Has anyone played this yet? I got it yesterday as I'd had it pre-ordered. It only truly came out today though.

I'm on the third boss, Bogimoray. I must say it's a complete and utter son of a b***h. Here's a review that I posted a comment on. Lost Odyssey - a first impression by Angry Robot.

I'm truly impressed with the game though. You can read my thoughts at the end of this guy's article.

Praise be to Sakaguchi!

Where are all you Final Fantasy fans!? Hironobu Sakaguchi is starting a new revelation here with Mistwalker. I am engrossed in Lost Odyssey and 90% of Final Fantasy fans should be automatically swearing their allegiance to his new studio and project. It's amazing! (There are a few disadvantages and flaws but what game DOESN'T have them?)

There's no real world map exploration "on foot" but you can control your vehicles!!!!!!!!

Proof! Look! There it is! I've been steering the Slantnose across the world map. Woohoo!

Mmhmm, the look...BEAUTIFUL.

This yells "Magitek Empire" from FFVI. It's the magic republic of Uhra - http://www.jeux-france.com/Webmasters/Images/40741320060920_165005_2_big.jpg

And take a gander at this lot...

It's THAT impressive, believe me. Graphically it's outstanding.

Wow. Very nice graphics. Makes me wish I had an Xbox.
PostPosted: Tue Mar 04, 2008 3:53 pm

Huh? This is for the X-box 360? It may look amazing and everything but since I don't have one of those consoles, there's no need for me to even talk about it. Too bad too cuz if it could be released on another console I'd think about getting it...
Bottom line, don't expect me to come around here often. sweatdrop

Save up for a 360 then! They're better than Sony's new PS3.
Who wants a console that's not backward compatible that requires you to install games in order to play them? That's why consoles were created in the first place - so that installations weren't necessary!

The Wii is all about the family and multiplayer games to be perfectly honest.
The Xbox 360 is the only next gen console out there with any decent RPGs on it. Lost Odyssey is a next gen game, and at the moment I can't see Sakaguchi going back to Sony. I'm sure he might end up developing games for the Wii eventually, but at a guess I doubt Lost Odyssey will shift over to the PS3...at least not while Sony are up poo creek without a paddle.

Might as well have not made the discussion...

Don't be so hard on yerself Mel. The discussion can be good.
It's just that I don't want to bother getting an x-box 360 anytime soon. I mean, am I gonna get a console for one game only? I don't like Halo or first person shooters so I don't see any powerful reasons for me to get it. As long as I have a decent RPG on a console I have, why bother? I know FFTA is more strategy than RPG but it's a mix really. And I'm waiting for the sequel to come out on DS so I can get that one.

I think the Wii is the best next gen console without next gen graphs. What are graphics, really? They're a miserable big pile of $hitcrets, that's what they are! Ha-ha! lol
Seriously now, any good gamer knows they just complement a game, they are not necessary. And the motion sensor controller sounds great. I actually want to get a Wii cuz of quite a few games, not just one. The virtual console is just another reason, I love classic CV games that came out on it. 3nodding
Beat that Microsoft! Ha-ha! rofl

I hope this thread gets a good discussion even if I'm not here to support it.

Uhh, I hate first person shooters as well Hypno. There are several RPGs out for the 360 and more to come (especially now that Miswalker is up and running).

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Two Worlds
FFXI (which I will play again when I can afford it)
Enchanted Arms
Lost Odyssey (and you can be sure there'll be more where it came from)
Blue Dragon
Eternal Sonata
Fable (which can be downloaded)
Fable 2 (it's going to be out here soon so it may already be out in the US)

Square Enix are developing one called Infinite Undiscovery too.

There will be a great many more coming out in the near future too. The Wii has......Twilight Princess and now Dragon Quest Swords. The rest is all cutesy multiplay stuff.

Of course, it's your choice in the end.
PostPosted: Fri Mar 07, 2008 10:51 am

I see... Well, it's not that I absolutely hate First Person Shooters, I actually liked Wolfenstein 3D & Doom (I even played Doom 2) but now it's like they lost all appeal to me. At least in the Wii, they seem cooler cuz you can aim for yourself and not with the lousy arrows or a stick. I HATE that! I was never good at aiming on Ocarina of Time cuz the stick was just lousy to aim with. I hope one day I can get Twilight Princess cuz I want to aim with my hands.

