So, I want to do an Alice and Wonderland Theme wedding, with a Mad Hatter's Tea Party Reception.
(Its actually the first wedding idea my fiance was somewhat excited about. He wanted to do a gamer's wedding, but I am trying to find a middle ground between what he likes and what the rest of the family might actually enjoy as well).
I was wondering what Alice-type and Wonderland-type ideas everyone might have to make the theme really felt.
P.S. I have at least 2 years to plan this...we are broke college students right now. sad

To compromise Alice and gaming, why not have an electric wonderland? Nothing big in the funding department, but mix it up with binary code teacups here and there - a mock tv screen with a system hooked up in a tree hollow (not a real tree, decoration of course). A l337 Cheshire Cat? And perhaps a computer card in the Mad Hatter's hat...It blends both the worlds without too much fuss if you even things out.

Ok from a guys stand point, I am not a fan of Alice in Wonderland. I also understand how a gamer's wedding would not be so great either... so things are rough. But if you guys like it who cares. lol. I think mixing it would be ok, but confusing. So my conclusion... Just do the Alice thing, after all the woman always cares a lot more about the event anyways.

I think it's great! If your wanting a themed wedding, it's hard to find one you, your fiance, and both your families can appreciate, and Alice in Wonderland is one that everyone knows. Do it!

I think it's a wonderful idea, you can play with a lot of ideas there. I'm in the same boat you are with the whole wedding thing (only mine is next year) and being broke college grads.
Feel free to PM if you wanna trade ideas or whatnot ^^

First off, congrats! Second, you wouldn't be the first person I've heard of having a gamer's wedding. My friend had Warcraft as her theme this year.. razz Third, I think Alice in Wonderland is an amazing theme you can do a lot with! It all depends how all-out you want to get.. Do you want to dye your hair bleach blond and wear an Alice costume ( razz ) or do you just want to do the invitations and centrepieces in the theme?

What a wonderful idea and good luck on your wedding. Here are a few ideas. i hope they help.
I'd suggest serving baked goods if you can bake. like tarts for the queen of heart. cupcakes that say eat me on it. If you can sew you may be able to find some good costume patterns. Maybe write a quote from Alice in wonderland on the invitations. playing cards for favors buy some fake white roses and paint some of them red. don't forget the mad hatter hat. Chinese lanterns are good too.
Congratulations

Thanks for all the suggestions! my two years turned into 6 months this January 2009 because my great grandparents gave us the engagement ring, and my great grandfather was terminal. He did pass away, right before the wedding, but I think he was there in spirit.
Went with the Alice theme, it was sooo much fun!
