A short term console or a long term console?
Microsoft said that the xbox and the xbox 360 have saved the games industry, with helping selling millions of games but they are only around for 4-5 years then you will need to get the next console, which cost several time what a game cost.
then you have Sony with the ps2. 8 years and still selling console number similar to the 360 and ps3 but easily out selling them in software sales. and the ps3 if sony stick to what they said will be here till 2015 before it realises a ps4.

well, i think there is a good side to both, for a long term console you would not have to worry about buying a new console for a while, however which technology rapidly growing we would need better hardware for better games
