To say I was ever really interested in Steel Jeeg would be a lie. I have always wanted to read the Mazinger mangas though. They say Go Nagai is making another Mazinger series this year though. Featuring all the Mazingers (including Grendizer). I know how important sources are to the internet so here you go. http://altjapan.typepad.com/my_weblog/2007/07/mazin-go.html

I was never a fan of the series, but I've always loved Jeeg's design. I'm surprised that with New Steel Jeeg last year, it hasn't got a Revoltech - it lends itself perfectly to the concept.
I know you don't want to hear this, but I'm really hoping Grendizer's role is expanded a bit, or that it at least gets an upgrade. The same, however, goes for Great Mazinger; it always seemed like it could be awesome, but Kouji's Mazinger always stole the spotlight.
Not to mention Great Mazinkaiser and Grendkaiser have a nice ring to them~

You see, I never liked the Jeeg's look or color scheme, but I guess that's just me.
It makes sense to me that Kouji gets the spotlight since he is the main character. I doubt there will be another anything-kaiser since Kaiser is the German word for Emperor, and you really can't have multiple kings. I am sure there will be some kind of upgrade for the two though. Its nice that they are bringing some Super robots into the Generation of real-types that I am seeing for my generation. It saddens me that most teenagers my age only know Gundam Wing and believe its the first one as well. I wanted to cry when a classmate of mine said that....

Nice, a thread on Go Nagai creations. Nie pictures you got there. Razz B I was never a fan of the series, but I've always loved Jeeg's design. Not to mention Great Mazinkaiser and Grendkaiser have a nice ring to them~ I agree that Great Mazinger and Grendizer should get an upgrade, though I don't care much if Grendizer doesn't get one because it's still looks good to me but Great really needs an upgrade. I'm more of a Getter fan though...Anybody knows what's the G in Getter G means?

I was joking about Grendkaiser/Great Mazinkaiser as names. >> And while I know that Kouji is the main character, it doesn't mean that the spotlight can't be shared. Unfortunately, one of my friends doesn't even want to watch Gundam due to having seen Wing first. He made it to disc two of Zeta and called it quits. Such a shame... Raynear I agree that Great Mazinger and Grendizer should get an upgrade, though I don't care much if Grendizer doesn't get one because it's still looks good to me but Great really needs an upgrade. I'm more of a Getter fan though...Anybody knows what's the G in Getter G means? I'm a much, much bigger Getter fan, also; I only listen Mazinger first due to the topic's title (a double reference; both the catchphrase of Mazinger, plus it even has Uncle Go's name in it~). I assume the G's origins are the same as "Getter Rays'"; Go just thought it sounded good.

Thats a good question about the G. My attention as far as Getters go is Shin, Black and Dragon though.

I assume the G's origins are the same as "Getter Rays'"; Go just thought it sounded good. Yeah, I guess it's good to start with Mazinger as a sign of respect. That guy is the first piloted mecha Mr Go created after all. I'm not sure 'Getter Rays' would be suitable, it's kinda like repeating the name again. Getter Robo Getter Rays sounds kinda funny to me. Though when you mention our beloved uncle Go name in the Mazin-Go phrase, it came to me that the G might be actually his name. So it might be 'Getter Robo Go'. Joke on the meaning of G I found in dra-mata http://www.dra-mata.com/manga/4koma/old/impact24.jpgKizer_kun Thats a good question about the G. My attention as far as Getters go is Shin, Black and Dragon though. They're my favorites too and recently the New Getter have also caught my attention (I like the change they do with Benkei) . I'm hoping for a 'New Shin Getter'.

I was just using an example of Uncle Go creating words. Mazinger, Jeeg, Getter.. no meaning, just the way he seems to like it. The "G" was likely just him imagining that it sounded good~ Also, there is a Getter Robo Go. The anime was just a flaming flop that even Go himself no longer talks about it, but the manga is regarded as a B+ at the very least. Interestingly enough, the Getter Robo Go manga was Shin Getter's debut in the Getter canon, and was based on the version used in SRW instead of the current Shin Getter (the designs, while thematically similar, are fairly different, and some of the weapon choices were switched, such as Shin Getter-1 using a scythe and Shin Getter-2 having a more anchor-like claw). (Also, "New Shin Getter" would be called "Shin Shin Getter," as "Shin" means both "New" and "Change" ("Change" is how it is used in the title)).

Getter Robo Go...reminds me of God Mazinger in the terms of flop. It wasn't really even a damn robot. It was a statue made of stone with a cockpit.

I forgot about Getter Robo Go, hell might as well forget about it. Neo fits better with it. Yep it would sound weird with the name 'Shin Shin Getter' sweatdrop though I'm still interested to see a newer version of Shin. God Mazinger....... that one really sucked. It even have the most boring op of mecha anime ever, at least Getter Robo G have better op compared to this one.

While I do love Getter 9001% more than Mazinger, I still think that Mazinger needs to take center stage for a while. Getter has five (six, if you count both versions of Shin, and seven if you count non-canons) variants, while there are only four Mazingers if you count Grendizer (in the canon, at least).