Oh and, thanks for that list. I am not interested in many of those titles myself but, at least I know there are some choices for the X-box 360.
The only ones I have read reviews of, are:

Elder Scrolls, Enchanted Arms, Fable & Eternal Sonata. Or at least, I think I have... mrgreen

What a gorgeous game! Thanks for posting the pics--and the link to the review! Gonna go read now...

Hypno - That's fair enough if there's not many titles you're interested in. Perhaps when Sakaguchi gets more underway with Mistwalker then eh?
I think his intention is to knock Square Enix for six regarding Final Fantasy. They warped the series into something that fans didn't like as much as the older games, and that's why he quit. I'd heard that with Mistwalker he wants to bring back what people loved most about RPGs, especially Final Fantasy.
Granted, Lost Odyssey doesn't really have an overworld map unless you're travelling in a vehicle, but this is only the FIRST game he's made that's similar to Final Fantasy with Mistwalker. Blue Dragon is more of a kiddy RPG, whereas Lost Odyssey is definitely an RPG veteran's game.

I'm hoping Lost Odyssey is going to be the new Final Fantasy series to be honest. Sakaguchi knows what his fans love in RPGs.

Jasta - Save save save! It truly is an amazing RPG. There are a few creases that Sakaguchi really needs to iron out, but then again the first Final Fantasy game wasn't perfect. Therefore, the first in a new series isn't going to be perfect. He's done most of it right though, and has definitely won my affections with this game.

This, my friends, is a Kelolon. When I searched for this picture, I saw that something of the same name was used in Blue Dragon (also made by Miswalker). Perhaps they'll become the Miswalker/Lost Odyssey image of Moogles? I hope there'll be a decent replacement for Chocobos.

The Magic Republic of Uhra is Miswalker's answer to FFVI's Magitek Empire as mentioned before. As soon as I saw the place, I thought "Magitek Empire". You get to wander around the city a little bit too. There's more to explore in the larger cities than in most RPGs. It doesn't compare with how much you encounter of Esthar in FFVIII though.

With regards to music, you can tell it comes from Nobuo Uematsu for the most part. There are a few scores that made me think "that's Nobuo?" But you really can tell otherwise.

Thanx Mel! Perhaps when Sakaguchi gets more underway like you said, yes.
If you want, I could let you know as soon as I see more information about those games like, Blue Dragon or this one (Lost Odyssey). I think I saw some kind of preview but I can't be sure... rolleyes

One thing though, I wonder why some Japanese words sort of sound like Spanish. I keep hearing a lot of jokes about how to say certain things in Japanese but they're mostly words in Spanish that sound Japanese-like. Example?
Here's one: How do you say Handkerchief in Japanese?
Answer: "Sakamokito"
If you speak Spanish, you should totally get this joke, he-he.
I also hope I'm not offending anyone in the process though... sweatdrop
PostPosted: Tue Mar 11, 2008 9:50 am

Err, I don't know Spanish but I know how it sounds (heard it spoken). I also use a few Spanish words in my writing - names for places mostly.

I think Sakaguchi was experimenting with this Lost Odyssey to see what he could get away with and to test what his fans really thought of the differences between the new and older Final Fantasy games. I've heard that IX was the last one he had anything to do with. If that's the case, it's no wonder the newer ones don't live up to IX and those before it.

I believe he's doing what he did when he first started Final Fantasy - with a new franchise.

With the Kelolons though, I'm actually now thinking they're more like the Cactuars than Moogles. They have a similar kind of sounding voice and they communicate like the cactuars do as well.

It sounds like you might be onto something there Mel. Out of the few recent FF games, I think the only one that has been almost as good as FFIX has been FFXII; unless I'm mistaken.
I've seen a video of that last one and the whole turn based combat is gone. It seems now you fight in real time. Even though I think it's great, it makes me wonder if I'll enjoy playing it or not so much (Liike it happened for me on FFX). rolleyes

I hope someday I'll be able to get an x-box 360 & this LO game. Maybe by the time the next x-box comes out, who knows... mrgreen
PostPosted: Fri Mar 14, 2008 9:48 am

Lost Odyssey is 100% turn-based like all of the old FFs.

My ex reckons that when Square Enix finally end up making such a mess of the franchise - which the inevitably will, he'll end up buying it back. I'm not too sure, but it sounds like something Sakaguchi would do.
