Mist World:

A rather cramped space, a few shelves and some refrigerators line the back walls. There are few check out registers, about three, and all seem quite small--similar to a ten items or less line. The refrigerators seem to be fogged up, but broken, and a rotten stench is coming from inside--the food on the shelves is gone however, save for a few empty containers strewn about the floor.

Other Side:

The shelves look burnt and rusted as do the walls. The refrigerators are now fenced over and lead into pitch blackness. The checkout counters resemble the rest of the place, a few items, also burnt, still waiting to be set into one of the few, rusted buggies nearby.

'Why the hell is it so foggy here?' Sean wondered as he drove further into town. 'I don't remember it ever being like that when I lived here.'
It was beginning to grate on his nerves, because the last thing he wanted was to get in a wreck and have that severely delay the meeting with his father.

Soon, he spotted a sign for a convenience store poking its way out of the mist, and impulsively slowed his speed down.
'Well, I'll probably be in the hospital for awhile anyway..." he thought, absently licking his lips. "...so I might as well pick up something to eat.'

He parked his car, and upon exiting, noticed how eerily quiet it was. Where were the sounds of other cars? Where were the barking dogs in the distance? It just didn't make sense.

"Maybe someone inside can tell me what's going on." he muttered bitterly, and strode towards the front of the convenience store.
He could see through the windows that the interior was very dimly-lit, but this didn't deter him. "Well, the sign says open, so..."
As soon as he made it inside the door, he was immediately assaulted with the smell of something rotten.

"God, what the..." his sleeve flew up to cover his face. He looked around and saw that most of the interior appeared to be burnt out, or rusted over. Had there been a fire? Why hadn't there been a sign posted saying that the store was no longer in service?

"Hello?" he called out, momentarily gagging on the stench, before covering his face once again.
"Can anyone hear me?" he continued, his voice muffled slightly by his shirt sleeve.

He paused for a moment, letting his good eye become more accustomed to the dark interior.

'Stupid, of course there's no-one here, what was I thinking?' he cursed himself mentally, and turned around to leave.
It was then that he noticed something peculiar out of the corner of his eye, shrouded in the shadows at the back of the store.
Was there a person lying on the floor?
Cautiously, he began making his way towards the shape.

Sean was halfway down the middle aisle of the store when his foot knocked into an old, rusty can.
He flinched slightly at the loud clattering noise it made as it catapulted towards the figure on the floor.

There were a few moments of blissful silence as it came to a stop, but his face sank as it was soon followed by a sickening, unworldly slurping noise.
The figure on the floor suddenly spasmed, and began rising.

"Uhmmm, hello?" Sean asked, taking a step back.

A loud, garbled choking sound came from the figure as it rose to its feet, and even in the limited light, Sean could tell that something was wrong, its head was shaking far too quickly and too violently for it to be normal.

"s**t..." he cursed under his breath, taking a few more hurried steps back.
In his haste, the back of his leg ran into a corroded basket, and it tipped over, spilling a black umbrella onto the floor.

The figure advanced, one of its bloated, deformed arms reaching forward.

Sean hesitated for a moment, temporarily locked in fear, before righting himself, and stooping down to pick up the umbrella.

"I don't know who or what the ******** you are..." he gritted, holding the umbrella in front of him like a weapon. "...but stay the hell away from me!"

The creature lunged, and Sean thrust the umbrella forward with an aggravated grunt, skewering it somewhere in the face.
He drew the umbrella back out, its point now dripping with blood and ooze, and readied himself for another forward strike.

The creature cried out in pain, stumbled back and to the side, collided with the aisle shelving, then fell onto its stomach.
As its shaking limbs attempted to find purchase with the floor in order to draw itself into a standing position once again, Sean took advantage of the opportunity, clutched the umbrella handle with both hands, and began stabbing the creature repeatedly in the back of the head.

A rush of euphoria suddenly spread throughout his body, as wave after wave of blood splashed upward and outward, showering his face and clothing with crimson.
It felt good.
He began cackling, his stabbing becoming more and more violent.

Finally, any and all motion in the creature stopped.
Sean stood momentarily frozen, umbrella lifted high above him in the better part of another stab, then slowly, his arms relaxed and fell limp to his side.
The hint of madness that once was in his eye was gone now, and he appeared once again calm and normal.

