I would like to discuss Excalibur. It seemed that only the rightful king could pull the sword from the stone, but if Arthurs hands were cutoff and used to grasp the sword, could it still be pulled? just a little query

Pirate_Pimp I would like to discuss Excalibur. It seemed that only the rightful king could pull the sword from the stone, but if Arthurs hands were cutoff and used to grasp the sword, could it still be pulled? just a little query no because it wasnt just arthurs hands.....it was the blood of the one true holder of excalibur....if the blood wasnt running through the hands then no one would have pulled the sword from the stone

I like the way you analysed it, Clew. Well thought out. I, however, never understood what exactly Excalibur was supposed to do for Arthur's fighting. If I remember the legend, it made it so he would not bleed, but it has been depicted as guiding his actions in some movies and remakes of the story. I can't remember the original very clearly. Does any body happen to have a theory of exactly wherein the end lies in that?

Excalibur is an entirely different sword to that in the stone.
The sword in the stone was a sign of his kingship, but then he broke it, so decided to seek out a more powerful sword. Excalibur was given to him by the lady in the lake, under the terms that he would return it upon his death.
Excalibur itself supposedly glowed with light as he drew it, blinding his enemies, and its sheath prevented woulds from being fatal, or in some tellings, from bleeding at all.

there is a sword that was made by the lady of the lake's sister. it is the sword of steel while Excalibur is the sword of stone. it is also the sword of Darkness. It is called Caliburn. Caliburn was created like Excalibur to make sure that the forces of good and evil were equal. Caliburn can talk to the darkest most evil place with in your soul for that reason it is welid by evil morethan good.

Thor's hammer is Mjolnir. I'm not sure if the Spear of Longinus would be discussed here. There's Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi which Susanoo found by killing Orochi and is part of the Imperial Regalia of Japan.

Durendal, the unbreakable blade of the paladin Roland. Known to be just as powerful and godsend as the Excalibur. Holding in it's golden hilt, the tooth of Saint Peter, blood of Saint Basil, hair of Saint Denis, and a piece of the raiment of the Blessed Virgin Mary, this sword is one of the great legendary yet unspoken of as such.
Legend says it was mixed with Joyeuse to make the great Curtana.
