~ About The Essence ~ “Change alone is eternal, perpetual, immortal.” -Arthur Schopenhauer Phoenix Bird LoreThe lore surrounding the Phoenix bird has countless variations, with some of the earliest accounts dating back to eight centuries before the birth of Christ. The greek version of the bird traditionally lives near a cool well which it visits each morning to bathe and sing. It is a stunningly beautiful bird with an entrancing song, captivating enough to make even the Sun stop to listen. If the Phoenix is injured, it can heal itself and enjoy a life span of 500 to more than 1000 years. When the Phoenix reaches the end of its life, it’s said to build itself a nest of aromatic spices such as cinnamon and myrrh. It then sets the nest and itself on fire and is burned to ashes. Shortly, the Phoenix rises again and begins its life anew. In some traditions, the new Phoenix gathers up the ashes of the old and takes them to Heliopolis to offer them to the Sun God. the Egyptians called it a Benu, and the Benu symbolises rebirth, as it rises from its ashes like a new sun rises when the old has died. It also symbolises a new period of wealth and fertility, when the Nile flooded the earth each year. In Japan, as earlier in China, the mythical Phoenix was adopted as a symbol of the imperial household, particularily the empress. This mythical bird represents fire, the sun, justice, obedience, and fidelity. they call it a Ho-oo According to legend (mostly from China), the Ho-oo appears very rarely, and only to mark the beginning of a new era -- the birth of a virtuous ruler, for example. In other traditions, the Ho-oo appears only in peaceful and prosperous times (nesting, it is said, in paulownia trees), and hides itself when there is trouble. As the herald of a new age, the Ho-Oo decends from heaven to earth to do good deeds, and then it returns to its celestial abode to await a new era. It is both a symbol of peace (when it appears) and a symbol of disharmony (when it disappears). Mythical Abilities- The tendency to inspire creativity and hope with its beautiful appearance and song. - The ability to heal mortal wounds with its tears. - The ability to heal itself, either spontaneously or through cremation and rebirth. - The ability to disappear, sometimes with a flash of light or sudden blast of flame that is unlike the blaze that marks the beginning of a new life. - To burn people at a distance, or let you touch it's fiery feathers unharmed (control heat/fire) Reference Pictures: [ x] [ x] [ x]

~ About Aidan ~ “Be glad today. Tomorrow may bring tears. Be brave today. The darkest night will pass. And golden rays will usher in the dawn.” -Sarah Knowles Bolton
Name: Aidan Meaning: little fire in irish. (actually, it's an anglicized form of Aodhán, from the old irish Áedán, a pet form of Áed, which meant fire ._. )Dust/essence: Phoenix Feather Gender: male skin: a light brown/tanned skin tone Eyes: bright gold / red Hair: a dark fiery mix of reds and oranges (maybe in this style? )[x] [x]Appearance: Aidan is a tall, tanned individual with sharp features and a piercing gaze. He is distinctively handsome and would stand out in a crowd even without his most defining feature, a pair of shimmering gold/scarlet wings that seem in certain lights to be made of actual flames. Complementing his wings, his hair seems light and feather-like, helped by the fact that he tends to keep them out of his face with a headband.
(I haven't thought of an outfit yet. ^^; I kind of see something with golden edges/designs...but I don't really care ATM )
Personality: Despite his somewhat stern appearance he is dramatic and energetic, with tons of charisma and a graceful air that causes most people to like him very quickly upon meeting him, or else quickly become annoyed with him. He is attracted to change, action and movement, and gets bored pretty easily. Though he seems open at first glance, he hold a part of himself aloof from others, and acts dramatic to hide his true feelings about people and situations. In truth, he feels that if he didn't laugh at some things he might cry, and that if he isn't running about he'll spend too much time worrying about things. He rushes into acting without thinking things all the way through, because he feels that if he paused and thought about problems he'd get too caught up in all the possibilities and not act at all.
His love of drama and change is deeply rooted in his personal reasons for wanting to protect the human race, as he sees no other creature with more of it. he has a general distrust of most people. Not necessarily due to any anger towards them, and not because he doesn't care about them, but simply because he is aware that many people are fairly selfish. However If a truly serious situation arose he would drop everything to help whoever was in trouble, disregarding his personal like or dislike of them. If he does like you, he is deeply loyal, and fears anything bad happening to those he loved, so he would do everything in his power to keep them safe from harm.
Note on the personality: there's no real info on phoenix personalities, except implications that go with it's 'healing powers' or maybe basing it off harry potter. XP So instead I decided if there'd be one problem with being an immortal creature like a phoenix it'd be a) watching things you care about leave/age/die, and b) getting bored. once you do everything and know everything, whats the point? If things are changing there's something new to interest yourself in, life would feel more worthwhile. since his life is just starting though, I'm just translating it to him being somewhat impatient.