"I..." he paused, clearing his throat. "...I gotta get out of here."
As if in a drunken stupor, he turned around and walked a slightly erratic path back out of the store, dragging his blood-soaked umbrella behind him.

Once outside, Sean noticed that something was different yet again.
The mist that was coating the town had thinned considerably, however, it was now replaced with a seething, pervading darkness.
He could barely see the outline of his car, which he hurriedly jogged towards in his growing haste to escape.

Upon reaching it, his heart sank, then anger set back in.
"What... what the ******** happened to my goddamn car?!" he screeched, seeing that somehow, it had become horribly corroded, not to mention any interior cushioning looked like a million rats had chewed through it, and the tires were simply gone without a trace.

"UGH, I don't freaking believe this!" he spat, kicking the side, then huffing around to the trunk and yanking it open.
"Hm." he grinned slightly, satisfied to at least see that some of the tools he had stored were still in there.
He rifled through some of the more useless items before finally producing a small pocket flashlight, a backpack, and some first aid spray.
"Figures I don't have a tire iron..." he muttered, before slamming the trunk closed.

"Well..." he sighed, stepping onto the sidewalk, "...looks like I'm WALKING to the hospital."

Alice blindly stumbled through the darkness, untill she had found a store front that wasnt locked. Slowly entering the place she found it smelled of rotting flesh, probably from rotten foods, but in this hell hole....
Better then nothing she whispered, poking her head behind the counter she didnt find any monsters, so for now she relaxed siting on top of the counter to await Ryan.

Ryan, coughing, stumbled in after Alice, tripping over the leg of a table (while the table itself leaned haphazardly to one side). He moaned slightly, taking advantage of the dingy light to check himself over, rolling up the pant leg of the leg that had been hit. Sure enough, the movement brought with it pain, and the flow of blood- he hadn't even known he was bleeding, it seemed such a natural occurance. But the clot was now removed and he gasped, before forcing himself to stand and shuffle over to where Alice sat. "Looks like I'll be out of commission for a while," he mumbled as he leaned on his crowbar for support, gaining some warmth from the blood oozing down his leg from a cut about knee-height.

Alice looked worried about the gash, remembering what had happened to Cybil.
"Do you think that will get infected...? I mean we're inside now." She asked, looking over at the doors and windows, which amazingly wernt broken, but she suspected did little good ageinst the toxic smoke of the town.

"I don't know," Ryan mumbled, "If you mean the dark, there's no stopping it... If you mean bacteria, most likely. But you can't be sure." He pulled out the small bottle from his pocket, using the rest of it to flush his leg and casually tossing the empty bottle over his shoulder, muttering that it didn't matter now and they could find more water in the store.

"Alright, well I suppose there isnt much we ca do but wait this hell out." She replied, jumping down off the counter to start her search of the store for anything useful.

"Yeah," Ryan sighed in agreeance, wiping some hair from his face and watching her wander off. Filled with a sense of panic at being alone in the Otherworld (and not in his own home), he scooted off the counter he had sat on and, using the crowbar as a cane, walked with Alice through the isles.

Alice was relieved wen she heard Ryan trailing along after her, she wanted him to rest, but she also didnt want to be alone.
So far everything was scattered acrost the floors, and gave off putrid scent, surprisingly enuff even the twinkies had gone bad!
Alice let out a deep sigh and walked over to one of the fridges, the air around them was cool, but all the inside was consumed by shadow.
"Hay Ryan, can I barrow you're crowbar for a sec?" Alice asked looking back.

Cybil stumbled in, clutching her chest; a layer of skin, bone, muscle was all that separated her hand from her weakly-beating heart. The darkness seeped into every pore of her being, twisting and digging its way through her body, a spinning vortex that swept up everything in its path. Her mind was slowly being overtaken by the virus, and she fell to her knees as her hands grabbed her head, applying their own pressure against what she already felt.

A loud, pitiful moan echoed through the store as Cybil fell to her side, a thin layer of formerly-undisturbed dust rising at her contact.

((Damn, it's been a while. D: ))
