Every bit of information I can scour about Tien Lung, Lucius blahblahbler.
PostPosted: Fri Mar 07, 2008 3:26 pm

original description of Tien Lung from Ivy back when I bought the gem:

Quote:
Dragon of the sky and castle, his duties are to ensure none enter or leave the presence of the throne without his knowledge. He specifically served those deities that dealt with the sky as their emissary to Mang. Tien's duties were also to ensure the all the celestial goings on (the lighting of the stars, the paths of planets, the type of clouds formed for the day).
His powers are focussed on creating forcefields. His power served as the gate that sealed the realm of teh gods from the realms of the mortals. His powers also kept the wars of teh god, and the sheer power of those affairs, from damaging the mortal realms. (almost like the protective barriers in the X movie)

It doesn't have to be acted upon, but the planned character history is that he was teh friend, guard and confidant of Universe.

He cannot create any of the celestial bodies, he just helped with organization and running. His powers are, as I noted, barrier based. Without him, the magics of the gods would have run rampant on the mortal realms. Also, assault that may get past Chien the general must then wear down his barriers and scales to even enter the Throne.

It is so far undetermined in my mind if Universe+Celestial dragon = other lesser celestial godlings such as Star, Rainbow, Cloud, etc.

notes to self:
serving deities that deal with the sky? Lucius (Universe), Itztlac (Night), Tilion (Lunar)... Beryl (Wind)?

“Nintu!”

Light shifted along the carpet of grass, then over great fields of moss as the thin legs ran along and pounded small feet towards the base of the World Tree. It was best nearest the tree, where light barely filtered down in greens and gold through the canopy of leaves and limbs. The roots twisted like the braids of Mother’s hair, and were just as numerous.

She was there, cradled against the trunk and seated on an outgrowth of roots that looked like a throne. Her legs were dappled in the light, pale peach against the silvery brown bark. She was resting, some gathering of material on her lap beneath her hands. Universe called again, still running with the unsteady balance of abandon, “Nintu!” Mother looked over, her eyes were gentle, if startled, and shining more green when she recognized the voice.

“Nintu, the light, the light speaks…it is in me…”

“Oh course it is. It is shining over everything it can, and what is not in me is in you.”

“But it speaks .” The little eyes became saucers with the emphasis of the word.

“Why should it not?” Gaia gathered her First onto her lap, paying no mind to the project there. “Tell me what it says.”

“It wants a shape, it says it wants to be, not just Be. Can I give it a shape? “

“Maybe. How would you give something shape that was in you?”

“I ……don’t know….how did You give shape? You made me. You make everything.”

“Not everything…” She blushed, “And not always alone. Your father and I together make many things. ”

“How do you make things together? Do I need father to make things together with me?”

“Not necessarily in the same manner, no.” She laughed. Universe pouted, uncertain of why. “Why not with light itself?”

Universe’s eyes widened again, “I will gather all the light in me, then, and try.” Gaia chuckled, “Of course, my love, of course.”

* * * * * * *
“I know not what to make of it, Mother.”

“Is it so awful?”

“I-, “Universe paused, looking into the mirror of the vanity that it sat at. Bright, heavy-lashed eyes gazed back, lined slightly at the edges with sleeplessness. “I don’t know. He comes often to mountaintops or asteroids and calls for my company. I don’t know what to make of it.”

“Is it wrong that someone should seek to be your friend?” Gaia came up behind her child’s shoulders, reaching over briefly to retrieve her ivory brush. She set to taming the cobalt, gold and indigo mane. Touch had a way of calming her firstborn, of forcing it’s attention and focus to the present. Humanizing, as much as it could be humanized. It was a secret she would, perhaps, have to share with the Dragon who had only just moments before sought her counsel in those same chambers. The same Dragon who was hiding, lest he be discovered, in her servants room with his ear pressed against the door. As long as she could keep her child distracted, which seemed simple enough from the state of it, it would not notice or think to locate the Dragon’s exact location. “Shaiming is one of the Kings, wise and great, he would make a good friend. “

“But the things he says, and how he says them. I do not think it is just my friendship he searches for. “
“What do you mean?”

