Temperature: 60 Degrees Fahrenheit

The day is cloudy, gray clouds hovering in the sky, yet the light of the sun is still able to give a good amount of light to the surrounding land. As one travels through the forest, they see that it's not any different from any other forest. Many trees, the sounds of animals coming from distances both near and far, the usual breeze of the incoming spring air passing across the body.

This all sustains until one reaches a part of the forest where fog lingers. Just standing near the barrier of the fog brings about a cold chilling feeling of fear, as if just seeing it brought red alarms up in a person's mind. And then stepping through into the fog, that is when they will hear the gentle sounds of the forest die. A creepy feeling will come into play, where the sounds of crows enter into the melody, along with some other indescribable faint howl hitting into the wind. The color of the grass abd vegetation will look paler in color, the life of it somehow getting drained from it. This was not a normal forest any longer. This felt more like a graveyard.

Click to show.Three ninja would be coming towards the fog, rushing through the forest, leaping from branch to branch of the plentiful trees of the forest. One of which, in the center between the two boys clothed in chuunin flak vests, was Taki, a teal-haired kunoichi, from the Village Hidden in the Leaves.

Taki's natural chakra affiliation was with earth, the plants she possessed being her tools in both life and combat. With her keen sense toward plantlife, she could tell that there was something eerie close by.

She visibly shivered, pulling her red mask up over her mouth and nose, as she held out her hands to let her two teammates know to slow down.

Taki gradually slowed to a stop, taking harbor in the branches of the trees.

The temperature seemed to get colder, not the usual warming temperature for mid-spring. Looking to her teammates for a moment, Taki's gaze hardened towards the fog that was slowly creeping forward, engulfing the forest.

That was what she'd felt. The slow, painful, gradual death of this forest. This would make picking up materials much more difficult. Taki would have to rely on what she brought with her.

Moving forward was now going to be even more of a challenge. It would take Taki a bit more effort to gather her senses from the dying plantlife, but they did need to proceed.

Motioning to her teammates in different trees, she didn't speak. Making noise when they didn't know how close the enemy was was a fool's gamble.

Taki formed her hands in the shape of a triangle, to suggest a formation for them to start proceeding through. She held it upwards, to mean one in the front, and two tailing on the wings of the frontman.

__Thus the Sunagakure member of the squad noticed Taki's apparent eerie feeling for the surroundings. Not that it was suprising him much, since Yamata, being from the deserts of Sunagakure, felt the chill of the fog fairly quickly. Stopping abruptly in the branch of a tree near the tree Taki had stopped on, he observed her motions and the hand formation, nodding lightly. He moved his eyes lightly from Taki to Rikei and back, knowing he or Taki should take the lead. It would, after all, be a tactical fallacy to have a puppetmaster being the front of a formation.

Giving a nod, Rikei quickly took note of Taki's sign and fell back into position, moving behind her and to her right. While Taki took point, she would be able to quickly deliver information to the other two, keeping them up to date and able to react just as quickly. So long as Taki was taking point they could use the strategy of gathering quick and vital information, then utalizing said information when the time was right. All they needed to do was keep their sences sharp.

Rikei would wait until Yamata took his position, then give him a signal indicating that he should watch the left flank while Rikei handles the right flank. Taki could take care of overall activity in the area, as well as all directly in front of them, while Yamata and Rikei shared responcibility of keeping an eye and ear open for their rear. After all, they wouldn't want to be surprised from behind would they?

__Noting Rikei's movement, he quickly moved to align himself in a triangle formation behind and to the right of Taki, no further forward or backward from Rikei. Performing a short series of handsigns, he held his hands out lightly and whispered as lightly as possible, 'Kugutsu no Jutsu'. With that, ten strings of chakra connected each finger and thumb with ten bottle-shaped projectiles attached to the inside of his coat. This was only if necessary, of course.

Holding her hand up for a moment, she signaled forward, as she took off into the lead. Taki was the smallest and youngest of this team of chuunin, and would be the hardest to spot, especially in the thick fog.

