The town wasn't quite as busy at 1 O'clock pm as it is after 3, mainly due to people being at work and at school. It was a relatively warm day, a welcome change after the rainfall of the day before. The majority of people in town at this time consisted of stay-at-home mothers and their youngsters, the unemployed and the jobseekers and those that work at the central cafe's and businesses of the town.
Although knowing this, it still felt strange to Kartia, the young teenaged female with the long blonde hair and the bluest eyes you might have ever seen who was strolling down the main street's sidewalk toward a quaint little outdoor cafe near the park. With her backpack slung over one shoulder, it wasn't too hard to tell that she was a student at the private school nearby. As she arrived at the cafe, she ordered a chocolate chiller and took a seat, waiting for her friends to finish their morning classes to join her, as they had organised the day before.

Marione was the first to join Kartia, seeing as she didn't much care for classes and only did as she pleased anyway, much to the dismay of practically all the teachers. She grinned and waved to Kartia as she went inside to order herself a Chai Latte, and then sat down next to the younger girl. "Hey, Kid!" She said, her voice came from the back of her throat with the usual suave sort of resonance of hers, that most people don't pick up on anyway. She tucked her straightened black hair behind her ear as she leaned back in her chair, looking relieved, or relaxed- either way unbelievably at ease, being outside the school. She didn't know what it was, she just did not like restriction... At all. "You playin' hooky too?" She asked, suddenly more alert than a relaxed moment ago.

"No." Kartia replied quickly. "My last class finished ten minutes ago." She explained. "Teacher gave us an early mark." She nodded quickly to emphasise her words and smiled. Then the waitress brought out her chocolate chiller. "Thanks." She smiled again at the waitress and started to stir the whipped cream in with the straw before taking a sip.

"Ah!" Marione grinned again. "Bet I know which teacher that was." Along with Kartia's chocolate chiller, the waitress also brought out Mari's chai latte. "Mmm, This stuff always calms me down." She smiled as she closed her eyes, taking in the aroma of the tea.

"You mean you're stressed?" The blonde girl asked with a small, knowing smile. She was somewhat empathic... Then she frowned slightly. "How can you drink that on such a hot day?"

Marione mimicked Kartia's expressions, smiling and frowning together with what she said. "F. Y. I. I'm cold, thank you, and maybe I am a little stressed." She now crossed her legs as her slight frustration increased.

"Cold?" She asked in disbelief. "It's hot today!"
"And what are your abilities again, misseh?"
"Um... Healing and empathy..."
Marione nodded and gestured at Kartia in frustration with an abrupt open palm. Therefore, shouldn't you know how I can feel cold!?
Kartia smiled wryly and stared into her drink...

"Hello!!!" Came a thin little voice echoing down the street as a tiny girl with short blonde hair came bouncing madly down the street...
Oh great. Not right now...
Oh thank heaven! It was starting to get awkward... I don't know if I should be so open around Mari today... Kartia stood up and hugged Tasha.
"HELLOOMIGOSH IT'S SOGOODTOSEEYOUGUYS!!!!" Tasha smiled broadly, the whole time bouncing lightly on the balls of her feet...
"Yeah... Tasha... Sit down... Please..."
"MARIIIIIIi!!!!!" Tasha squealed and leapt into the eldest girl's lap...
Mari couldn't help laughing. "Okay, okay, now sit down already. We can't have you popping outside of school..." She was referring to the whole confetti business, but she suddenly realised that it sounded like she meant something else, after the disapproving looks from a nearby woman having a coffee with her baby sitting in a pram next to her. Argh. Crap. Now they think we're all on drugs...
Kartia spoke clearly to Tasha in her most reasonable, mature voice for the benefit of the other people. "That's right. We can't have you throwing confetti everywhere. Come on, let's get you something to drink. Nothing with sugar... or worse, coffee in it, okay?" She nodded at Mari, picking up on the feeling and saying the right thing.
Mari looked gratefully at Kartia this time, for her quick thinking. Sometimes she was sick of being a mutant...

Tasha grinned happily at the other two girls, and then noticed their drinks. "You have a hot drink because you come from a hot place, and you have a cold drink because you come from a cold place!" She smiled, satisfied with her own interpretations, even though they might not make much sense to anyone else. She then bounded into the cafe to order her own drink. "I'dlike a chocolate andbanana milkshake please! with cream on top!" She said, handing over the money in her own perky manner before skipping back to her seat.