Universe paused again, looking at Mother’s eyes in the reflection of the mirror. “There are so many compliments, earnest ones. But he feels like he is being truthful, or at least he believes what he is saying. I feel like hiding when he speaks such things. My cheeks burn bright and I lose what replies I have…they just vanish from my tongue. “
“Is he insulting you then? Why don’t you smite him then, or why do you not seek your Father’s counsel for his punishment?”

“No! No, no…Mother, I…” Universe’s cheeks lit with vibrant red starlight. “He says nothing wicked. Nothing to be punished for, unless it is to make me feel strange and awkward. To make my chest hurt.”
“I see, “She put down the brush, loudly enough as though it may be a signal to the Dragon behind the door to listen. “Your chest hurts? Always?”

“No…only when I think of him.”
* * *

Lucius lifted his head from his folded arms on the sill of the arch. The recessed window seat was not very comfortable after enough hours, but he didn’t feel like moving. “Gaia.”

What had been he hopes in coming to him without revealing her nature? Had the weight fallen heavier having discovered their connection on his own? He didn’t really consider it as much a discovery a sudden epiphany. Why had he been reborn before her? Why was he fully restored, while she languished, half-mortal, in some foreign form and mind. Her frustration had been real enough. How it must be strange for that girl, that impudent street girl, to feel anything, let alone protective guidance or disappointment, in him. How she had flown from his room...not literally, but the urge had been plain enough. He knew too closely the urge himself, to not see it. His heart urged him two ways. Something deep screamed at his brain to stand, to find her and kneel before her. Take her hands and kiss them, begging pardon.

The other half was resentful. He had been so long without memory, any recollection at all, that she dared to feel righteous that he should fall in love at all with Harmodius. How could any not? He was not born of their union in this life. Everything was different now. Did the past even matter? It did...more before when he hadn’t known it then now.

No, I haven’t decided how I feel regarding that yet.

Angry thoughts that led to nowhere but more anger and bitterness.

But the love was still there, stranger now for memory, but alive. He could think of it as incest now. Unsurprising behavior among gods as that was, vestiges of what was passed on to him of his host made it carnal, revolting and tantalizing all at the same time. Foxes were not known to split hairs over familial lineage in cases of rarity. They had been the only two, for so long. After that time there had been Gianfar, tempting but not much present, and Byrne, impossible to communicate with on a deep level. What choice had there been but the hero-worship of the quiet, stunning Eldest that had brought them all forth from nothing?

Perhaps justification mattered little anymore. He’d been over it a thousand times in his own head, let alone the explanations to others. Gaia would not care to hear more of it anyway. She had come, gotten her answers, been horrified and left. He would receive no more care from her then from Harmodius himself. At least she could not easily attempt to sew anything else of his. He wondered bleakly if it would be his eyes or mouth, or if it would involve sewing at all. Perhaps just the removal of certain appendages.

But where did it all leave him? She would not look forward to seeing him again. And if they met? Maybe she’d at least get a little joy, from somewhere in the recesses of her memory of yonder ages, that he was listening some and was out and about again to be meeting anyone on the street.

Features of note: Pre-fading Universe was unisex/asexual, unlike Lucius being male. Being a primodial, Universe wasn't attuned to specific emotion either, its feelings were more raw and less defined passions, which distressed it. Tien Lung was a grounding force to Universe, bringing it closer to mortals. Universe brought passion and serendipity to the Dragon, who was so mired in circumstance and Law as to be dry and wilted as mortal courts.
Before they became lovers, Universe rarely took on bodily form and Tien Lung almost never took time to stop and smell the roses.

Quote:
“Will you be gone long?”
The words just hung there, neither eaten by the true vacuum beyond the Galleria, nor answered. Universe waited, impatient, as the seconds passed into minutes, staring at the dragon’s coils. “Will it be LONG, Tien Lung.”
Starscale shuddered; his lover did not often use his crown-name, which meant it was worried. He set down the great cargo they had prepared together to send out to the reaches; the Gallery had incredible stores of food, medicines, riches and raw materials. Universe had no temples, few needs, and many admirers. Travelers and ships from every reach came to pay homage, or hope to earn a smile from the starlit deity. Tien Lung did his best to quell the hoard jealousy and stab of lifelong-mate instinct when mortals gazed so on what was his. “I do not know, Fair One. All is in turmoil, your Father and Mother call. She is fallen, he cannot revive her. My brothers and I must be the pillars within you both, to give you new bones. Help the people. “

”These things I know,” Universe’s eyes lowered, stars tamed as jewels on silver leashes dangled from elaborate weave in daybreak hair. There were shadows there, something his androgynous star was hiding, Tien Lung decided.

