So, apparently Disney's finally venturing back into 2D hand-drawn animation again (yay!). "The Frog Princess" will be their first 2D feature film since "Home On The Range"! Another first for this film is that it will feature Disney's first African American princess and her name will be Maddy, apparently the story is set in New Orleans. She'll be joining the likes of Ariel, Mulan, Jasmine, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella for Disney's Princesses brand. So, what do you guys think? Are you glad Disney's going back to 2D for at least this once?

I'm very glad they're going back to 2D animation for this one.
Though, due to some retarded "PC" nonsense, her name is now Tiana, and the movie is called The Princess and the Frog >_>

A Nightmare Fantasmic I'm very glad they're going back to 2D animation for this one.
Though, due to some retarded "PC" nonsense, her name is now Tiana, and the movie is called The Princess and the Frog >_> I'd first titled it The Princess and the Frog, but then I saw a bunch of other versions... lol. I suppose there will be a few extra hiccups for Disney with this since everyone has an opinion on what's PC. I also heard she was supposed to have a job as a housekeeper/maid at the start, but people found it offensive so they changed it. Cinderella basically started out as a maid... Snow White too. neutral

Ohh, cool! I don't hate the 3D movies, but I love the 2D ones! It just seems more traditional to me - more in the traditional Disney style. The movie sounds interesting, too.

YES! I thought 2D would be gone forever T-T
Though I hope it has the traditional Disney feel to it... that's getting lost too now that things are getting more modern.

Hmm, it sounds interesting and I am certainly looking forward to it. I love 2D and I actually prefer it to 3D. I enjoy 3D, of course, but 2D just seems more... traditional and in the good, old way of Disney. I do not like that they had to change anything for Political Correctness. I agree with Lady Fiata. A lot of the Princesses start as lower-level citizens, it makes a better story. As for her name, it just makes more sense. It is in no way racist to say Maddy is a common name among African Americans, it is just a name. I mean, it just makes sense to fit the name to the character. There is no racist meaning in naming a character by a name common among their race. It is just a fact. They named Mulan an Asian name, I never saw any correction there, Jasmine had a Middle Eastern name. I mean, if I made a Princess and called her Sarah because it is common among white people, is that racist? No.
((I apologize for the rant, but this sort of thing ticks me off. I seriously doubt Disney meant any offense or racial slur, so why bother getting them for it. Would anyone have really cared that her name was Maddy?))

Ugh, I agree with all of you. I think it's highly doubtful that Disney, of all companies, would meaningfully try to make a racial slur. It just goes to show you how "messed up" the world we live in currently is. I mean, companies are getting sued because people spill coffee, which is obviously hot, on themselves. I guess Disney didn't want to take the chance that someone would get offended by, what? Portraying a black woman as a maid? It really annoys me how people have to tip-toe around to avoid "hurting" people's feelings, when we're all supposedly equal anyways. Ergh... confused
Whatever, it still looks like it'll be a good movie.

I know exactly what you mean. Poland has some of the same bizarre situations, though, I have to admit, I have run in to far more of them here in the States. Poland never really seemed to have the racial problem America has, though, to be far, our African population is far smaller. Either way, I am looking forward to this movie. I love the pictures, Lady Phillip, especially the last one. The show looks great. I do think that it is funny that the concept art, which is just a rough sketch, actually looks like a decent picture these days. I guess our worst is not really that bad anymore. Heh. Oh, and Lady Phillip, what is that Maleficent bit in your signature?

Prince Phillip Im so happy about this. Stuff I found: and my absolute favorite, the picture which gives me absolute faith in this movie: Thanks so much for this!! I'm so glad to see a better more finalised version of this character and now I'm feeling even more positive about it. biggrin She looks lovely and will make a fine addition to the current princesses. I just hope they don't run into too many PC issues as mentioned... I think people sometimes just like to make waves for the sake of attention. I think this'll be a great project, can't wait to see it. biggrin

The Princess and the Frog - Wikipedia Page"The film, which began production under the working title The Frog Princess, will be an American fairy tale musical set in New Orleans during the 1920s Jazz Age, and Tiana will be the first black American Disney Princess." "The film is believed to return to the Broadway-style musical in the style of the successful Disney films of the late-1980s and the early 1990s." There is also a list of the cast and characters on the Wikipedia page listed above. biggrin
