Heh. Sorry, couldn't resist.
I'd just like to take a moment and use this space to rant about the lack of flowershop exchange items. Is it just me, or does anyone else feel like the bouquets are overpriced and unimaginative? I mean, the sunflower one doesn't even let you use more than one flower! Geez, come on, Gaia. Get with the picture. Anyone know a good petition thread that focuses on this topic? I'm sure we, the users, could come up with *loads* more exchange item ideas.

We totally feel your pain about those dull, dull bouquets!! stare Way too many of us have hundreds of flowers lying around and don't want to spend the fortune to get them made into single color bouquets. After all, you can only hold one at a time! A great many of us have made such comments and have offered some cool suggestions. So I'm thinking that if there isn't already a petition thread on the subject...WE should do it.
Here's what I'll do: I'll browse around what others have already said and jot down all their ideas to post all together. That way we'll have everything in one spot. Sound good?!
How many Gaians do you think we could really get to join the petition?

There may be a Flower Bouquet petition existing!! One of our members started one (we think) and we are waiting to hear for sure. But until then, here's a few thoughts that other people had:
-more than one kind of flower in bouquet (mix and match)
-more than one color of flower " "
-more colors of flowers
-more types " "
-use ink to dye flowers different colors
-more than one sunflower bouquets
-use flowers to make headbands or necklaces
-make flower vase arrangements for house
Here's a few thoughts:
You cannot exchange flowers for money in the shops correct? So really they are worth...nothing. So why is a bouquet upwards of 100 gold? When really, you have to have the dye for the paper and the flowers to do it.
It would seem, that if you already had collected/bought the flowers and collected/bought the dye, making a bouquet would be free or...cheaper anyway. Making collected paper into hats doesn't cost anything. Lets just face it...its stupid. And there is nothing else for us to do with the left over flowers.

I did a quick run-through of the Petitions forum, and I found a couple that want to change the flower exchange too: What Can We Do With Game ItemsThe Flower Fields PetitionI think starting our own would be a good idea, since these seem to be either broader than what we're going for, or more specific, but it's promising to know that there are other people on the site who feel the same way. As for how to change the exchange.... The admins probably wouldn't go for new items (unless we really convinced them) because that would be the most difficult (but completely worth it, if you ask me). The easiest thing to do would be to A) cut the prices of the bouquets, because it seems to be a consensus that they're way overinflated, and B) let us use more than one type of flower in a bouquet, which can't be more difficult than re-coloring some of the old files. (I'd be willing to bet some Photoshop-proficient people could whip up a sample or two in a matter of hours.) But that's just my $.02.

And a brilliant two-cents it was! But I wonder if we aren't thinking about this all wrong. Even if we just asked for the bouquets to be cheaper or to use more than one kind of flower...wouldn't we still find the bouquets boring after a short time? They still have only one decent use.
I chatted with Urbeth and she came up with something interesting.
What if there were stages of items depending on how many flowers we had. For example:
1-50 flowers: made into bouquets (up to 50 flowers in one)(multi-colored or multi-flower type)
100 flowers: made into multi-colored flower headbands (similar to the fire flower wreath)
100+ flowers: could be used to make a necklace and/or wristband combo
And so on. Of course we would need to come up with ideas for each "stage". Definitely something at the 1000 or 5000 level.
How would this solve the problem? Well, it would certainly give people a wider use for the flowers. And those that sell flower bouquets may find more business in having items needing more than 1000 flowers.
If we come up with some ideas for all the stages and have everything thought through really well, we may have a better chance of selling our idea to the admins. (We may be able to get the person who started the "Flower Fields" petition to join us if we make her idea the top stage!)
Is this complete crazy talk? I don't know. But I think if we are going to put the effort into changing the flower usage, we might as well make it worth it. Tell me what you think!

That's no crazy talk! I'd go for it. Or what about 200 same colour flowers or 500 different colour flowers and making a 'falling/pile of leaves' effect but with flowers instead.

I had a thought about our stages of flower items. What if you are the type of person that doesn't really care for bouquets and headbands. You are still going to have a bunch of worthless flowers lying around. What if we did two separate groups of items? The Nice Flowery Side and the Ferocious Side! What kind of items am I talking about? How about Proxy5/ElectricLoki's idea of "covered in Kudzu" where your whole avatar was was engulfed in vines. What about a "nettle sword" that caused your skin to have red rashes. How about some "thorny armor" for battle. I'm sure we could come up with some more ideas. But what do you think? Would that get us some attention from the less flowery type of people? "Bur grenades?" Huh? Huh?! 3nodding

Ok, well after looking at what these other petitions are doing, the only other things that I can add to the discussion is possibly coming up with a more complete list of ideas of plant/flower/etc related items to suggest for Gaia to decide to use and possibly have some people draw up concept sketches. Maybe entering these ideas into one of Gaia's new item-design contests would make Gaia a bit more aware.
I think that Gaia has increased the number of plant-ish items since last summer, but I also think that spending more time on the items we already have collected would help jump start the flower market (and other markets) and make these items more desired and useful. As nice as the new items are, not everyone can afford them and having an inventory full of what can be considered "useless" items are really doing no good for anyone.
Here is another thought that I had, what if we could use all those old quest items (i.e. the orphan food and toys) up to make special or rare items? Because once the quest is disabled the left over items are completely useless but nothing else can be done with them except sell them for 1pg if you are lucky.

It's certainly true that those old quest items should have some other use. (I hate it when you have to buy a bunch of stuff for a quest and then the prize at the end is not worth half of what you spent...[stupid Liam!! mad ])
As far as coming up with a complete list of plant related items...I was hoping to have our next guild contest be exactly that: design some plant items for our future petition. Do you think that would be a fun contest?!
