Background/History

No one noticed it happening. The subtle shifts in climate, changes in behavior among animals. Everyone had been so absorbed by the technological advances made by the humans. No one realized they were ignoring their planet, and it was slowly reclaiming itself. When buildings suddenly would crumble, due to unnatural shifts in the tectonic plates of the planet's crust. The northern climate made a drastic shift, becoming warmer, while southern lands grew warmer. It almost seemed like the whole planet made a shift on its axis, where it would be warmest grew coldest, and vice versa. Docile animals grew more dangerous, while predators lost their characteristic aggressiveness. The humans' work, all they'd suffered for, was slowly being destroyed by their own planet. Flora retook cities, vines, moss, and lichen growing more rapidly than should have been possible.
Now few cities remain with the technology the humans had sought so desperately to attain; others were reduced to more primitive havens where little was offered. The main cities that maintained their status built protective walls around themselves, determined to remain as they were, while the rest of the world was left to fend for themselves.
Each continent had maybe one or two technologically-advanced city, with a few of the smaller towns scattered far between. Anyone who desired to travel the wilderness was expected to be able to fend for themselves, or hire a bodyguard from one of the main cities, otherwise they'd be picked out in the harsh lands outside those protective walls..

Okay, I know. I'm reeeally behind on this. I got sidetracked by so many things. Graduation's real soon, and finals are this week! Anyway!! Without further ado.

Characters

If you would so kindly follow this brief form when submitting your profile...

Name- Your character's name...
Age- Your character's age. Or something close, like 'Looks about 21' or something like that.
Race- While human is probably the most logical race, you can be something else. Such as an over-intelligent animal, or some strange plant that became sentient with the shifting of nature. Use your imagination!
Appearance- This would be what your character looks like. Hair color, eye color, complexion... Things like that. Be as detailed, or as brief, as you want!
Bio- This would include a brief (or detailed) history of your character. Include whatever you may see fit. Of course, none of the other characters will know any of this information unless it ties in with their outward appearance/personality. Also, please mention their occupation, if they have one. You can add if they have a birthplace, or hometown, if you see fit!

Upon creating your character... Post the profile... And start roleplaying! I don't really see a need to wait for any kind of approval... Since I've been sluggish on getting this on the move as it is. ><;

Rules

They're everywhere.

1. Gaia TOS and whatnot. Obey them.
2. Literacy. Please. If you don't know what it is, or what qualifies, ask someone!
3. Courtesy. No one wants to RP with a rude person. If your character is naturally mean and unkind, that's okay. Don't take it OOC, though.
4. Anything goes, rating-wise. Whatever you don't feel ashamed to have other people see/read/interact with.
5. If you disagree with a fellow RP'er... Leave them alone. Ignore them. Persistent bothering? Let a crew member know. They'll handle it. We don't need arguments and fights within a friendly topic!

THERE. Now.. Have at!

Name- Maebelline [Mae-Mae for short]
Age- 17
Bloodtype: B
Race- A mix between a clouded leopard and human. Her long sharp teeth often give people the idea that she's a vampire. Her skinny yet muscular legs, and her unique opaque skin give her an odd sickly look while her deep blue-black eyes give a feeling of unesyness to all who fall prey to there gaze. Her hair is a mixture of silver, black, and white and can often shift to hid her presence in the thick jungle's shadows. Her habitat used to be the Asian contenent until the jungles spread and she could travel more freely around the planed in the northern hemasphere with a more tropical climate.
Bio- She was born shy, like her breed. There all born as kits, easy to raise, but as they get older, there body's shift in dramatic, painful ways, some with other, more dominate cat features then others that might only get the voice of a person. She was raised as a normal baby would be, in the treetops, learning to hunt and survive. Her mother was hunted for her pelt as any rare, still cat-like animal would. This did affect her, although she didn't realize it. She talkes in third person to herself almost all the time, and keeps a bubbly personality. Words normal humans in the 21st century would use would be twisted in her mouth to make perticular comments on her overall view of something was. Friends didn't come easy, but when they did, they were lifelong. Her brother left after her mothers passing and wasn't much of a help when she needed him. Now self defendent, she tends to overreact and missunderstand scarcasm. Seeking a mate to continue her breeds existance, although she fears the rough nature males are known for, and woman are often killed after being paired, which explaines the dangers there facing in extinction. For fear of death, she requires paicence to do something uncomforible.