Two boys and a girl dawdled down the street... And what an odd sight they were. One of the boys was thin and covered with clothing from head to toe except for his face- even his hands were covered... The girl was worriesomely thin... The other boy was actually pretty normal looking, except that his clothes looked to be about two sizes too big for him. They each had a similar backpack to Kartia's, each one carrying their bags whichever way they were most comfortable with. Actually, the most normal guy appeared to be carrying the girl's bag as well, while she, dressed in white, would tag along behind. Her long brown hair was in a plait today, the fringe somewhat frizzy and sticking out in all directions...
"Saulius!" Kartia called out to her brother. "Good to see you, I wasn't sure you'd come."
The boy with the black hair just nodded at her in response.
"...Hell-O!" Said the normal looking guy to Kartia, checking her out...
She smiled. "Please..." She said, holding up a hand to stop him, then turned her attention back to her brother. "Saul, you've made friends?"
The boy looked at the two others and nodded again, quietly. "Leo and Vita." Saulius pointed at Vitalia. "She's a healer too... Like you."

"Pleased to meet you both!" Kartia smiled calmly and helped them pull up some more chairs. "I'm glad to meet another healer. Why, just the other day, I met an empath and we were just commenting that there weren't enough healers around..."
That damn girl is far too innocent. Humans might pick up on us...
"Does yours come out of your life too?" Vitalia asked.
Kartia looked confused. "No... I draw upon the powers of the universe to heal, it doesn't drain me... Does it drain you?" That would explain a lot: The girl's fragile appearance, her pale complexion...
Vitalia looked saddened, nodding. "I guess I just wanted to help so badly that it does."
"Oh... I'm sorry to hear that. I wish I could help." The girl reminded Kartia of her brother. Maybe that's why he ended up meeting them. Why was everyone around her so depressed? What upset her was the fact that she couldn't do anything for their emotions.
Marione looked around cautiously. I guess I'm the babysitter today, she thought, realising that she was the eldest here, the only 19 year old among a bunch of 13-15 year olds... "Yo, kiddies, ipZay Up On heTay utantMay alkTay... Or we'll have to go back to school, right?"

The four younger ones appeared confused at first. Only Saulius, it seemed, understood what Marione was trying to say. He was used to having to hide his 'mutantness'. "Maybe we should go..."
"Don't be silly, Saul. We still have forty minutes." Kartia replied shortly, before returning to her conversation with Vitalia.
"So... you're into sports?" Saulius attempted to start a conversation. He really wasn't very good at this.
Leo replied, "Yeah, everything. I love it."
The two boys nodded at each other. "I prefer music. No physical contact."
Leo went on to explain that there were many non-contact sports, not getting the hint. The boy was dense.
"I mean, I can't. I can't touch people." The conversation between the two boys seemed to fizzle after that.
Tasha joined the two girls' conversation, leaving Mari to herself. She got up, deciding to go for a short walk. "I'll be right back." She went a short way down the street and stopped... turning into a quiet back street that led out away from the main hustle and bustle...

"Can I help you, my dear?" Came a sultry voice from someone walking by who had stopped. "You seem a little... Lost." It was a mature woman, about a decade older than Marione.
Marione looked at the woman cautiously, sizing her up. "No thanks. I'm just-" "Looking for something? Someone? I know your type, dear. I was the same once." "Please. I'm nothing like you." "Oh but you are, my dear. You'll see. Our world needs more women like you and I. You felt compelled to walk this way, correct?" Marione was quiet. "Explain." She demanded. The Tigress just smiled and pointed down the alleyway. "You'll see. In your own time. It's more than chance, my dear." When Marione looked in the direction that she was pointing, she reached up and grabbed a horizontal overhead bar, flipping up on top of the building. "But-" She's gone. Mari looked again down the alleyway. There had to be something. And what was that woman's motives anyway? How dare she approach her like that. She turned around, heading back to the other students.

Tigress watched from the top of the building, with a self-satisfied smirk. She wondered why Gabriel had approached the girl. She was a pretty little thing, not a rulebreaker but not a follower of them either... And what of it? The woman clenched her teeth slightly. Was this jealousy? She knew she had always had a thing for Gabriel... He was cool, confusing, glamorous and bad, and she liked that... Maybe she had just become too polished for him. Too controlled. She certainly felt it. The girl was something natural, raw, unpredictable. At that moment, the Tigress decided she would watch her for him. A woman's body is the most dangerous weapon, after all, and they could do with more weapons. Perhaps a girl to put the lackey in his place. She thought, maliciously.

On her way back to the table at the cafe, Marione put her hand in her handbag and clutched something with her hand. A compact of makeup. She took it out and put it in her pocket, to look at later, then sat down, dropping her bag at her feet.
