, though.
