so im working on some crochet kits for people in the hospital. so far i have a book on how to crochet and yarn and hooks.

what eles would be useful in the kits? what kind of bag would you use?

Yarn needles might be useful to go with that . . . or some stich markers (you could make some with festive coloured paper clips, those are what I use!)

as for bags. . . you could either get gift bags from the dollar store, or maybe canvus bags (cause those are be used again and again!)

I think a canvas bag would be awesome, I need one of those so bad. Hmm, what else to include... maybe some small scissors? That sounds like a great crochet kit to me! What a great idea, I bet they will love them.

Also you can make a kit containing a pattern for and all the materials to make a bag to hold future projects.

I found my blunt-tipped sissors that I keep in my crochet kit at the dollar store.

I use safety pins for stitch markers and to attach tags with yarn information to my projects. I got a rather large assortment of those from the dollar store too. smile I'd prefer coiless pins but can't find them anywhere right now.
I also keep a pen and a small notebook in my kit to write stuff down.

yay all great ideas. one of the local craft stores is having a HUGE sale on canvas bags so im going to go pick up a few. maybe stencil paint them xd to make them look nice. i got an idea for stitch markers using polymer clay (if i find the link i will post it) since these are most likely going to the children's hospital (for the teens there) i will do bright fun colors.

you know this sounds like a good project for us. i know many of us cant afford to do much. but we could try. im trying to get my friends involved in this.

edit: ok here is something similar to the stitch markers i found made of clay http://www.flickr.com/photos/kymineko/2290922226/

well if the book has patterns on how to make amigurumi maybe you could include a couple of safety eyes in the kits...?

but I think it is really great that you are making kits for kids in hospitals.
I've always wanted to do stuff like that, but my parents won't let me.

EDIT:
I thought of something else!!
what about little 6 inch rulers for checking gauges?
I have one in with my crocheting stuff 3nodding

Those little rulers are a great idea. Rulers are very useful things to have. I know walmart has a case of boyle jumbo stitch markers for about 98 cents. Er, I think everyone has pretty much named everything!

1 pair of siscors
1 lg skein yarn or
2 smaler things of yarn

ok so i just got a call from the hospital to tell me that the kits are a hit! yay. they have mostly been giving them to teens and a few older children like i though they would. im going to start making toys to send to the younger ones.

so i feel warm and fuzzy inside... (even though i have no pants)
