What do you think makes a CULT! (OMG!!!!)
This is the universal question. through this thread and a few others I plan to make.

Technically, a cult is any religion before it becomes mainstream, is it not? It's a small to medium-sized group of people that believe and act in a certain way according to their beliefs. Cult has a negative connotation due to the idiots who have started suicide cults and people like Manson. At least, that's how I always understood it.

A cult is a group usally religous or supremis, that follows a leader who is obsessed with power and comtrol and usally doesn't belive in the things he or she is telling thr group. The people in the cult usally either are a supremist or manipluted into thinking a certain way. Two cults that i can think off the top of my group are the KKK(Ku Klux Klan) and Jim Jones (leader but i don't know the cult name) I do not agree with either or them and i think the goverment should ban the KKK becasue of their murderis behavoir which is illegal and incrouches on the pruist of happieness of other people!

Cult's, as is any religion, are very dangerous.
Cults usually differ from religion on several points, one of them being that the entire focus of Cults are on a HUMAN and not on a deity. Of course, they may accept the human as a deity, but they are not, as humans are generally unable to become deity's unless they make some heroic achievement or are born as half-human.
Regardless, Cults are always controlled by a leader that usually contorts a pre-existing faith to their own comfort. Advent Christianity is the most popular target because it is so easily manipulated from their belief systems (That Christ will appear in flesh), allowing for any twit who read half the bible and attended an advent church for a year to convince any number of people that he/she is the 'Messiah'.
Cults usually end up tragically, because their leader's are selfish and usually already have a pre-existing mental disorder.
There is no such thing as a 'Group-Ruled Cult'. There is always a 'Leader' that controls and manipulates.
Religion is less subjective. Since the deity/deities you are worshiping are not flesh-bound, there is no way to twist the belief into something else. There is already an established moral code.
Many religions were also formulated to create a sort of 'Law' in a lawless land. Using the threat of a deity, good people would try to maintain a moral code in place that had no competent law enforcement or human rights.
Cults are far different, though. They don't have a set moral code because the 'deity' is alive and speaks to his followers regularly, and thus can make his new 'religion' how ever he wants it.

I agree, that the 'leader' ,who is usally a sick b*****d, think of himslef/herself as a god or some sort.

a cult takes on many meanings. it depends on how you want to use or abuse this word as to what it really means.
1. Any religion that focuses on worship of a particular person or deity.

2. A cult of personality or personality cult arises when a country's leader uses mass media to create a heroic public image through unquestioning flattery and praise. Cults of personality are often found in dictatorships but can be found in some democracies as well.
3. A situation where a leader (often a dictator) has been falsely idolized and made into a national or group icon and is revered as a result
