How You Can Survive the Upcoming...
Economic Depression in the US
* Don't trust a bank.
* Don't trust the government to do anything for you - they won't.
* Be very conservative about changing jobs.
* Avoid getting into debt.
You might think that the US economy is quite stable. You'd be wrong. The over-sized military budget is slowly eating up what little is still in the coffins. That in itself is bad enough, but let's not forget about about the bad loan situation (or the fact that most people spend more money than they earn).
The economy would be in trouble without a war, and the rest of the world is rapidly loosing faith in the dollar. The social security system is close to non-existent, politicians only care about getting re-elected and the minimum wages are too low to live off of. This, people, is one of the best recipes for disaster I've seen. Ever. I won't blame you for moving to Canada.
If you want to know how bad the 1930's depression was, do some research.
Depressions can bring opportunities for those with disposable cash on hand. Land values fall as there is no demand, and you could sell it when the economy is better. (Assuming it does get better.)
If you're not in a position to buy things, talk to your friends and relatives and establish a survival plan where you move in together and pool your resources for the common good. (Communism doesn't sound so bad when you're starving.)
Keep a very healthy supply of canned goods on hand - the Mormon practice of a one year supply of food is a very good idea when things are getting rough. Keep an eye on expiration dates; rotate the stock.
If you live in heavily populated urban areas - expect large scale riots. Keep a weapon for self protection with a healthy supply of ammo. Don't expect the police to be of a lot of help. You'll have to fend for yourself.
