There seem to be many flower designs in the world of origami and I would like to make a very large flower arrangement from them. I'd love some insight into this project from anyone who has "been there done that" and I would also love to find a sort of database for flower designs (meaning that sharing websites and flower designs would be greatly appreciated). Also, I have only seen one design for flower stems and it really won't work that well for this project. Stem designs and alternate ideas would greatly be welcomed.

Conversation points:
Have you made an origami flower arrangment? (if so, photos would be nice)
What flower designs have you made?
What flower designs do you think work best for a project like this?
What are some of the more difficult flower designs to make?
What are some of the most beautiful and pleasing designs to make?
What stem designs have you seen?
Which stem designs work best for what situations?
What alternative stem set ups (as in non origami) would work well for this project?
What vase/box designs do you like best?

Funny you mention that! I just finished making a hydrangea arrangement last weekend. ^^ My grandpa is a woodturner so I've ended up with a number of ikebana bowls but no flowers to put them in.

Here's a picture:

Some might call it cheating because it's not paper, but I just used some floral wire and floral tape I got from Hobby Lobby for the stems, plus a little hot glue to attach everything to the wires. The flowers were folded separately and then hot-glued onto a big cone I had made out of printer paper. xD It worked out surprisingly well.

I should probably do a quick tutorial on how to make those hydrangea florets...

Yes, please do a tutorial on how to make those hydrangea florets...as I will certainly make use of it!

I found this website called "oribana" that linked me back to a website called "oriland" where they have up some interesting little peices.

http://www.oriland.com/treasury/treasury.asp?gallery=Oribana

From there the three photos link to other photos along the same lines. I really want to learn how to make a good deal of the flowers and stems from those designs.

Oh wow. That's some amazing origami.

I've recently bought two books that have to do with flower origami - Origami Flowers by Hiromi Hayashi and Blooming Origami by Fumio Inoue. I've been meaning to put up instructions for some of the models in those books, but if you're really into flower origami it may be worth investing in some books.

I'm putting together that hydrangea tutorial right now. whee

Any flower designs that you are willing to share would be greatly appreciated. Currently book buyings out of the question thanks to work cutting my hours back quite a bit and saving up what I do get paid so that I can move.

I'll wind up trying that hydrangea sometime within the next couple of days (if not today).

I spent some time on this one last night ^-^ I thought it would look nice on my book shelf. And by the way, I got all the diagrams from the Oribana Charm CD from Oriland, I got to meet the two creators of Oriland and the diagrams and everything at a workshop and bought their CD biggrin (Yes, two people did everything, including the website eek ) Unfortunately I cannot give you the diagrams for what I folded here >.< Its against the rules, but the little flowers on the shorter stalk, thats the jasmine model which they do have in the Origami Studio on their website, its a very easy little thing biggrin
