Sweeney Todd
The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Edited by: Robert L. Mack

I just picked this up today at Barnes and Nobels. And was wondering if anyone else has read it, I havent started reading it, but just as I was reading the forward at the beginning of the book, I realised it may not be the easiet read I have ever done, so I will need to find my dictionary.

It is very fasanating, here is a qoute that pulled me in: "It is particularyly striking, too, that although the original narratives and dramas relating to Sweeney Todd quite clearly describe him as a late eighteenth-century figure (the action in Lloyd's novel, again, is very explicitly set in August 1785), his status in the popular imagination is that of a conspicuously Victorian figure; the time has transformed Todd into the companion, in fact, of 'Jack the Ripper' (fl. 1888-91). (pg. xxi - xxii)

so like what do you get from that qoute, I was kind of like wooha... and thought about it deeply... also for thoose of you who have read this, what did you think?

Her first name in the movie is Nellie. No one knows what her name really was. (assuming she actually existed)

Wow! That's so cool!
I really want to read it but I don't know when, if ever, that I will have the opportunity.
Where was it that I found Mrs. Lovett's name for the broadway musical... Ah, well, it was something like Nellie, if not that.
Yeah, keep us updated on that book, eh? ^.^

The book is actually 'String of Pearls' and more about Johanna Oakley and Mark Ingestrie... Tobias is actually Mr. Todd's apperentice... and even though I am only on chapter four I find it very - very fasicnating. Mr. Todd's personality is much... much different and we have yet to meet Mrs. Lovett

They are a gift meant for Johanna Oakley from Mark if I am not mistaken, I have yet to get to them talking about the String of Pearls, but if i remember right that is what the original version of the story was called and Mr. Todd is not the main character Sting of Pearls is more like a love story between Johanna and Mark... It is the two year mark, and Mark promised Johanna that in 2 years from his departure that he would make contact with her and if none was made she is to pursume that he is dead.. and If my memory serves me correctly the string of pearls is a gift from him to be given to her...
This is what happens when you are reading half a dozen things at once xD hard to remember everything that youve read. I am only on Chapter 6 of the novel, but I still suggest this read.
Though Sweeney has a much more aggressive attuitude, and as for Tobias... well, he doesn't get along with MR. Todd all that well.
