The scent of deer was strong in the air as Einar Carr approached. He moved swiftly but cautiously across the hills. Having come a long way, he was curious as to who lived in the area. The stag stopped for a moment, skidding to a halt. Ears perking up, they swiveled back and forth as he listened, constantly alert to the world around him.
He began running again; powerful legs carrying him swiftly across the ground until the scent of deer was everywhere. It was here that he stopped, just a little uncertain. Should an outrider were to find him he doubted the reception would be very good. But he all he wanted was a quick look.
Chest heaving from his run; his muscles rippling beneath his brown and red coat, Einar waited to get his breath back and also considered his next step.

Whether it was fortunate or unfortuante for Einar Carr only time would tell; but the first deer that happened to see the striking red stag was not in fact an outrider, but a hot-headed young corps, fresh into training and eager to prove himself. But, being a corps does not usually present one with the oppertunity to prove oneself, and it was as such that Cearuil had been given one of the duller areas to patrol, a small stretch of land that not much ever happened on. He was not happy about that.
He knew that since he was just a corps member, they would never give him the full territory patrol the outriders got, but still. This was just so...so...boring! There was absolutely nothing interesting about this! Cearuil snorted angrily, inhaling sharly in annoyance. And that's when he stopped, raising his head and scenting the air again. There was someone else here. Looking around, it took him only a moment to spot a red pelted stag a little ways away from him. He did not think that the stag was an outrider. For one, Cearuil didn't recognize him at all, and his body language was also wrong. There was no 'proud defender' look about this stag. He was cautious, wary almost. Spying a potential chance for glory, Cearuil galloped towards the stag, stopping a little ways away from him.
"Who are you?" He asked in a voice that was not welcoming, nor curious, but outright challenging. Of course, Cearuil spoke most things as if they were a challenge, and one look at his naturally defiant stance could probably tell anyone that.

The rogue stag was inspecting some tracks left upon the soft earth when Cearuil turned up. Einar was on edge, but he never noticed the younger dear until a demand had been barked out. The wind hadn’t been in his favor, and annoyance bloomed in his chest for being caught out. Head jerking up, his body swiveled around as he came to face the one who would challenge his right to step upon their lands. But there was no powerful outrider for an opponent, just a young, hot-headed fool.
“None of your business who I am softfoot. Go away.” Einar barked angrily, giving a snort. He turned his head away from Cearuil, dismissing the other completely.

Cearuil's body froze at the insult, a wave of fury rushing over him. What had that stag just called him? Softfoot? And go away? What, as if he was just some small calf intruding on the important matters of some stag? His brow furrowed and his furious stare looked the stag up and down once again. He couldn't deny, the stag looked strong, obviously a rogue had to be, or else he would be dead. But what kind of idiot would come prancing into herd territory, and then refuse to leave? No, it wasn't that that had most annoyed him. It was they way the red stag had treated him like a calf. Cearuil was certainly not a calf! Well he'd show that stupid rogue, he couldn't just be dismissed like that!
Angrily, he moved himself again so that he was once again in the stag's line of sight. "Oh I assure you, rogue, it is very much my business. In case you're too stupid to notice, you're on herd land. So it should be you that's getting lost." His tone was acid, as threatening as he could make it. The possibility that it might be a stupid idea to be insulting a stag who was a lot bigger, and many years more experienced that him hadn't really occured to him. He wasn't exactly one to think through anything he did, he just kind of went by instinct. Unfortunately, his instinct didn't seem to be all that great.

As far as Einar Carr was concerned, the younger deer no longer existed, so when suddenly that annoying voice intruded on his thoughts once more, he was not happy. He snorted, ears flickering backwards as he focused his gaze on Cearuil. Breaking Einer’s train of thought usually wasn’t a good thing to do, especially when he was considering the proximity of outriders and, most importantly, hinds.
“Indeed I have noticed. That is why I am here. I am brazenly walking onto your lands because I wish to.” His voice was deceptively calm, but his body language had changed. The muscles in his shoulders had bunched, and his head had been lifted high, displaying his large antlers as clearly as possible.
Einar was making a point to look down at Cearuil. “Softfoot, I am going to keep walking further into these herd lands now. Step out of my way; I would prefer not to have to stamp you into the dust. It would be a waste of this rogues precious time.”