”You harbour secret against me; you need not carry it alone. Try, lover. “

It looked back up at the dragon, searching. Emotion never came easy, half the problem in their confusing, mortal bends. Foreign to the remote expanse of what Was. As difficult as the word and concept “I”.

Shudders ran through the slim shoulders and Tien Lung extended out a clawed foot, curled it gently around the slender back and wings as support. “You grow weaker as well. Your concentration has been thinned, you cry out in respite…wounded. I have noted these things. “

”Would not trouble you so, but for the fear...it is strange, choking. It clouds the mind, weak to mortals’ flight or fight. Harmodius will beckon me to come, if he learns for certain, do not tell him. His focus must be on the Empress and the others. They are in greater peril, further gone. The Universe must be held together, or the magic of the gods will disperse as particles of dust in solar winds. I..” Universe paused, tone fading to a whisper, “Do not be gone overlong, Tien Lung. As magic comes out of me, it does not replenish. I will not be able to make the distance to the crown halls when the time truly comes for Him to worry. “

The dragon lowered his muzzle, flicking out his tongue to be caught and drawn into space within all space in deepest kiss. However small the physical form looked, Universe ever surprised him, taking all of him in in celebration. Space filled. Dazzles of solar arches licked along his lover’s limbs, and the dragon hesitated, torn for just a moment between immediate duty and the other option presented him. Only his love could elicit such hesitation, and Tien Lung gave a great rumbling chortle and purr as he set Universe on the marble platform again. “You tease me.”

Universe smiled. “I do.”

Lucius NPC solo, 10/30/07 - link

Crispin, that boy that harboured the Dragon King, had been gone for days. Weeks, even. Water had not been home in some time, which the deity thought better of in his current state. He had not moved from his alcove, hidden away in darkness and thought. As far as he felt, he could stay there until the final end of time and remain dissatisfied.

Was it better or worse to have wishes granted? He wasn’t certain anymore, having strived since the first nights if his bonding with his host to remember a past that may or may not matter. But it felt like it was significant, and always had. He had felt lonely, and was now alone. There had been pain then, now there was pain always.

But now, he could remember. Not everything was clear, but celluloid flashes of old film strained though his mind and played against the back of his eyes. His mind was some old, penny-operated, haunted theater come to life in the corners of a sick circus thanks to deliberate payments.
Quote:

“How did you manage it?”

“It is a secret.”

“Lies, there are no secrets beneath the sky. Nothing is kept from the view of the heavens, from the winds in the air, the emptiness that fills everything that is not the Children or the Gods.”

“Or the Void?”

“You wax somber. You know what I meant”

The dragon chuckled, his whiskers whipping in delight.

Universe frowned, “That was a trick. You would be wiser to not make me feel the fool.”

“Else?”

Shaiming was not graced with a verbal answer. The starlight deity’s flesh looked to lose its edges, shifting to something like a vapor of glitter and shadow, flame and ice, then was gone. The Dragon King rose in surprise, lashing his tail as he snuffled the abandoned divan. “Where have you gone, my stars?”

“Such brazen claims...’my’. What makes you think you can own me? You cannot find me, cannot sense me apart from what I am. Can you own what you cannot hold in your claw?”

The dragon stiffened, bristling his whiskers and mane as the words trickled down from hundreds of stars into his ears. “I do not need to hold you in my claws, though I would be honoured enough to be allowed. You wear my gift…..so you give me your hand and heart in return? Is this not hold enough, to claim you?”

“Be you in form enough to?”

A shudder ran along the scales of the King, hearing those words. “If you be, I shall meet you….shall cross swords with you. “

Arching comets, like arms, pet along serpentine flanks, “Meet with me.”

* * * * *

“You cannot just leave them to rot!”

“It is what happens to flesh. It rots. Things die. That is not of my doing, or my element. I am not life or death. It is neither mine to mete out their thin lives, measure or hold them in my hands, guide them or worry for them.”

