[wand wood] Why Wood?Throughout the ages, trees and wood have been associated with magic, power, nature, and majesty. Wandmakers have learned to harness the great power of the trees, and use them to make wands which amplify the user's power. Wood is known to conduct magic, and each kind of wood has a different way of doing so. Wood has a power to conduct magic that is unparalleled in any other material. To put it another way, a wand by any other wood would not...er... smell as sweet? The Celtic Tree CalendarSometimes, a person's wand can choose them because of the time of year they were born. Sound crazy? Ollivander, our famous wand-making Londoner, will tell you himself that much of the time the wands he makes choose witches or wizards whose birthday correspond with their wood.