Whatever answer he had been expecting, that certainly wasn't it, and for a moment Cearuil could only stare at this impudent rogue. He hadn't thought that the stag would be this pushy. Most of the time he had heard rogues were fairly skittish beings, and few dared venture so boldly onto herd territory as this one was doing. The buck could not see any source of motivation the stag might have, especially prancing in here with that superior attitude of his.
The next insult had Cearuil quickly recovering his tongue however, for no matter the motives of this stag, the fact remained that he not only had insulted him, but also threatened to march straight through him to the herdlands. Cearuil had noticed the red stag's antlers, which were a lot bigger and more developed that his own, however he could not simply allow himself to back down. He would never be able to live it down if he did. The thought briefly crossed his mind that he could do as the stag said, and then run back to the herd and summon some other outriders to deal with the rogue. But what kind of reflection would that be on him? Probably a smart one actually, but Cearuil never thought much beyond his own sense of pride. And backing out now would certainly shatter any good reputation he hoped to gain.
In response to the red stag's advance, Cearuil's stance widened, and his ears pinned back to his skull as he glared at the other through narrowed eyes. He knew how to fight, he had been training since he was young, and though he was young, he did know a thing or two about battle. And he knew right away that if he were to fight this stag, he would have to be more strategic. Brute strength would never prevail against one so much bigger than himself.
"If it's such a waste of your time, wouldn't it be all that much easier just to turn around and walk back to where you came from?" He didn't actually believe that would work, but it never hurt to try right? "Because you know, I'd hate to have to send you back with that nice red pelt all beat up and scarred." He sneered back.

So it had come down to this? A fight with a corps member, his antlers pathetic in comparison to Einar’s own and his immaturity ridiculously obvious. It was almost an insult. The stag snorted. Being a rogue was such an annoyance sometimes. Being challenged to the right to be upon a land, and having little to no hinds available to breed with. But then, Einar enjoyed the freedom and lack of ties.
The red furred stag stamped a cloven-hoof down into the dusty group and then threw his had back in challenge. “I’m glad that you think my pelt is nice, softfoot. I’ve always been rather proud of it, and it makes my ego grow to know that you also admire it.” He mocked the younger male. By Cearuil’s stance, Einar realized the other did know a bit of how to fight. The hot-headed little guy had apparently been listening to his lessons. Still, there was nothing like real experience to make a good fighter.
Muscles bunched across his body as he bent his head, thick neck ready to take on the others attack. “Come softfoot, show me what you know and if you impress me I’ll even let you know my name.” He gave a dry chuckle. “And I might even leave these lands you are so ardently defending.” He braced himself, all humor suddenly gone and his blood rushing with the heat of the fight that he knew was to come.

((Never done a deer fight before either, though I think it may be easier if we just randomize numbers for their stats, since they don't have dice with all the same stats numbers as our deer))
So they would fight now would they? Honestly, he had expected this, what with his hot temper, combined with this rogue's insistence...it was inevitable. Cearuil felt a rush of adrenaline course through him as he readied himself. Yes, this was the moment, he would finally prove himself to the herd. Strangely enough, he felt no fear, only anticipation. He shook himself once to loosen his muscles out as he faced his opponent.
He glared furiously again. "Yeah, well then you'd better enjoy it while you can, because it's not gonna be that way for long. And there's no way you'll get past me onto this land. Just wait!"
In response to the red stag's movements, Cearuil lowered his own head, shaking his antlers. The other stag's might be bigger, but if could hit him the right way...then there was still a possibility. Not ever known for being patient, Cearuil rushed in, aiming on taking the rogue on with everything he had. Body braced for impact, he galloped towards the rogue, hitting him with all he could muster.

Even though he was prepared for the attack, Einar was surprised by the strength of his opponents attack. They clashed together, antlers locking. The larger stag found himself loosing his grip on the earth, cloven-hooves skidding backwards. It seemed he had severely underestimated Cearuil’s strength. He had been caught off guard in that first attack, and now he hoped he could gather the momentum to throw the younger deer back. With a bellow, the red furred stag bunched the muscles in his legs and pushed forward, twisting his antlers upwards.