The fog seemed to cling heaviest at the ground, so Taki took that route. Focusing her chakra in her feet, the thick roots of the thick forest were still underneath, protected moreso than the fauna above the ground. At least with the roots of the forest all entertwined and connected, she could use her chakra to get a reading of vibrations on the ground or in the trees. It was still a stretch, as Taki tried to moderate how much chakra she'd use to predict oncoming attacks. She focused hers entirely in the front, knowing that Yamata and Rikei had her sides and back. But, while running, Taki's range could only percieve vibrations from about 20-25 yards in front of her.

Swift feet dodged fallen brush so not to create noise, the small feet of the light girl carrying her forward. She'd go about fifty yards, before holding out her hands again to convey to her teammates to slow, as she took cover behind a tree. Kneeling, she put a hand on the ground, feeding her chakra through the roots like a channel, to see if she could sense any vibrations up ahead before moving again. Stopped, she could further her range to the 50 yard ahead span, in a fan-shape in front of her.

The forest was quiet, as she kept her senses alert for any signs of attack that she could have missed.

"You guys can relax," Shikamaru says as he's walking up from out of the fog. Following him was Temari. He didn't have any idea where the other guy was, but he was sure Roen would show up at his own time. But the Nara had more important things to worry about than him.

"Due to the report given to us, this is the least guarded part of the forest, so there shouldn't be anything at least within a hundred yards of us." He comes to a stop. "Group up, and listen up so I can explain what we're going to do."

"No sense in rushing into it," agreed a voice from behind them, letting Shikamaru's temporary teammate add into the group.

Temari had her fan attached to her back as she worked her way though the fog, catching up in stride not far behind Shikamaru as they'd caught up with the other team.

She cast a look back over her shoulder, waiting for the last one that was supposed to be joining them. Seems he was dragging behind a bit.

Not paying much mind to it, Temari's hands situated on her hips, waiting to listen to Shikamaru's directions.

Silent was the Devil as he approached both Temari and her consort Shikamaru. He had nothing to say to either of them at this point in time and was content regardless to listen to what the two of them had to say about the situation. Stopping a good distance away from Shikamaru and Temari, Roen gave himself a final check over. His firearm was strapped to his thigh, cocked and loaded with the safety off. Four clips of black talon rounds where in the holster. On his back was his World Splitter, Hræðilegr; It gleamed in all of its grandeur even in the thick overcast. One last weapon was on his person, strapped to his right arm underneath the sleeve of his leather jacket. The close quarters combat Peskett weapon always came in handy in a tight spot.

As for clothing in general, just casuals. The same fabrics he had left Tsunade's office in. The only difference was the tightly woven vest of spider silk he wore under his pinstripe shirt and leather jacket. Nothing more, nothing less. Content for the most part, the Devil would now turn an attentive ear towards Shikamaru as he began to speak. Let's hear what a Konoha prodigy had to say. Hm,

Taki wasn't able to sense their vibrations, since she was only focusing her chakra forward, expecting Yamata and Rikei to take up the rear.

As she looked back over her shoulder at the new team presenting itself, she took Shikamaru's word for it, seeing two of the ninja widely known around Konoha. A third followed whom she didn't know, but it seemed Temari was expecting him, as he'd listened in on the conversation.

She nudged her head at her teammates, urging them to move in to listen to Shikamaru's directions.

"Allright, but we should make this quick," Taki replied, "Sitting here in a big group when we can't keep a firm location on the enemy is just asking for trouble."

Taki didn't even know how many enemies there were, or their exact location. She didn't have enough information to make her feel comfortable in this job. But that was one of the tasks of the mission, was to find that out.

A twig snapped under his foot, alerting the group of his presence. Virgil stepped around a tree and came closer to the group, his hands placed in his pockets. Realising Shikimaru was talking he decided against speaking out and stopped to listen.

The chuunin pulled his hands from his pocket and folded them over his chest. He stretched out his fingers and rolled his head in a quick circle, awaiting instructions.

With the team assembled, Shikamaru kneels down onto his right knee, removing a kunai from his pouch. With the dirt before them, he begins to draw in it. First, he draws a single circle at the top.

