The big debate. Since I don't have cable I don't see a lot of English dubbed anime anymore. When I first got into the fandom I would only buy dubbed anime since I ha trouble keeping up with the subtitles. Also when the show was dubbed, I could pay attention to the entire screen, whereas i would have to focus on the bottom of the screen to read the subtitles.
It is neat to hear the original language, and I've heard that the subbed version of a show is usually more accurate than the dubbed version. My current preference for subbed anime has changed my buying habits. About 1 1/2 years ago I would gladly throw down $100 for a couple of box sets. Now I rarely buy legitimate releases, and in fact, I don't even download all that much anymore. Most of the stuff I watch is on youtube, although lately I've found some really high quality subs of Soul Eater on veoh.
So what do you prefer? What are some pros and cons of the different versions? Do you ver watch anime dubbed in languages other than Japanese and English?

their good and bad points either way, usually I would prefer an anime to be subbed japanese with englush subtitles, it keeps true to the style and also in my opinions japanese is a very beautiful language to hear, but their some anime i prefer dubbed in english, those few I have come to realize on occasion I can feel the intensity and emotion of a person i can understand in an anime over a person speaking japanese with words on the bottom, that is where I like dubbed versions but alot of them dont do too well in voice acting and the japanese versions often time the people are very intense with their emotions when they speak so sometimes its better from a japanese version, for example, watch dragonballz in japanese and youll see what I mean by intense in their voices...

I will watch either, just so I can watch the anime. Though I would rather it be subbed, so as to get the whole story, where as when its dubbed, they may change alot of things to make them flow with the given spoken language.

Yeah, there are some anime that it just seems weird to see subbed, actually. Cowboy Bebop is one of those for me. I've got some of the DVDs, but I've only seen a few minutes of it subbed. Hellsing is the same way. I love the British accents, though I think I actually prefer the TV dub to the Ultimate OVAs. It's the same cast, but the actors seem a bit worn out, like their bored with their parts. They seemed to put more energy, though some people would probably say too much energy, into the TV dub. I love Alexander Anderson's voice actor heart !

i think also it has to do with what you saw first...for example cowboy bebop, i like the voice actors and i saw the english stuff and got used to that on cartoon network, now if i wanna watch cowboy bebop id rather see it in english, dragonballz, old as it may be i saw it first in english, i like the american voice actors for that as well, though sometimes the japanese version is much more instense, the yelling when they fight and power up is...on the japanese version, very instense. as for some anime I can feel the emotion better in a japanese version but sometimes in an american dubbed version so, its a toss up sometimes for me, I like naruto, and i like the voice acting for some of the characters on the american version but in the japanese version I like it even more, for that anime I can feel the characters emotions in rough times and such better on naruto, another example full metal alchemist i watched it in american and I cant imagine hearing ed and alphonse's voices any other way...see my point? its back and forth for me depending.

When I first started watching anime, I would watch dubs.
But now I like subs better.

I watch both.
There are some dubs I really hate.
But there are also some subs I really hate.

I sometimes prefer English dub than English sub in some anime shows and movies like Escaflowne, Kyo Kara Maoh, and Cowboy Bebop: The Movie. I remember a few years back at Christmas when we were at my other granny's( yes that's what my brother, cousins, and I called her[ now deceased]) us kids went down to the basement to have dinner while the rest of the family ate upstairs. Other granny had gotten a DVD player for a present and I popped in my new Cowboy Bebop: The Movie DVD, anyhow the damn thing was subbed so in my opinion it sucked big time, mainly because how they changed the dialogue a little.
