The large male raptor stalked carefully from his leaf-ridden hideout, into the open territory that was used as common ground between the Proto and his own kind. He clucked his tongue against the top of his beak loudly, craning his long neck and glancing about in a meddlesome fashion. Aterrimus snorted slightly and gave his thick, muscular tail a whip, the feathers rustling noisily as he lifted one foot after the other, very high in the air, and stepped out into the open for good now. He was completely visible now, if he had been concealed by those trees and bushes before.

The male gave a more inquisitive glance about, contrary to the first look he gave the lands, and noticed there were indeed other grazing about, or chasing this or that. The huge, dull-colored Baro narrowed his eyes, shook his head; and then crouched slightly, the muscles bulging from his powerful legs.

User Image A dark shadow fell on the large Baro, a winged form circling over him. Further inspection would reveal the creature to be another raptor, this one a female Lepto, spiraling down towards the ground where she landed a little ways away from him, accidentally brushing the top of his crest with the tip of one wing.
Cyriaca stretched out her wings and craned her neck around to preen a bit of her back feathers before looking around at her surroundings. This was the first time she had ever been to the mainland since she was a little chick and her mother had brought her there once and things looked a lot different. Of course, they hadn't gone farther than the beach, but still. And she had only ever seen a couple of Protos before, so when she looked up and saw the raptor nearly twice her size, her sky-colored eyes widened and her crest rose in surprise.

Aterrimus cried out in annoyance at the other creature, which was so obviously of another breed than himself. He used the cavity of his chest to make a loud booming-type noise; stating his indignation at this act of vandalism. Well, that was rude. Although, the large, dull-colored beast hadn't taken into account the fact that it may well have just been an accident, and that the skinny little creature before him hadn't meant to. He shifted his weight, and stood at his full height, stretching out of the crouching position he'd been in just a moment before, as the thud of his huge feet resounded slightly.

He looked up at her, from where his gaze had been resting; through his brow, and snorted again, the hot air that came through his nostrils making some of the dust that had been settling on his beak make a tiny little cloud before it drifted off, or settled again. He gave his thick tail a quick lash and then lifted the feathers of his crest slightly, rustling them as if he wanted to touch of the other gone, and also making himself seem even bigger; though he wasn't sure that was entirely necessary, but it worked anyway.

Cyriaca took a frightened step backwards, her slender neck bending down so that her head was closer to her torso, shrinking her already small stature. Regal she may be, proper and poised, but when faced with a creature twice one's size and apparently angry for some reason, one has a right to be frightened.

A soft noise escaped her beak and she took another step back. Should she run? no, he'd probably be much faster. Maybe she should fly. But she had no idea how well or even if the larger raptor could fly. Almost instinctively, her arms loosened a bit, ready to take her off into the skies should the raptor attack her.

The baro wasn't angry, per se, merely irritated at the fact that this other either had boundary issues, or was just plain clumsy. "You didn't mean to do that, did you? Because if you did..." Aterrimus trailed off, lifting a brow at the other and rustling his arm-feathers a little bit. "I mean...then I'd have to do something about it." He nodded with a tiny little snort, which he figured added emphasis. He didn't mean to be scary, but the fact that he was huge must have had something to do with it.

He gave the feathers on his tail a little lift and a flick, and then glanced about, watching the other creatures that were hanging about, some of them glancing in his own direction curiously, others carefully skirting the large raptor. "You can't just get in someone's space like that and not expect some kind of reaction." Aterrimus added in his deep voice, laying the feathers of his crest back, as he was feeling slightly less threatened now that he was speaking with this female and attempting to resolve this issue.

Cyriaca blinked for a moment before giving the larger microraptor a elegant bow, her head down and wings spread out.
"Oh, of course not sir. A mere miscalculation in the position of my wings. I do apologize profusely," she said, her voice slightly low toned, words well articulated and apologetic. She straightened and tilted her head a bit to one side, very bird-like in the motion.

"You took me by surprise. I barely felt my wing brush you, so I... fear I wrote it off as a tug of the wind."

"Well, then I suppose I can let it go, too then. As long as you're sorry." He grumped, ruffling up his feathers and then staring off past the female into the distance. He longed to somday fly off into distant worlds, but Aterrimus knew that this was obviously, and painfully impossible, so he tried not to think of it. There was the territory of his kind, and the territories of the other kinds, and there was the common ground.

That was it. And that was all there would ever be. Unless he managed to fly long enough to get over the great, huge seas. Which was also another quite obvious impossibility. His huge body couldn't glide much further than a fair few yards, unlike the female before him, who could fly relatively long distances.

Though Aterrimus didn't often think of it as a bad thing that he couldn't fly. His huge, muscular legs allowed for a much faster land pace than MANY other creatures around here. "So, how is the sky today?" He sighed slightly and turned his attention back to the female again.

"Very sorry, indeed," Cyriaca replied and looked off into the sky when he asked about it. She blinked for a moment as she considered her answer. Any other lepto might have just shrugged it off, admitting that they had never really noticed how the sky felt as they flew around in it, but Cyriaca was not the type to admit take "little things" for granted.

"Pleasant. There's a bit of a breeze, but nothing terribly difficult to handle. the updrafts out over the deep water," her term for the ocean surrounding the islands, "And the sky is nice and warm from the sun."

"Ahh, yes. That's all very well then." The large raptor nodded slightly; though he honestly had no idea what he was talking about when it came to sky-related things. He couldn't fly well, nor had he ever really put much effort into it. His type were better on their feet anyway. It had never really occurred to him that the sky could be different in many places, since he'd never spent time up there; even if he wanted to fly at all, there was no way he could achieve the height or distance of that a lepto raptor could.

"It is a hot day..." Aterrimus trailed off. He could feel the sweat forming under his layers of feathers, and on his skin. It was bright, and very hot, this much was true; and he supposed that maybe when the sun was this bright, it was harder for the flying type to see where they were going, being so close to the sun and all. Again, it was something he seldom thought of, since it was so easy for himself to just take himself along to the small areas that had thick forests, and just hide himself away in the shade until the sun went.