Mae-Mae took a long sighing breath, the tree's whooshed beneith her graceful paws. Furry fingers gripped the smooth bark with a rhythmic motion, releasing her claws when she needed a good grip on the tree.
"So Mae-Mae, whats in store today?" She asked herself.
"Dunno. Mae-Mae was looking at the possibilitys of exploring the awkward's remains." Awkwad's were the humans. They didn't look natural in the Jungle. They needed the light unlike her huge, sencitive eyes. They caught every ray of sun seaping though the trees.
"Mae-Mae adgrees, that is a good idea."
Mae-Mae balanced on her hind legs, just as comforible at on all fours and took in a scent though her mouth.
"Awkword's are close."
"Yes, Mae-Mae can smell" She chatted to herself, quietly. Today would be fun.

Name- Grenfer
Age- 50
Race- Weeping Willow Treant Sapling
Appearance- Young and spindly, tall for his age. Distinctly inhuman, with skin the color of dark brown bark covering his entirety. He's thin--abnormally thin--yet carries the form of a male human. Though he lacks the necessary organs to be a definite male. His legs are long, easily carrying him with each stride, and sharpen to a dangerous point at where feet would be. In times of feeding, he'll sink into the ground and roots will slither from the points, but other than that, they're as sharp as stakes. His arms and fingers are long as well, fingers mimicking his feet and sharpening to needle-like points. His eyes are barely noticeable, two holes in his head that sometimes alight with an amber glow. Being a weeping willow, and although still young, he has a particular curtain of leaves that only now reach his bonelike shoulders. He rarely speaks, finding the noise unnecessary and unbecoming.
Bio- Grenfer is one of the many treants that awoke at the turn of the age. His Awakening came much later than the older trees, due to his being young. While his fellows went to fight against the encroaching human populace, he remained in his grove as to grow a little older before subjecting to death. By the time he chose to move out, though swift as it was, most of the initial attack had been thwarted, human towns decimated and forests burned to ash. He roams the confused earth, finding refuge most often in the dense and dark forests of the colder regions, near the equator, as it were.

Grenfer shifted uncomfortably, a slow and barely noticeable movement. He could feel the presence of others in this area--an uncommon place for him to be found in, but it was necessary. His previous home at the northern point of the planet had grown uninhabitable, due to a rise in savage humanoids prowling the once safe forests. The deep jungle was abuzz with noise, either that of the evolved animals and insects, or the ring in his own tree-bark ears. He placed a needlelike hand on the tree next to him, then turned his head upward. Gaping holes peered up, amber fire slowly sparking within their depths. There was something in the tree above him, he could feel it. He didn't know what it was, though knew it wasn't a human. They couldn't climb trees anymore--none would let them. He turned his head back forward, dismissing the creature as just another animal minding its own business, as he was.

Mae-Mae froze, her ears perking as she sank slowly to all fours agian. There was absolutly no way she just saw that tree ahead move.
"Dose Mae-Mae smell that?"
"Mae-Mae dose."
It was distinct. She hadn't smelt it before, and her natural fight or flight instints came into play. She measured them like so;
Fight: Mae-Mae might not have to. This could be harmless and a good companion, although it is not another leopard. Yet this could be harmful, and Mae-Mae could loose something, like an eye, or it could be her very life.
Flight: Mae-Mae would just turn those bad options down, but Mae-Mae would never get to meet the odd thing. Plus, Mae-Mae would never get over her disgustingly shy side.
She picked sneaking over. She could hide well enough, so if she needed she could flee at the drop of a hat.
"Let's investigate, Mae-Mae." She declaired, picking her way along the branches, and bribing her hair to darken to the shadows. Finialy she was close enough to get a good look, and what she saw shocked her. It was a Willow. But it was alive. Sclient as the snow that used to fall, she scaled down the tree, and closed the small gap between it and herself. Looking up at the giant, she lost all powers of speech, and gazed with round, dark eyes.

Grenfer issued a small sigh, joints creaking. It wasn't because he was too terribly old--they just did that. He pulled his legs up, using the tree beside him for support. The roots that sprout from his needle-feet during each feed receded, disappearing once more. Swaying, the considered what to do next. The jungle was uncomfortable for him, but the only colder regions were further south. And one of the humans' cities stood between him and a comfortable forest.
Slowly, ever so slowly, Grenfer turned around. The amber spark in his eyes dimmed to nearly nothing, falling to the very back of his eye sockets. He looked haunted, gaping black holes where eyes should be...
But then he paused, looking around, the light returning and seeming to search the area for something. The creature he'd sensed before...It was closer.