“But it IS. They look to you for favor, for guidance...what else but you is night and light, is constant and changes, that can be relied on for ages and ages of their reckoning? You are the greatest thing they now, more then your mother or father...for you they can see no edges of, false or not. Land ends in water, motherhood ends when blood ceases to flow, and the Crown....he is too abstract to even grasp. But you...you my love, they need only look up at the sky and they see ever your sweet form, perfect...flawless. Clothed in star or cloud, sunset rays or moon bow rings. You are the Prince of our kind, with so many of the others paying only homage to you in their petty designs. “

“You try flattery.”

“Flattery is lies to convince to action, “Shaiming roared, tossing his head and horns violently. How dare Universe, to call him liar! “Except the Empress, you are the next all encompassing thing! It is nature to look to the greatest of things for wisdom! For help! Help the mortals that speak names for you!”

“I want no names, wish no followers.”

“You have them! Whether you accept them or not, you are already bound to them.”

“How could it be so, without my consent?”

“Consent!? I have seen consent enough already in that you are content to hear their voices! You hear them. If you would just listen to the words, I would be well pleased.”

“Then is it for their sake, or your happiness?”

“What does it matter?” The incredulity was plain in the dragon’s roar. How could this creature be so selfish? This deity do nothing to harm or heal those that crossed or praised it? So REMOVED, as if there were such a choice in the Pantheon? “Would it sway you to some responsible action to know for which I argue? What if it is both? Or neither? Can you not weigh my words on merit alone?”

“I can, but I don’t understand them. What drives you so passionately for these things that walk below me? Why should I be stirred? They exist, whether I interfere with them or not. They are born, love, die, and move on to the Otherlands regardless. What concerns you so much that I should be intervening? Should be helping those sailed vessels that seek to tame me? They are not my children, they are not my love.”

“The mortal races are joy to gods.”

“I have my joy in you. What more do I need?”

How could one tactfully say that could not Love be claimed when there was no heart to house it? “I...Your father, Universe, sought the hand of your mother as it is written and carved, illuminated and painted in window, story and word. It was only an end to loneliness at first, not love, and she denied the Nothing at her door. It wasn’t until He took Form, agreed to it and to learn how to have feelings, that love could form.”

“So you are saying that I am wild and unlearned, and need taming? What is so great about so many feelings that every god should bow to such shackles? Should be less then they were then when they started?”

“It is hard to describe...it is something you just know, the value of them, when first your heart aches or is broken, “as mine is breaking now.

Universe turned, looking at the dragon in the eyes. It didn’t seem right, to give up so much, for paltry extra thoughts and concerns that only theoretically enhanced ones experience of existence. It had been witness to Gaia’s weeping, when the first Ageless were laid into tombs, broken from battle...battle and fighting brought on by feelings. By instinct and self-importance. Tien Lung himself was defining Universe by these very terms, no doubt thought it callous or haughty. What was haughty? Was it haughty to desire to remain what you were, outside of instinct or sentiment? To simply be, and enjoy being? “I do not understand, but I am afraid. To understand is to choose your path, and there is no going back from that. You ask so much. You are not giving me a choice.”

“How could that be? I would not be so unfair.”

“Is it not the nature of the thing? You were made with these things instilled in you; you never have been as I am now. You ask, no….argue and essentially demand that I change to your existence. You would not be satisfied if I said no forever.”

“..It is true.”

“If I say yes, I will be changed, Shaiming. I will know everything you know, bad and good….but if I do not like it, there is no going back. There is no way to unlearn what is learned…to be raw and unformed again. Do you understand how that must seem to me? “

”I am still afraid.” Lucius concluded, looking down at coils sewn through his hands. Hands larger and more masculine then ever they had been in those memories. He was bound, now more then ever, and more definitively. “I am now he, not it. I have wants, have madness, have regret. I am bound, Shaiming....I agreed to it then, but never could I have predicted this outcome. I don’t think anyone did. “

But the Crown? At once Lucius’ heart ached with the thoughts of Creation. But Destruction, he was still raw or close to it as any yet remained. Hardly did that god ever answer to the name Harmodius, but instead existed in the minds of all that existed as a malignant cancer. Were they all making him so? Did not so many seek euthanasia as a release? Or Forest fires, leaving in the wake of heat and death a new promise and wealth of nutrients for new growth? Destruction was not evil, or should not be, any more then he himself should be wholly locked into a male form, bipedal or otherwise. Was Destruction becoming more bound to the whims and belief of mortals and immortal alike as he spent himself on them?

