it was dusk when Damian finally reached Gerta's home. Not much had changed since he had been there last except for himself, His tongue hadn't been working with a mind of it's own then.
there was the distinct barking of a dog as Adam came out. ~Hush Adam, go get Gerta~

Adam payed no attention to Damian's request. He knew the gator-wolf-man and he was excited to see him, but it was a dog's job to announce visitors. Gerta had made sure of that
Still Gerta wasn't far behind. She had been milking Ivy out in the back, but quickly came running as fast as her old body could to check who the visitor was. She knew Adam's bark well enough to tell it was someone he knew
"Who's there?"

~Its Damian Gerta~ the hybrid being said as he used his hand to keep Adam from jumping up onto him.
~Its been a while...how have things been here? I met your visitor Alex yesterday~

Although unusual, Gerta wasn't surprised by Damian's method of communication. An old witch like her knew better than to consider the spoken word the only method to talk with someone
"Indeed it has been a while. Can I interest you in a nice cup of tea Damian? Or perhaps some fresh milk? I don't think Adam is interested in a no for an answer"
She was quite right. Adam was excited to have another canine companion around and didn't gave up on giving Damian an approving lick of welcome, no matter how much he struggled to keep him at bay

~Milk will be fine, but don't trouble yourself with making tea~ Damian says as he gives adam a friendly petting. ~Was wondering though if you have a spare wool blanket you've made, got some gold I can trade for it, or any work you need done, like splitting wood~

"If it was trouble I wouldn't be inviting" Gerta nodded, already walking back towards her house
Adam looked between his owner and Damian, deciding to follow Gerta, but keeping a short distance between him and the wolf-man
"Yes, I have one from the spare wool I was given last year. But might as well feed the gold to the boars. No 'honest' villager wants witch gold"
She opened the door of her hut and motioned Damian to get in, while she went around the house to get the bucket of milk. The only canine presence Ivy tolerated was Adam's and the last thing Gerta needed was a panicked goat

Damian nodded as he went inside the hut, having to duck as he did so. ~A shame the honest villagers are close-minded like that~
the wolf-man found a suitable stool and sat down to wait, but he could still clearly speak to Gerta. ~I can't take a blanket from you that took you so long to get wool for without paying for it equally in return, so what can I do for you?~

"Shame shmame, a bunch of idiots all of them. They would rather die as a sacrificial sheep instead of thinking for themselves" she complained loud and clear. The past experience she had with Damian told her his ears were sharp enough to hear her perfectly, even with the walls between them
But she kept herself from saying anything else until she was back inside the warmth of her cluttered home. Meanwhile Adam was bumping his head on Damian's leg, demanding some scratching attention on his ears
"Maybe a fix on my roof or some meat for me, Iris and Adam. But we can discuss the price later. First the milk"
She grabbed a bowl and 2 cups before serving goat milk to her, Damian and Adam. The taste was nearly as strong as the smell, but it was rich and nutritious. Quite a rare treat for anyone who lived in the woods
"So, what brings you here besides blankets?"

Damian drank the milk slowly, it had been a while he had the chance to drink something as pleasant as milk. ~I heard....that Alex there, has a few more friends still in town. None of them haven't been around here have they?"
the hybrid asked as he gave into Adam's begging and started to scratch between the dog's ears. ~Isis, you haven't seen or heard any interesting news from town have you?"~

"No, he was the first and only one after you people. But Ironwood is vast and they could be easily scattered about. And you know how dangerous that can be" Gerta said as she added some wild honey to sweeten her milk, offering Damian to do the same if he so wished
~It's Iris, you snake tongued mutt!!!~
The cat had sneaked in out of nowhere, even if he door was shut, and vainly walked in towards Adam's milk bowl, tail tip flickering in slight annoyance for having Damian here Not that she had anything against him though, she simply felt like announcing that was her space, not his
Adam was more interested in the petting than in the milk, so he didn't complain more than a gruff for Iris drinking out of his bowl
~No, I was playing homing pigeon. But there isn't much word around about the newcomers, even if there's quite a few of them. Good news in a way~

Damian carefully took the honey to add into his milk. his hands were large and made things difficult sometimes.
~Cool your own tongue Iris, or I'll douse you with a bucketful of water~ Damian replied gruffly with a light short growl, he hated insults, but he had been called and treated far worse before.
~Hopefully Jade, Cricket or Iris here can help track down any of them that do wander into the forest, but thats not likely to happen till they get chased out or have to leave if they do indeed change~

Iris was about to snap back at Damian, but Gerta swiftly interrupted. Her guest had been kind enough to share the conversation they were having with her
"Hush Iris, you know better. Same goes for you Damian. I will not tolerate any fighting here"
The cat kept her mouth shut, out of respect she had for the old lady, but if Damian was to listen to her private thoughts then he'd get an earful of insults running in her head
~They will change, every single one of them. It's as sure as the sun setting every single day. Or do I need to refresh your memory?~

~No need to remind me Iris, you, me, Cricket and Jade won't be forgetting what happened to us anytime soon~ Damian said as he drank some more milk, then set the cup with some milk left on the floor by Iris.
~More than likely, any of the new arrivals Alex knows will end up by my camp, hopefully by the time they show up they haven't changed so much they can't go back into town to buy some supplies, like some tents. There's only so much I can do, took long enough to build my shack. I won't be able to go building huts for every one that shows up~

~I don't think so. I don't think those people will want to leave unless they really have to~
Iris finished licking the rest of Adam's milk and then proceeded to clean herself up, as if to ignore Daiman's cup right besides her. She was no leftover eating dog. She had more pride than that
"You shouldn't worry too much about that Damian. Ironwood is more than able enough to provide you people. As long as you respect it, you'll find a solution"
~You're being a wuss. Our job is to teach him how to cope with the incoming changes, not to let them live the illusion they're still human~

Damian tapped his claws on the table as Adam moved over to drink up the remaining milk that Iris hadn't touched.
~You're right that they won't want to leave, denial is a strong thing, and they probably won't leave till the villagers chase them out~
The hybrid's tongue hissed as Damian thought to himself.