"Alright. First thing's first, we need to come up with a formation. There's nothing worse than being caught unprepared, so I'm going to set us up at least a team formation that'll help us get from point A to point B. Based on the information we have, the base is just one thousand yards to the west of here. Jiraiya is suppose to meet up with us later on, so watch out for him. Now, here's the formation. The front man will be Roen. Since he has the best properties for fighting a front offense, this is where he will be."

Shikamaru draws a circle below the first one.

"Behind him will be me. This will allow me to direct orders to him while keeping a steady communication toward the rest of you." A circle is drawn below the second one. "Behind me will be Takiko. Due to this terrain being her specialty, she will be able to bring offense and defense for the front and the back. Therefore, you are given an important job of being our overseer in this mission, Takiko."

He draws one below it. "Behind Takiko will be Virgil. Just like Roen, you do well as a front offense, only this time, you will be keeping an eye out for us from the rear. And finally, Temari."

Shikamaru stands to his feet, looking toward her with his stoic eyes. From the look he gave her, he was surely noting to her that the task she was going to be given was going to be an important one. And he trusted her, just as the lover he was.

"Temari, you will take the sky and watch from above. If anything you see is notable, you will let us know. Now, headsets."

He pulls his out, placing it over his head. "Our frequency is 221.5, so set it to it and keep it there. It will allow us to keep in touch with one another at all times in case we split up."

"Oi, my two teammates are in this mission, as well," Taki said with her arms crossed. "I'd suggest that Rikei be one of the fronts, with his explosive power will give the team the time to assemble when we approach enemies, since his specialty is both powerful and distracting."

"And Yamata should split the rear with Temari. He can take the ground, staying out of sight in the trees to be able to effectively use his puppets, while Temari utilizes the sky," the teal-haired chuunin pointed out.

She wasn't trying to overstep Shikamaru's position as leader, but was giving helpful suggestion to include the entire team. The three of them were working as a team.

"Is this acceptable?" Taki asked.

But, she still seemed to have a problem with going in one full group. If one person was noticed and got attacked, the entire group could be out of commission, depending on the specifications of the attack. If they split into two teams with a designated rendezvouz point, they could be given the order that if they don't meet up by a certain time, to presume them inable and move on.

However, Taki had made enough suggestions to the leader, even though a slight look of disapproval was apparent on her face. Surely if Shikamaru wanted to consider another idea, then he'd ask her.

"Ehhhh, Wrong."

The dissaproval of one of the party members was quickly identified as a booted foot trampled the plan drawn in the dirt. Quickly erasing this plan, peircing eyes of the man whom had yet to speak up so far would meet the gaze, or more likely, glare of his teammates, yet he didn't care. Only two here were above him in any sort of rank, those two being Temari and the new fellow. Shikamaru was just another Chuunin, and if his plan was idiotic, Rikei was going to tell him so.

"Your plan is rediculous. You propose us to go on a scouting mission with the intent of gathering intelligence and possibly executing an attack with all of us in one big group? What kind of ninja are you? What we need here is stealth and speed, two things that being in one group will utterly destroy. So here's what we're going to do."

Now a new plan would be drawn in the dirt, as Rikei quickly set to work creating a plausible plan. Some elements of Shikamaru's plan would be kept, but he felt that this would be far more effective.

"We have seven members, therefor we split up into two teams. Team one will consist of Myself, Yamata, and Takiko. This combination works wonders, and to be frank, we were fine by ourselves till you got here. Team two will consist of Shikamaru, Temari, Virgil, and that guy. Hello that guy."

Rikei waves at that guy.

"So, team one will advance quickly on the enemy and scout the area. If there are traps, we will disable them. If there are enemies we will eliminate them. Any obstacles that we come across, we will attempt to disable or eliminate, as well as gather any and all intel we can. In other words, we'll clear the path, and you follow.

Team two will be slower, due to the fourth member, and the fellow with the bulking weaponry that is not so discreet. So, while your team may not have the stealth and speed advantages we do, you have more firepower, as well as the task of getting our guest here safely to the destination. Once you get there, you can proceed as planned, and we will attempt to join you so long as we are able.

So, how 'bout you figure out a formation for your team, and you let us do our job, eh?"

Cracking his neck, Rikei would move back to his teammates and prepare to take formation again. They had a job to do, and Rikei wasn't interested in letting others screw it up.
