I been trying to compose a unique song for a while now. I've tried a couple of different ethnic-sounding scales to give it a different sound, and to incorporate some distorted guitar into it. Whatever i try just doesn't work though.
-I've used several methods to get me started.
First i tried what just sounded best by my ear, making up riffs as i go and trying to make them 'work.'
-I put each note of the scale and picked them randomly, to try to make a chord progression from it. To which i played arpeggios and picked some patterns to use.
-I pedaled the E note and played riffs over that, but everything i do that works sounds so bland.
If anyone was curious, the scale i was using was the Hungarian Persian Gypsy scale - 1,b2,3,4,5,b6,7
Does anyone have any tips or advice to get me composing more, or in the right mood for composing?

just the E note? Need some key changes it always sounds pretty cool if you slide up to a key change or something in a solo biggrin
EDIT: i normally write a bunch of little verses and a bunsh of chord progressions and put them in 2 seperate folders... then when i think i have enough i go through the chords folder and pick out progressions i really like, then i go through my lyrics folder and see if there is anything that fits or almost fits. Then I take/add bits and pieces etc.
just make sure when u write lyrics don't go back and edit it until you have found chords, you might be losing something cool
