Sometimes I go to watch a series with very low expectations, only to be surprised by it. Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei was like this. After watching the first few episodes, I wasn't very impressed. It was to erratic and I hated having to miss the background jokes in order to pay attention to the subtitles and vice versa. After it got voted in to the anime club, I decided to stay and give it a second chance. I glad I did, because I wound up liking it a lot. I also hated the first few episodes of Demonbane. Too much comedy and not enough action, however after episode 5, the series picked up in character development and giant robot battles.

I was surprised when i first started watching "higirashi no naku koro ni(when they cry)" I'd thought it was gonna be some cute anime, though i was very wrong, and not in the least dissapointed. The anime began with a bang, and didnt stop for more then half an episode. The only other two animes that surprised me were "Elfien Lied", and "His and Her Circumstances", both are very good animes, and well worth the money i payed for them.

Elfen Lied really caught me off guard. I knew it was incredibly violent, but only after watching, did I realize why people were so hesitant to put it into the a single genre. It's not totally action because of the whole romance/wacky harem hijinks, which is also why it isn't really a full horror anime, either. I've heard stories about peoples' experiences with Higureshi. The second season supposed provides the "questions" answered by the first season. Now everyone who watched season 1 a while has to go back and watch it again in order to understand season 2.

Im very much looking forward to season two, yet im unsure if its all out yet. I became engrossed in a few other animes since i watched higirash no naku koro ni, so ive not taken the time to look into the second season. If its anywhere near as good as the first, then im going to have to watch it soon.

Clannad kind of suprised me. High School dramas are not my cu]p of tea, but the animation and story were so good I got sucked in.

i was really surprised by denno coil. i thought it would be just a slice of life show but it ended up having a much different feel and much deeper meaning.

I'm really surprised by the original Fist of the North Star. There's an actual plot eek ! I thought it just be all mindless violence, but I was wrong. There's violence and, so far, a couple of story arcs. I'm pretty excited to see where they went with it.

Yeah Fist got me too. I tuned into one of the OVAs (or was it an ODA?) for some good, old-fashioned, gratuitous violence, and I was surprised to find an actual plot. I mean I expected like a theme or a goal like Pokemon, but not something with actual substance.

I need to see more Hetalia for it to grow on me. I've only read a couple of the strips (?, can't remember the name for the 4 panel, or so comic strip style).
