Alright, this is an issue thats been bugging me.

Our Spring Musical is 'The Wiz', and its the first time many of us have ever sung, danced, etc. The girl who got Dorothy is the only one with proffesional vocal training, but cant act for s**t. Her only other competition (For some wierd reason, nobody wanted to be Dorothy aside from those two) didn't have the best voice on the planet, but she's by far the best actress of the bunch.

So here's my question, what do you think is more important for the lead of a musical? An actress who cant sing, or a singer who cant act?

I think in a musical it is very important to have both talents, but if I had to choose I would pick the actress who can't sing. In a show I believe it is more important to tell the story properly than to sing perfectly. I think with some really good training either of them could reach their full potential as a performer. smile

I sure hope so. If the girl playing Dorothy does her stupid monotone performance night-of, I'm gonna trip her...

But yeah, I agree 100% I'm gonna try and convince the girl who can act to coach the singer a bit 3nodding

Ha ha. If you are going to convince her to coach her a bit you have to make sure she is very delicate. It all depends on what kind of performer the singer is. If she takes critisism with open arms then it should be fine, but if she is very sensitive about her performing you may actually have to trip her. smile

Yeah... she freaked out because I stole one of her sour straws...
We'll see what happens. I think the girl knows how to handle the situation, though...

Wow. That's pretty lucky then. Hope everything goes well. Break a leg in the show!

All the singers [good singers] should Act, so if you say the girl haves professional Training for her vocals she should be an actress at least regular.

But for a musical is more Important a Good singer with regular acting hability than an Actor without singing voice.

She's not that horrible of an actress, she just can't do innocent roles like Dorothy.

But hey, the show was actually pretty awesome! I mean, the scenery was decent, and the dancing was half-assed, but overall, people really seemed to enjoy it!

Well in the case of a musical, a good singing voice is more important than an incredible acting gift. (We did "The Wiz" two years ago at my school heart ). Although of course, it's the best to be skilled at both, but in that case, a better singer (especially if he/she can dance as well) is more important than the acting aspect.
