The Guardian-to-Be
Meet Leonore.

Leonore Pasteur is not a native of Amies, but has lived there the past year. She does odd-jobs around town, usually jobs that rely on lifting, moving, and throwing. Which explains why she's often found down at the harbor, working among the more permanent dock workers. When she's not doing odd jobs, she can be found singing or dancing, once again usually in the harbor area. Leonore is treated as 'one of the guys', since she can hold her own despite her small size and seemingly frail build.
Leonore is a bit scatterbrained and never seems to stay still. It's surprising to those that know her that she would stay in Amies, but she's constantly told them that something has drawn her here...There is no such thing as coincidence. She's also mercurial in nature. One moment she can be jovial and cheery, another her temper will flare, and yet another she'll be perfectly calm. The upside: she doesn't hold grudges and doesn't stay depressed for long. She's got her own strange set of ethics, and her own sense of honor...which doesn't always jive with others.
She loves dancing and singing, and doesn't always need human-made music...sometimes she'll just dance and sing with the winds.
Leonore is part of an order called "The Windborn." Based in a monastery on a small island on the other side of the continent, The Windborn have been around for a thousand and one years, and have remained small in number. Why? Because not all can think as they do. The Windborn are like the wind...free, flowing, and unpredictable, always changing, gentle yet strong. The Windborn live in the moment...and only a few things stay as memories. Their names, sometimes their families, the location of the monastery...and the Prophecy.
The order was founded on a prophecy of the humans' doom. But it was not to defeat that which would strike at the humans, it was to help ensure the safety of that which would save the humans. At first, the order had the support of the towns near it, fearing for their lives. But as time passed and nothing happened, the order was forgotten. But the order knew better. The divine did not think like mortals. Time was not the same for them. And so the order has waited....
And now The Windborn have been scattered across the world, in search of those they must safeguard until the time comes. Of course...many will simply find nothing or watch over those watching over. But they're very aware: they are only human, and there is only so much they can do against the will of gods.
