Oh yes!!!! Guess who got to meet him in person blaugh ! And he is a very interesting person, too. George R.R. Martin had a lot of great stories to tell about fans at various conventions of old. Including a story about a group of con goers in the 70's who decided to go skinny dipping in the hotel pool one night. What they didn't realize, was that on wall of the pool itself was a large glass window looking into the hotel restaurant. Now some of these folks were rather Rubenesque, as one of the restaurateurs pointed out excitedly, "Oh, look! Manatees!" lol

Anyway, he read from the latest book in the series, A Dance with Dragons. The chapter he chose to read was one from A Feast For Crows that was originally written from Sam's point of view, but in this next book was rewritten from Jon Snow's point of view. It was enough to get me interested in the series again (I had stopped half-way through the second volume).
Anyone else here a fan of this series?

It's pretty good, but the second book lags a bit. Each chapter is written from the view point of a different character, so you really get into everyone's heads. Consequently, you empathize with the villains and you find out the heroes can be real jerks. I stopped reading the second book, but now that I've met the author, he's kind of inspired me to read them again. The one thing I really didn't like, was that the books were kind of misogynist, especially the fourth one. There's a lot of rape and incest in them, which were also factors which stopped me from reading them.

sometimes reading involves realism in the detail and the way of peoples lives, ive come to accept it, its a necesity sometimes to explain a story.
