So two days ago I bought four Copic markers to try out and I REALLY love them but I'm having problems with them.
See, I really like to do my preliminary sketch using pencil that way I can really build it up and then erase, fix things and yadda yadda all the things a pencil and eraser are good for... BUT Copic markers smear the graphite and gets all muddy looking. I'm not sure how to prevent this or if there even is a way to go prevent this.
Halp?

Will ink prevent pencil smearing? I also heard that a lot of inks smear with Copic, too, so I don't know.. haha

well there'd be no pencil to smear @_@ hmmm try not going so close to the edge and blend the copic to the edge so you wont smear the pencil..

Ink your drawings, but dont use crappy pens such as bic. Go out and buy artist pens (they run about $7 for 5 pens) the ink in those pens dont smear with the copics. Also, buy a kneaded eraser, they're perfect for erasing large areas and they dont mess up your drawings ;D

I have experimented with copics and you can have two problems~:
1. Your paper is messed up. Yep, it's something to overlook... but different brands take inks and markers differently. I tried so many that are labeled "good for inks and markers" but half them failed miserably sad In other words, someone is skilled might be able to use them but definitely not me xD
2. After you find good paper that handles copic markers nicely, getting the pens is easy. Just get some micron pens >_> The reason pens smear is because you need waterproof stuff. (also another safe bet is the ones MADE by copic >_> but either way). Oh and if you are wondering about price? lol they aren't as expensive as copics xD
The best stuff that works for me is my Heavyweight sketch book by proart. And my micron pens~ All you have to do is sketch, ink and erase. (wait to dry!)
Also I tried and using A4 copic marker pad by favini in my printer (lol I don't know what it is) and then draw over the lines. In other words I created lines with my tablet ^_^
Remember! unless this is practice or something, scan or copy your stuff O_O it's worth it ^_^

Woo! So I bought one of those zig millennium pens (.25 ooo niiiice) and it works like a charm. I realized I already have some waterproof markers (faber castel india ink- very yummy) that would work but they're too big for really fine details so the zig pen is a god send.
Apeiron King of Light:
I haven't come across problems with the paper I'm using yet but thanks for your tips. wink

I've never had problems with paper. I just use normal copy paper which works fine for me. The only problem i have with copics is that they sometimes leak, one of my best drawings the ruined by a leaky copic gonk