His first strike had been good, and Cearuil could feel the red stag stumble backwards a bit. He was glad, but also realized that may be more due to the rogue having underestimated his strength as well. Still, now they both knew, and Cearuil braced himself. Unprepared for the strength of his opponent, the dark corps lost his hold as the larger stag twisted away from him, breaking the lock on their antlers.
Muscles trembling, the corps readied himself for another go. This time he was a little more cautious, as his oponent now knew what he could do. He have to make his next attack a little different. But he couldn't think for long, or else the rogue would have him. Perhaps he could wear him out a little first. Preparing himself for the second attack, he went again, antlers lowered.

Einar succeeded in driving Cearuil back and breaking the lock the antlers had been in. But there was no time for triumph because the corps was soon coming in for another attack, this time steadier and with more thought. The corps was certainly tenacious one. The larger stag could see it in his eyes. There would be no stopping or giving up, and certainly no chance of him being intimidated.
With a clash their antlers met again. Einar held, but he could feel the strain in his shoulders and neck. This youngster was throwing his all into this. Maybe the rogue would have been impressed under different circumstances. Hooves scrapping against the earth he got a good footing and pressed forward, trying to over-power the other deer.

A small grunt escaped the dark buck's muzzle as he strained forward, exerting himself to try and overtake the rogue. He was pleased to know that his efforts were making an impact, he could feel that the red stag was really having to put effort into keeping himself from being pushed back. But, that was also a bad thing, for the red stag was no pushover, and Cearuil could feel the pressure on his muscles as he forced them on. They seemed to be fairly evenly matched, for now anyways. But Cearuil knew he would have to give it absolutely everything he had and then some if he hoped to win.
The red stag was now pressing forward again, and the buck knew he wouldn't be able to hold up with the sheer power. Gritting his teeth, he swept his antlers to the side, breaking the lock. Perhaps, with his smaller size his speed could succeed in surprising the larger stag, who was larger, but probably a little slower. Hopefully anyways, as that was what the buck was leaning on. Dodging quickly to the side, he tried coming in at an angle, hoping that might have some effect.

Einar threw his all into pushing Cearuil down, but he hadn’t counted on the younger deer falling back and breaking their hold. He grunted as their antlers unlocked and he was momentarily off balance. Then Cearuil was coming from a little to the side and Einar was forced to turn awkwardly to meet him, his mind now turned to defense rather than attack. So, the little softfoot had a few tricks under his sleeve.
The rogue stag was annoyed, he was a veteran of battle and here he was, loosing ground to a youngster who could not have seen a real fight in his life. Teeth gritted he turned his body, bunched his muscles and then rose onto his hind legs, antlers angled down. He had his weight behind him as he bore down upon Cearuil. Hopefully the corps wouldn't be too quick.

He noticed the rogue turning at an angle that surely must have been awkward, and filled with a new rush of adrenaline, he pushed into it. He was quite sure that the red stag had assumed him only a hothead with no real training. Of course, that was where he had the advantage, in that he had not underestimated the larger stag. Also, it appeared that the long distance the stag had had to cover was taking it's toll, whereas, Cearuil, fresh and rested still had energy. Once again, he was glad that he wasn't a rogue. What an exhasting life it must be to be constantly running.
But he mustn't lose focus, especially now when it was so close. One last, and it should be close to over. Both herla were tiring, and gradually their movements slowed and lost strength. So he had to make it count. The red stag came at him, and Cearuil rose to meet him, thrusting with one last shove of his antlers, hoping that Herne would give him the strength to win this.

Ooc: No matter what I get, he’s lost. xD
Ic:
The rogue hadn’t quite realized how tired he was until his body came down, antlers locking once more with Cearuil’s. He didn’t have enough strength in his attack to make a difference in the tide of battle and he felt himself failing as his hooves touched the ground. The corps he was fighting strained against him with everything he had and in that instant Einar realized he had lost. Impossible… but true.

Einar struggled and then managed to disengage their antlers with one quick twist, falling back to a safer distance, breath dragging through laboring lungs. “Hah.” He shook his head and laughed. “You have impressed me, softfoot. I will leave… but I’ll be back, and I hope to fight you again.” The stag lifted his head higher. “I am Einar Carr, the warrior from the swamp.”
It wasn’t likely that Cearuil would care much for the name and Einar prepared to take his leave, before he could be driven off. His pride wouldn't aloow him ro be run of like some common swine.
