The Glossary
A
A
- Alibryn - A supposedly neutral society of assassins on Irideth who believe their targets must die to maintain the world's balance.
Abyss, the - Formally known as the Infinite Layers of the Abyss, it is the chaotic evil aligned plane made of an unknown and neverending number of layers which is home to demons, including the tanar'ri. Each layer is ruled by a demon lord or prince (sometimes several layers will be ruled by one).
B
- Baatezu - aka Devils. The lawful evil fiends who come from the Nine Hells of Baator. The Baatezu are the epitome of oppressive tyrants seeking to bring the entire multiverse to heel under their own twisted rule. Wise bashers avoid making and/or signing any kind of baatezu contract as they are notorious for the 'fine print' of their deals and bargains, which almost always end up badly for the signee unless he's lucky enough to find a loophole. The baatezu are fierce enemies with the tanar'ri, ever fighting them in the ongoing Blood War of the Lower Planes, perhaps the only thing that keeps the fiends from uniting and turning the multiverse on its head. Types of Baatezu
Baator - Formally known as The Nine Hells of Baator, it is the lawful evil aligned outer plane which is home to the baatezu. As one might expect there are nine layers in Baator each with its own landscape and each ruled by an Archdevil.
Baseform - A changeling's preferred form to wear which requires almost no concentration to maintain, it is designed from an amalgamation of the DNA for a species that the changeling has absorbed. Each species the changeling has learned to shift into will have a different baseform, however each changeling has their own preference for what baseform they favor. I.E. most changelings will favor a human baseform, but some may instead be most comfortable in an animal or alternate baseform.
Blood War, The - The everlasting blood feud between the Baatezu and the Tanar'ri, said to be the ultimate battle of Order versus Chaos and perhaps the only thing that keeps the fiends of the lower planes from uniting against the celestials of the Upper Planes. No one knows when or how the Blood War started (though some speculate the 'loths are behind it), only that it always has been and, at the rate things are going, always will be.
C
- Caynir - The daimaul children of the elemental lord of earth. They are a canine-like people who are known for generally being steadfast and loyal, weathering even the fiercest storms.
Celestia - Formally known as The Seven Mounting Heavens of Celestia it is the prime outer plane where good-aligned outsiders dwell.
Celestial - A broad term for any denizen of the Upper Planes; an angel
Changeling (DnD) - The descendant of a doppleganger and some other race (generally human) who retains some of their parent's ability to shapeshift.
Changeling (Alternative Settings) - A race of beings whose cell structure is naturally mutable allowing them to shapeshift into other forms. Their trueself is a colorless, almost albino humanoid form, though with a definitive gender, and is said to be almost like a blank canvas. Changelings can shapeshift into any living thing that has DNA for them to absorb through touch. They can absorb the dna via skin contact with their hand and lips if they are concentrating via a process called "skimming".
D
- Daemon - See Yugoloth
Daimaul - In Irideth the name for all the races created by the elemental lords from Inga's spark and the fauna of the world.
Demon - See Tanar'ri
Demon Lord - A position of power in the Abyss. How much power exactly can vary from day to day, but in general a demon lord will rank just below a demon prince, and may by some definitions actually be a demon prince. What can be said for certain is that Demon Lords are much more powerful than your average denizen of the Abyss and have gained great power and established a position of preeminence among demonkind. Demon Lords usually rule over a layer of the infinite Abyss and some may even have a smattering of mortal worshipers.
Demon Prince - A position of power in the Abyss. How much power exactly can vary from day to day, but in general a Tanar'ri prince will rank about on level with or just above a Demon Lord, and may by some definitions actually be a demon lord. The generally accepted different between a demon lord and a demon prince is that a demon prince rules over a layer of the Abyss and has a definite following of mortal worshipers.
Devil - See Baatezu
Drainer - A changeling who absorbs more than just the dna required to shapeshift into a form and instead drains the very life force in order to extend their own life and allow them to shift more frequently.
Drider - An abomination mixed of drow and spider created by the goddess Lloth to punish drow who fail her tests
E
- Erinyes - One of the different types of devils from Baator, erinyes are thought to simply be the lawful counterpart to the succubus demon tempting mortals into sin. However they are also in some worlds and mythos manifestations of pure, furious vengeance.

Gehreleth - Fiends created by the baernaloth Apomps who was subsequently exiled along with its creations to Carceri, the prison plane, by the yugoloths. As such the 'leths hate the 'loths with a burning passion. Gehreleths are extremely horrid to behold, even as fiends go.

R
- Raukodae - A shadow-touched devil resulting from the interaction of shadow magic and the ritual magic used to turn a human into an erinyes. Such an occurrence is rare as these two types of magic generally don't interact very well. This is why raukodae are not known for being the most mentally stable of individuals. Raukodae appear as erinyes and usually have the ability to disguise themselves as human, however at times the unstable magic of their creation can cause them to lose their physical form and manifest as an inky, humanoid shaped shadow with burning eyes of red and a jagged void for a mouth.
S
- Sigil - Planar metropolis of the (DnD) multiverse, Sigil is called the City of Doors due to the fact that the entire city contains portals that extend to any imaginable place, space, and/or time. Sigil is ruled by the Lady of Pain. The local language is a slang version of the Common tongue called Planar Cant
Skimming - The process by which a changeling acquires a dna profile from a living being in order to be able to shift into that creature's form. Once a subject has been skimmed the changeling can shift into their form with exact precision for a period of 12-24 hours. After that they can take on a similar form becoming less exact as the skimmed dna 'decays' and is absorbed into their baseform dna.

Tanar'ri - aka Demons. Chaotic evil fiends from the Abyss. The tanar'ri are destruction personified and take great joy and pleasure in it. They despise law and rigidity favoring change and imagination of the worst kind. Tanar'ri have no hierarchy. Instead it is the strongest, smartest, and craftiest fiends who rule over their weaker brethren. The tanar'ri are fierce enemies of the baatezu (See Baatezu; Blood War). It is said that some days the tanar'ri despise the baatezu more than the celestials, and for the sake of the multiverse one hopes that to be true. Types of tanar'ri
Therianthrope - A broad term for any were-animal.
Tiefling - A planetouched humanoid descended from one of the fiendish races of the Lower Planes. All tieflings can trace their heritage back to a half-fiendish ancestor who could be as closely related as their parent or could be several generations removed.

The Lemarg themselves are assorted having been converted and assimilated into their new "family" (all Lemarg consider each other siblings and the Shadows their parents) from all walks of life by other Lemarg. Those who are not Lemarg are considered no more than beasts, fodder and souls to feed to the Shadows to expand their power and the reach of the Shadowgrid. Y
- Yugoloths - aka Daemons (not to be confused with demon which refers to the tanar'ri). The neutral evil fiends of the Lower Planes. The yugoloths, or simply the 'loths, are manipulative and deceptive master puppeteers. Some say that the 'loths pull the strings of the multiverse itself, others say that's crazy talk but when you consider some of the hushed whispers that float around about these fiends it might make one wonder. They are the essence of Evil embodying it in its purest form without the taints of Order or Chaos. However they are most known as mercenaries in the Blood War fighting for the highest bidder and switching sides as best suits their plans. One would think as treacherous as they are the 'loths would be out of a job, but despite the possibilities of deceit the baatezu and tanar'ri both will begrudgingly admit that it never hurts to have a 'loth on your side in the War. Types of Yugoloths.
Z
- Zu'ling - A tiefling descended from a humanoid and a baatezu; a devilkin.
