To say "I love you" in Japanese, you normally say, "daisukidesu" or "aishiteru".
The first word, "daisukidesu," is something you would say to your lover, sister or best friend or about a really good bowl of udon. In this case, "dai," is used to express emphasis. "Suki desu," alone means "I like it." "Dai suki desu," means "I love it." Say that to a person and it means "I love you!"

So, a direct translation might be, "a high amount of love exists." Pretty romantic, eh? wink
"Aishiteru," also means, "I love you." You would only say this to somebody you truly loved completely, your lover or spouse. Japanese people very rarely use this word. Some may never use it in their lives. "Ai," means love. I'm not sure about what "shiteru," means. Does anyone else?
