I had just finished labeling and organizing the prop table when we got the news: one of our actors had skipped school and, as punishment, had been pulled from the play. His sister was our soundboard operator. Because they live in the next town over, both of them ended up getting pulled from the play. Our back-up for the soundboard had to take over the actor's position. And thus, I was drafted.
It was 3 days until the show opened when this happened. THREE DAYS. Needless to say, I was terrified of screwing up. I'd had no prior experience to working with the equipment. Luckily, I had an amazing mentor, as well as a wonderful stage manager. Everything went well enough, even though there were a few minor mistakes. The audience didn't even notice, though.
And now I'm addicted to working the sounds.
