Hello, everyone! While I wait for my first doll to arrive, I thought I'd start asking around about what kind of clothing people might like to see for dolls. I do a lot of Artist Alley tables at conventions, and I'm justifying FINALLY caving and buying a doll by making and selling different clothing and accessories. I've got a few ideas, but I'm also curious about ideas others have that, for some reason or another, they can't or don't want to do themselves. Thanks! ^_^

Nice clothing for Luts boys.
And I mean suits and dress shirts. Things that you'd see in an Italian fashion magazine, too.
I'm so tired of goth/punk that I could scream.

It's tricky to say. Any more, there's such a wide variety of people with a huge variety of tastes that just about any clothing style will probably be named. However, I can give some suggestions for things that tend to do well at conventions. ^^
1) Individual pieces. Shirts, pants, skirts, hats, etc. tend to do very well at conventions. The nice thing about these sorts of things is that you can do anything from uber-goth to everyday-sort of clothing.
2) Kimonos and yukatas. For some reason, people are terrified to try making these things, but everyone(or so it seems) wants at least one for their doll.
3) Jewelry. Really nice, in-scale doll jewelry is always in demand.
Those are just a few things I can think of off the top of my head! I'm sure other people will have much better suggestions, but it's a start!^-^

Oh, excellent, I love doing kimono/yukata and was planning to muck around with some various jewelry pieces, so I'm glad to hear there's interest in those kind of things.
And since I was thinking about nice shirts and jackets, too, I'll give those a shot.
I'm not really into goth or punk fashions myself, so I don't know if I could effectively make something like that, but it seems like every site I've been on to browse clothing (with pretty much zero intention of buying, unless I finally find shoes I like) has a lot of focus on those styles.
Is there any significant difference in size between Luts and other SD dolls? My roommate has an SD to model the larger sizes (I think it's an AoD sculpt, but I'm not sure), so I do have a way to gauge those sizes. (The one I ordered is an MSD size, so I'll also have that size to work from.)

A thought I had on jewelry, that again, I figured I'd posit here... Let's say I have two different resources for jewelry supply (because I do).
There's the JoAnn's/Michael's/Hobby Lobby/other craft store route, for inexpensive findings made of pot metal and plastic/glass components, for inexpensive pieces. But I also have a purchaser's account with a fine jewelry wholesale company (one that supplies huge numbers of expensive fancy jewelry stores), with fine metals and semiprecious/precious stones.
As doll owners, what would you prefer? Something made using more inexpensive, base-metal and fake materials, that still looks nice and is affordable, or something more expensive, but made with real silver, crystal, gemstone, etc?

When it comes to purchasing jewelry, I prefer the more expensive, real gems, silver, etc. Most people have access to the craft store and can make inexpensive jewelry themselves--I've done it myself, numerous times ^^;. However, if they are going to be plunking money down for someone to make it, they prefer a higher quality.

I think for now, I'm going to see if my roommate minds if I borrow her idea to make a pattern book of all the stuff I work out (since I'm working through more things than I think I'd want to regularly produce), in addition to selling a few things like pajamas, cloaks, and a bit of jewelry (that of course wouldn't be in the book) from existing supplies, until I finally decide it's time to do another order or two.
BUT, as always, is that something people would want? Do you prefer making your own clothes, to get exactly the right colors, textures, fit, etc, or would you rather buy something premade or commission it?

For boys, if I can make it myself, I do. For girls, I don't make it myself much, so I like to buy it. I would though, love someone to make Yo-SD gender neutral jeans on a regular basis.