The potential answers were just as disturbing as the memories racking his mind. The knots that tied in his logic and stomach made him wish briefly for Gaia’s arm and counsel, but that feeling itself made it worse. It only opened another whole library of memories and feelings, and the words that blossomed on his lips. Help me Mother; help me to help my Father.

But how much did she herself remember? Would she care anymore? She had not been re-titled Empress any more then he Prince, nor had that waif that left his chamber seemed steeled in wisdom or purpose enough to face a council on such matters. Could he really ask her for help and opinion? Could he ask Tien Lung?

Can I ask anyone? Who would help me ? Already at least two seek for balancing at least, but will they make it in time if nothing is done to support the Crown himself? To pillar what is so quickly changing and falling apart into itself? Destruction must be coming apart....all that Exists only worsens in condition, and he should have slowed the decay or stopped by now. Something is wrong.

What can I do?

((*raises hand* I would like to know how much Tian Yue's Minor Aura is capable of protecting now - when he morphed, you had said that the amount he could protect would grow (and also that a power bonus for finishing the Remember the Stars quest would be fine), but a specific amount for his current power level would be great, since according to previous info he should be working up to protecting city/national park size areas of land. >3 I'd love to know when I can hit that, or if I can decide to level it up with my own pacing, need your approval for each increase, or what. ^^

Feel free to pace it as you like within that growth to the city/national park size areas of land+ sprinkles on top for quest. I trust you not to 'god mod' rofl

Sosiqui
also related to that but not ever asked: would Tian Yue laying protection over a particular place be something that would affect everyone? Like if he decided to maintain protection over the area around the Pantheon, would it be appropriate to tell all players because it would make a game-wide shift in how that setting should be written, or am I overestimating how influential that power's effects can be? @3@))

Yes, it affects the game setting if used in a zone where other players interact and make use of. Yes, if you do so, you should let people know, primarily me so I can note it on the front page too. Notes about the Pantheon area, as the exampl eto illustrate: damage done stays as is, though it woudl have the opportunity to heal. Around the pantheon, the earth would remain split and lava flowing......just it woudl allow the laval floes to slow and finally cool instead of perpetual tumult. Plants could start to regrow once that happened.
Or inthe Case of Koiso, the water levels would start dropping as the feed of the rivers would start to and then become normal (though unless the source of the river itself was in his sphere, some area above Koiso may become a flood plane .....)

Answering #1 in thread for all to read, since it affects all:

Sosiqui

1 - The one posted in the thread: what does it feel like for other gods to be within Tian Yue's shield? Comfy? Not comfy? Intrusive? Something else? XD Would it be considered polite god-etiquette to put the shield up INCLUDING the Pantheon?

Gods are aware when they enter a region that is protected by Tian Yue. It doesn't feel icky, so to speak. They simply feel restrained, like wearing zentai of their powers. They can still use their powers, it's just a lot harder and more effort intensive, like actual spell casting instead of second nature. And area effects of them just being within a region are dampened. For example, Gaia would make a whole area lush to be in it. Within the shield zone, it would be more of a mononoke hime-esque stuff growing crazy and lush where she steps only, just from passing.

as for God Etiquette, the shield used to be between the god-realm and the mortal-realm, so specific dwellings weren't in the shield, the mortal realms were. So the only way anyone felt more restrained was by walking in the mortal realms themselves (which often involved taking on a more binding form as well anyway). Hence avatars and aoide and servants....make them feel restrained instead of yourself.

The celestial goings on was done by Lucius, Shaiming represented and relayed imperial orders and needs (such as planets to be made or destroyed to provide favor to other gods/goddesses by givig place for new worshippers, ordering stars into constellations, creating comets for omens, and so on). Tien Lung could create no celestial bodies himself, nor move them or order them, but his posistion as consort allowed him to be very politically advantageous in seeing that the wishes of the court be achieved with the fickle and primal Universe. Hence he was titled "starscale consort"....he was the only one who could consistently or reliably move the universe to whims outside its own