Mae-Mae's figure stiffened as the Willow moved. It contained life, deffinatly. She prayed that the flat sheet of bark before her was it's face, and she rose, slowly, carefuly, gracefuly, to her hind legs, balancing to get a closer look at the creature. She tilted her head, serching the two empty sockets where eyes might go, detecting the faint flicker of light from there depths. Her eyes where built for dark places. Unsure, she pulled her lips back in a cat-like grin, long fangs jutted from her mouth. She blinked and purred as sweetly as possible,
"Hello, Mae-Mae finds you question-making, as well as bubbly-making. What is Mae-Mae looking at?"
She hopped her broken language would work. Most people thought she was as insane as she looked. Letting her tail rest as a balance on the leaf and debree covered floor, she tried not to look embaressed under the empry stare. It only made her feel more sickly and unwanted.

One of the many animals that have evolved passed their time...
Grenfer tilted his head, the faint lights blinking for a second before growing brighter.
"Grenfer." The willow sapling ground out, cringing from the sound as though it hurt him. He hardly ever spoke, in all his fifty years. But it would've been rude to ignore this... 'Mae-Mae's question. The treant extended a hand slowly, palm up in a sign of peace. He wasn't sure what the girl would do, but he didn't know of any other way to prove he's rather.. harmless.

[[Theres a turkey looking though my window!! Eww!! Make that 2...]]

Mae-Mae's eyes grew round,
"Grenfer." She tested the word. His groaning voice made her pelt crawl, and her tail fluff. Before she could catch up, a hand was extended to her. There where three ways she could handle this. One, place her own paw into it, and possibly getting it crushed. Two, rub herself along it as a normal cat would. Three, run. She looked again into his almost compleetly black eyes, and fathomed them. He seemed calm, nice. She extended her own paw, and let it rest in his. She hoped she was making the right choice.

(( Turkeys? O_o ))

Grenfer nodded, just a brief shake of his head that had the curtain of leaves swishing. He carefully slid his hand out from underneath the creature's paw. Had he a mouth, he would've smiled...But he didn't, so the cold expression of a Willow was forever his. He turned his head, glancing southward and pointed. Maybe Mae-Mae was also heading that way..

[[They moved now, but thats what you get for living in the North....]]

Mae-Mae noted the gesture. It was a good nod, and she stared, mistified by the boy-if you could call it that-until he removed his rough hand from hers. His eyes sparkled, lighting slightly before he turned South. She tended to stay North, but South could work. She was still curious, and when she noticed that Grenfer didn't leave she figured it was an invitation.
"Can Mae-Mae come with?" She asked, hoping for a nod, or even more for him to again speek. She was enchanded.

Grenfer's eyes sparkled, as he nodded. He extended his hand again, pointing with the other Southward. His feet had sunk into the ground for the long period of time he'd been standing there, and he had to pull them up again. The roots shivered then shrunk again, leaving his feet their normal sharp point. He started moving, slow strides, and would glance over a bony shoulder, just to make sure Mae-Mae was following. Company was always nice on these long kind of trips, but there weren't any more Awakened in the area..He was rather alone.

Mae-Mae had to bound to keep up with the moving tree. She was glad she had been accepted by him, and hopefuly he wouldn't mind her absent self talking.
"Mae-Mae is happy let her come." She went to make good conversation. "Did you know Mae-Mae's real name is Maebelline?" She asked. Despratly, she wanted to hear his groaning voice. It was very shiver-making, but she enjoyed it just the same. No noise came from her as she bounded around tree after tree though the dead leaves. Humidity bogged them down, and she questioned weather the tree could too feel the heat, but she remained scilent. He was so quiet it was amazing he was there at all. To Mae-Mae, it was like traveling alone. Yet just the feelng of having him there was reassuring-making. It was new, but welcome. Remembering what she said, she waited to see if you would [or could] reply. She had more questions planned in her head, the most important being where were they going, but it didn't matter much. So much for going to see the Awkwords place. Maybe there would be some along the way.