Other: Rynn is a quiet, studious person, with a love for both science, and the mysterious and out-of-the ordinary. She recently moved out of her parent's house into her own, to work with her long-time friend who joined a small theater group. Though not an actor herself, she works backstage with lighting and props, and gets to watch free shows when she isn't working. She spends her free time and extra money buying various books, about a variety of subjects, with a strange collection of technical science books and fantasy. The CatName: Cael Gender: male Color: black Likes: milk, ribbons/string and clawing Rynn to wake her up in the morning. Dislikes: dogs, being woken up when he’s sleeping, having his tail pulled. Other facts: Cael is Rynn's pet and companion. She found him abandoned on the street as a kitten and saved him, intending to find him a good home. To her dismay, when she tried to give him away several times, he ran away and found his way back to her, so she resigned herself to taking care of him. In truth, she loves him to bits, and was secretly thrilled when he returned.

Some Random Notes:
[x] Aidan's bottle could be lit up first, and then dim in the dust spin stage. (with ashes spinning around it or something) I thought this might represent how a phoenix burns and then begins life from the ashes. (first and second stage) -maybe a flame could appear briefly before it changes to the third stage?
[x] since a phoenix is connected to the sun, he could be brightest at sunrise and dimmest at night. (first stage)
[x] He'll be a morning person D:
Some battle ideas: (see: About the Essence > mythical abilities, every one is based off one of those listed.) not going to be too defined here. I just don't want to forget. e_e
I think he'd be a defensive support character. possible ability 1: He could have a song-based ability that increases other's speed for a few turns. possible ability 2: a healing ability of some sort, through song or... I don't know. crying randomly would be weird. possible ability 3: the ability to heal himself. (could be part of 2. or some sort of all around group-heal) possible ability 4: an ability that increases his own speed greatly for one turn with a blast of light? (a dodge ability) possible ability 5: some sort of heat/fire based attack.
Possible ability 6: something to do with flying? an aerial attack or something?
just listing random ideas here. What do you think? Namikaze Player Name; Namikaze Dust Name; Aidan Dust Essence; Phoenix Feather Dust Personality; Dramatic, easily exited, and playful, he is quick to charm and inspire others with his charisma and quick wit. However it is half a facade to keep people from knowing the real him, and to hide his uncertainty. Despite his teasing and jokes, he has a kind nature and wants people to be safe and happy. Dust Appearance; Tall, slender and elegant looking, he has sharp features and a piercing golden colored gaze. He has red/flame colored hair and tanned skin. (and wings maybe? *hinthint* or some sort of wing design on his clothes or markings on his arms or something. I know it's a semi custom, so I'm not going to add wings officially... ) Special Abilities; Aidan has a very flashy ability. He can cause flames to spring up around him, which is not only harmless to those he likes, or wants to protect, but can even heal minor wounds, and energize them. if someone he doesn't like is touched by the flames, they will behave just like a regular fire and burn them. edit: oh, and I guess Aidan can't heal himself... xD for the hell of it: quest thread from the semi-custom contest :3
