After flipping through some of the recent threads, I felt that there was a topic that needed some immediate attention,
. . . . Thats right! Eye protection!
Now most of us have the sense to protect ourselves while we deal with projectile weapons, but I know that not everyone thinks its as serious as we make it out to be.
So I've decided to make this thread to raise the awarness of airsoft related eye injuries.
In this article http://www.kare11.com/news/ts_article.aspx?storyid=249284 , the doctor interviewed told reporters that the victim will now be a lifetime risk of glaucoma, and is at a risk of developing a cateract.
He even goes on to say that he had a patient who lost use of their entire eye.
That being said, I'd like to bring up a particular issue.
Safety Glasses vs Ballistics approved goggles.
This one is pretty simple, and MOST airsoft groups don't even give you the choice here
But I thought it would be a good idea to talk about the difference.
While allot of Saftey Glasses are more than enough to protect your eyes from the sting of an airsoft round, they do not offer the full-eyed protection of goggles.
Goggles offer a level of protection that glasses cannot, by protecting the whole eye socket, making it next to impossible for an airsoft round to sneak past the seal around your eyes.
Like said before, most airsoft groups do not give you choice, and require goggles with full eye socket protection to play on their fields.
