So how about a live in person game of chess? Where we could in a sense "cosplay" our chess pieces. Like we do here on Gaia just in the real world! I think this would be spiffy!

I don't know how many of you actually live anywhere near each other so please do share (original idea was to put all 50 states plus an option for outside US on a poll but there aren't nearly enough options for it so this will have to do.

So here's a link to a youtube video of a Metrocon in 2007 that they cosplayed anime characters and played chess. I though this was great because they actually had the pieces fight (it was a skit). So maybe we could do something like that... just not nearly as dramatic biggrin

There's actually a lot of history behind human chess here's an excerpt from one website I found.

"In 1454 in the small town of Marostica, which is located in the province of Vicenza, a game of chess was performed between two noble knights. This was no ordinary game of chess. The game was performed in the town's main square, which was paved to resemble a giant checkerboard. Each knight had people dressed to represent the various chess pieces and they carried a white or black ensign.

The human chess game was the idea of Taddeo Parisio the Lord of the Marostica castle. He did this because Rinaldo D'Angarano and Vieri da Vallonara, the two knights, where in love with his beautiful daughter Lionora and they had challenged each other to a duel for Lionora's hand in marriage. Parisio did not want to lose either of the knights, so he forbade any duel to take place. Instead he ordered the knights to play a game of chess in the town square using people as the chess pieces. Each knight would call out their move and the people would move according to the instructions of each knight. The winner of the chess match would have the honor of taking Lionora's hand in marriage while the loser would marry Lionora's younger sister Oldrada. To complicate things more Lionora was secretly in love with one of the two knights. Would the knight of her dreams prevail in this match? So as new as this might be to us the game of human chess is actually pretty historic! So why don't we join in the fun some how and make Gaia REALLY come to life? Eh? Sounds like fun eh?

So tell me where you live and what you think about this and if you are really set on doing PM about helping out. biggrin I don't know if anyone's noticed yet or not but I like to plan things biggrin

I've got a few crazy friends, I'll have to ask them. Not sure one of them even knows how to play chess XD.

well for one ting... let me think..... i dont know of any places we could do that except at like mabie a miniture golf core( sometimges they have one humansize) or make our own in a comunity center somewere around there...

and lastly this a far fetched idea.... way.... out there... someone could look up and check into mabie booking a vacation somewere we could meet? ex... cruse line... theme park.... vacation spots... and we would all agree to pay( yea that sucks) or ask to do it... i could bring my brothers nice video camera and we could do a skit roleplay n vacation area ( this is way out there but a way to meet) ninja ninja i need a excuse to get away from my job anyhow 3nodding xd xd
